(no subject)

[The first clue Vash had was waking up and finding out he had been made Captain. That seemed odd. He hadn't been captain for more than a couple days before Ino put in the request when this cycle first began. It was confirmed when he checked Ino's room and she was not just in deep sleep but gone completely.

He finds the letter left for him and smiles. He really isn't sure what happens when people leave. Most seem to think they go home. He likes that idea and hopes it's true. Alright, his first responsibility as captain. Let people know.

Being captain sucks.

He'll find the crew of the Three Twins personally and speak to them one on one if they haven't already found out themselves. Then he should next tell... oh man. This was not going to be easy.]

Private to Hiro

Hiro. Are you there? It's Vash. I need to speak to you.

[Because he at least deserves to be told in person one on one. In fact everyone who who had a gift left behind will get a private message from Vash.]

Private to those getting gifts

Hello, this is Vash of the SS Three Twins. I need to speak with you please. [If Vash knows you it will likely be a little less formal.]

Open to all

[Vash wishes he knew all of Ino's friends. So he could let them all know one on one. With no one else he could think of and the ones with gifts having been notified Vash let's everyone else know.]

Hello Fleet. I'm sorry to say that Ino has been returned home. [It's nicer to say than vanished. True or not.] So I have been made captain of the SS Three Twins. She was a great Captain and I know she will be missed. I'm sorry everyone.

[Seemingly, he hadn't offended his new crewmate too badly, so he takes that as a win and doesn't think twice about the question. Maker knew he'd lost track of names in all the hustle and bustle of meeting new people in the fleet; he'd had to look some of them up before he met them again to remind himself.]

Yes! I'm from a world called Thedas, it likely means nothing to you unless you've been in one of these situations before, but there's a good handful of us on the fleet so it won't be the last time you hear of it, I'm sure.

Are...you from Earth? The majority of the people in the Fleet seem to come from several different versions of that planet.
arfvader: because they were cutaneous (why were the nerves attracted?)

[Ravi is - in fact - well-acquainted with Thedas, and it is taking every last bit of self-control to keep that under wraps.]

Oh, yeah, never heard of it, but that's totally cool. Probably haven't heard of a lot of places. Big universe and all that.

[Nailed it!]

I am, indeed, an Earthling! And with that comes all my Earthling knowledge about medicine! Not saying your particular brand of healing isn't good too, but no harm in teaming up, eh?

[Luckily, Ravi just sort of comes off as...odd to Anders. No harm in that.]

No harm at all. I'll admit, most of the tools in the lab have their uses, it's needles and scalpels and the like that bother me. But it shouldn't be a problem, I haven't come across a time I couldn't use my magic.

[Even with the dragon having used up all his mana, he'd been able to save Marian's life before she bled out with what he had left and from their healed her and the others as it replenished. No need to stick thread in someone's skin like some poor Maker-forsaken saarebas.]

Next time you come by the clinic, I'll be happy to show you some of the herbs I use for my potions and such. Until then, I do hope you manage to work some magic of your own on that protein paste. It's not the worst I've ever had, but it's a close second.
arfvader: because its subject matter is so vastus (anatomy is so hard)

Right, well I think it's for the best if we postpone what will obviously be a lively debate about modern medicine to another time.

[Ravi's starting to wonder how Anders is going to react to his actual job, but that is clearly for another day.]

Yeah, so I'm making no promises on this whole cooking situation. Probably best to keep feeding yourself for the next three weeks or so while I experiment a little.

[Anders nods his assent on that one. He's had plenty of debates in recent years, he's sort of appreciated the quiet being here has granted. There was little point in debating about this anyway.

Ravi's suggestion, however brings amusement to Anders' face.]

I appreciate your thoroughness on learning. I suppose I'll manage somehow over the next three weeks, but it'll be a close call, I'm sure.

[Despite what certain others might say, Anders did know how to take care of himself on occasion.]

If you happen to have any tips, I am absolutely not too proud to accept them!

I'm afraid not. My culinary skills include recipes I remember from what my mother used to make years ago and those born from desperation as neither my lover nor myself knew how to cook. I don't believe wither will help you with these pastes.

In that case, just try and keep your expectations low.

Until someone else works a miracle with this stuff, I don't think you'll have to worry too much.

Welcome to the Drift Fleet, Ravi. I think you'll find you won't have too much trouble settling in here. Whether that's a good thing or not, I couldn't tell you, but all the same.

Thanks, man! I'll try to stay out of your laboratory until I've gotten the kitchen mastered.
