[ a grimace. she can hear the disconnect -- ahsoka is certainly more the former than the latter, but she would never ask her to swear anything. she's already left the bonds of one order. ]

Certainly. One role does not preclude the other. [ she straightens up -- just so she can eye ahsoka. ] It was only a jape, sweet Ahsoka. You're my friend. I would not ask you to swear any oaths to me.

[Ahsoka smiles, but it doesn't reach her eyes. Instead, she looks away.]

... I would swear it, if you wanted me to. ... But I couldn't keep it. People here are always-- well. You know. ... Here one day, gone the next.

[ she doesn't need to be force-sensitive to see the disconnect -- between the smile, and the eyes. the turn of ahsoka's head. sansa presses her lips into a line and lives inside her thoughts. ]

No. No -- I would rather you never need be false. [ not to me. not to anyone. ] And you have all manner of friends, Ahsoka. It would not be fair of me to demand more of you than they do. No matter how remarkable a sworn shield you would make.

[She looks up at Sansa, then.]

As long as I'm here, I'll protect you. I don't need an oath for that.

[ frankly, ahsoka's words just now are easily as good as any oath.

indeed: ] Before I met you, I believed such vows were necessary. Without oaths made before the gods, I wondered why anyone should be loyal beyond their kin. And even oaths are no real assurance. But when you say it, I believe you.
