[ Matt hates confetti, there's nothing worse for upsetting his senses than over stimulation. So he stands, waiting for the 'celebration' to pass. He'd only been in the last room (ship?) long enough to be moved along to the next, so now here he was, trying to get his bearing through a snowstorm of flying paper.

Once he does, at least a bit, he can focus on the refreshments. It's clearly party food, which seems safe enough, so he assembles his stick and moves forward. ]

I, uh, hello?

[ He clears his throat. ]

My name's Matt Murdock, and I think you all are expecting me.

[ Later, Matt sits in front of the monitor, dark red glasses covering his eyes. He's calm, but it's clear that he's holding back stronger emotions. ]

If anyone seeing this knows me, I need to know you're here. Suffice to say, I have a few questions.

[ Matt cocks his head at that, slightly. ]

Is that what happened with Winter Soldier? I heard something about that.

[notmutantbutmiracle]

[A flash of something on her face-- anger with a mix of sympathy. It's enough that Matt may have his answer just from that, but Wanda provides an actual, verbal response, too.]

So you heard about that? Seems that's being spread quickly.

[There's an edge to her voice as she says the words that suggests she disapproves of Winter's incident being shared so freely.]

But yes, that is one example. There have been others. Many others.

[ Matt can hear her voice tense. ]

You know him? The Soldier?

[notmutantbutmiracle]

Barnes.

[Her voice is curt, short. She doesn't mean to take it out on Matt, but it's clear that constantly referring to him as "The Winter Soldier," when there was so much more to the person behind that title, bugged her.]

His name is James Barnes. And yes, I know him.

[She sighs. The edge in her voice evaporates somewhat.]

We are from the same version of Earth. The same home. You get to know many people here in the Fleet -- People from all different types of worlds, but... the ones here that join you from home... They obviously become important to you. Even more so than before you arrive.

[ Matt nods, he can understand that. ]

I'm sorry. I didn't realize he was a friend.

You couldn't have.

[At the moment, that's her way of saying, "It's all right." She then adds:]

This place... it can be hard not to judge people you meet here based off what you know from home. It's a mixing pot with so many different kinds of individuals. You realize pretty quickly that this place has its own way of doing things, but you get used to it soon enough. Either that, or... well, it will become a very long stay here for you indeed.

Well, I'd like to think I'm adaptable, but I guess we'll see if that holds up when tested.

Oh, it will certainly be tested. Don't worry about that.

[She sounds a little more teasing now and less foreboding.]

It's all right. When you first arrive, a lot gets thrown at you, and it can be difficult to process everything.

Just know that, generally, the people you're here with want to help. Often times, whether you'd like them to or not. But... as crazy as this place can seem, there are those here who can help to keep you grounded.
