[Having been unconscious for two weeks, when Bigby woke up he had promptly decided to take a couple of days to sleep it off. It's only now, after a shower and some food that he bothers to take to the comm.

He's in the shuttle bay, where his massive bulk fits best.]

I was thinking about starting some kind of immortals evening. Get together. Bitch about how things have changed over the last couple of centuries. Commiserate with others who get the whole 'living for fucking ages' thing, if that's what floats your boat.

Just finding it weird, being surrounded by so many mortals. Fables keep themselves to themselves. No point making friends with mortals for us. Anyone interested?

Our community has a rule. The Mundanes can never know. I enforce that rule. It's just, easier. To not get involved than have to vanish and not return for decades, until you know everyone who knew you is dead.

So, are you a half fable then?

... technically, Totenkinder says I'm not a Fable anymore. I'm more. I'm an Archetype. Not entirely sure what it means in practical terms.

I have to admit, words like fable and archetype are more things we use to describe fictional stories back home than someone who is immortal.

Are you still immortal if you're an Archetype?

Yeah, they are those sorts of things. Archetypes are more powerful that Fables. Even harder to kill. I've taken slugs to the head with little effect.

That... can be useful. [He's not sure what to say to that.] I admit, I've never been shot in the head before, but I'm pretty certain I would die if I did.

It is when you deal with Fables. We tend to be pretty rough with each other.

Yeah? I suppose if everyone can take a bullet to the head and walk away it kind of ups the ante, huh? Or is that just you?

We're all pretty sturdy. Woody once ended a conversation by throwing me out of a second storey window. Faith buried an axe in his head for a bit. When you can take it, things escalate a bit easier. No one carries anything worse than an injured ego within a week or two.

Yeah. No one who can survive something like that back home. I can't image how bad things would get back home if people could get up and brush something like that off. That's... that's frankly amazing.

I wish I could take an axe to the head and just have a headache.

...I'm assuming he at least had a headache after something like that.

Immortality... means something else for us. We've had a long time to live with it. And each other.

He had a bandage across his pate for a week. But he was fighting Jersey with me two days later.

I guess you have all the time in the world to calm down from a fight when you're both immortal. Don't have to worry about it being too late to forgive.

We've worked out who can live with each other and who needs to be on different continents.

We hold grudges like nothing else.

But isn't it better to forgive and forget? Especially if you're immortal?

I was a wolf. They're prey species. Of course I hunted them. The only thing I didn't hunt to eat was other carnivores, usually. Don't taste good. And wolves, of course. I'm not a cannibal.

All I meant was I hope they also see one day that you've changed.

It's been... five hundred years. I doubt they're changing any time in the foreseeable future.

And I can imagine pretty far into the future. Hating me gives them something to occupy themselves. It's not skin off my nose. Not like I go anywhere near any of them.

Hey, when you have all the time in the world who knows what may happen. The ticket to the future is always blank after all. As long as it's not causing you trouble I suppose that's for the best you stay away then.

If I'm not over stepping and being rude; what changed you from just being a wolf to Sheriff Wolf?

I suppose, when the Adversary attacked, we had a common enemy. I started attacking his slave caravans and freeing people and some of them... started thanking me. Being nice. It was... new. Started me thinking of them as things other than prey who liked hurting me.
