I didn't forget. [Even if he had only started to put that book to use in their dying days of Kyriakos. It hadn't made the trip back to the mansion, something left for his team to use in keeping up the greenhouse he'd begun.] But the library is what's available now.

[ He nods slowly. ]

I'll take a look.

Not that I really know much about managing plants on a spaceship. The Windrose has a hanging garden... and there's the Iskaulit, of course.

Maybe we can make one for the Heron.

[exothermia]

[Erik hums quietly, thinking about it. What the Windrose has is a bit too elaborate and involved. One or two plants would be fine, though... easy to manage.]

Maybe.

Something small . . . manageable. Ours.

[ The last part is a little quieter, tentative. ]

[He smiles faintly at the suggestion. Whether anyone else would bother with the plants is a moot point. The two of them could manage a couple of pots.]

[ He exhales quietly. ]

I'll ask Tempest which one of her plants copes best with being moved indoors.

I think that's her plan - for her room at least. That's why she asked me to help her collect plants.

[It's been good busy-work, he'll give it that much.]

[ He nods. ]

[Erik tilts his head slightly at the use of her other name, but doesn't comment. He's known her real name for years, ever since the library. That was another Tempest, though, and this one doesn't remember those days. So Erik doesn't use the name.]

And strong-arming me into gardening.

I don't hear you complaining.

[exothermia]

Because I'm done for now. Besides... I've gardened before.

[axiomed]

[ Wryly. ]

[He raises an eyebrow.] And what is it you're thinking of exactly?

[Erik just sighs lightly, amused, and shakes his head.] The mansion or Kyriakos, right?

I did some gardening in Poland as well. Upkeep, more than anything.

[axiomed]

A little of both, I suppose.

[ He softens a little at the mention of Poland. ] Oh?

Mm. [He looks off across the glade, where the smaller ferns and flowers are still swaying in the light breeze.] I kept some vegetables; carrots, cabbages. [Keeping their own food had been sensible, with the shortages that came from living under communist rule.] There were flowers around, but those were just the wild ones.

It was mostly... a weekend thing.

It sounds lovely.

[He doesn't look around, lost in thought. He does keep talking, a bit quieter than before.]

Nina would help, sometimes. [A pause.] Though she liked to put birds on my head to 'supervise' me.

[axiomed]

[ Charles doesn't look as if he's heard anything strange. ]

[Even if he had, Erik wouldn't have seen it. He can feel the past brushing at the corners of his mind as always, though it leaves off the clawing pain for today. Nina's giggles as he tried to keep a straight face when birds started pecking through his hair.

Glancing over at Charles, he lets out a breath and simply inclines his head.]
