[ Matt hates confetti, there's nothing worse for upsetting his senses than over stimulation. So he stands, waiting for the 'celebration' to pass. He'd only been in the last room (ship?) long enough to be moved along to the next, so now here he was, trying to get his bearing through a snowstorm of flying paper.

Once he does, at least a bit, he can focus on the refreshments. It's clearly party food, which seems safe enough, so he assembles his stick and moves forward. ]

I, uh, hello?

[ He clears his throat. ]

My name's Matt Murdock, and I think you all are expecting me.

[ Later, Matt sits in front of the monitor, dark red glasses covering his eyes. He's calm, but it's clear that he's holding back stronger emotions. ]

If anyone seeing this knows me, I need to know you're here. Suffice to say, I have a few questions.

[ Matt takes a breath. He may not be able to verify her story by heartbeat, but it reeks of being too weird to be a lie. ]

If that's true, do you have any ideas on how to leave this place? You have a leg up on all of us.

Sorry, no. I'm in the same position as everyone else here. Even if I did know, I wouldn't be surprised if they could selective remove knowledge as well as add it.

They can do that? Remove what we know? How?

Well, we have implants in our necks called augments. They can do all sorts of things.

[ Matt touches his. Given his personnel augment, his didn't upload a great deal of information at the onset. ]

Do we know everything the're capable of?

I think everyone gets a general knowledge dump for this place, so you'll know how to fly the shuttles and such. My augment is a personnel augment. I think I'm supposed to be like a ship's counselor—I have an office?

[ He nods slowly, he does know things he shouldn't. ]

I don't think I'll be flying many shuttles, but that does make two of us with offices.

Honestly, they're pretty well automated...

Do you have a personnel augment as well?

A legal one, yeah. Though I'm not sure what use that'll be to anyone here. Maybe just to maintain the illusion of paperwork.

Does it have to do with your life back home?

It does. I'm a lawyer. Are you not a counselor?

I'm a personal assistant, which is like being a counselor sometimes.

[ Smiles, having some experience with that. ]

And I'm generally a busybody. I guess the Fleet saw my potential.

Well, I don't know how useful I've been, but my best friend uses my office as his workshop, so it's not so bad.

A few... sort of. Nothing personal yet. Maybe I'll still get lucky.

It took over a month for my best friend to show up. Don't lose hope!

Listen, sometimes my friends are pessimists, so it's just my knee-jerk reaction to lay on the optimism.

Honestly? In person is always better. Though I don't know how easy that is here.
