Stating the obvious, I guess. [...] So uh, may I ask what you're working on?

An enchantment.

[He holds out his hand, and one of his daggers flips up into it.]

[For the dagger, huh? Stefan tilts his head thoughtfully.]

Just 'cause? I know the animals here feel more magical than usual.

There is an excess of energies here that make this sort of work more easily done.

That's good, right? In terms of making all your work easier?

[It's a genuine question. Honestly, it's a mixed bag for Stefan, considering how much energy's packed into the local fauna.]

Very much so. It means I can undertake greater works and finish them more quickly. [He snort.] So if you've something you want enchanted, now would be the time to ask.

I would, but actually... could I just watch you work?

[Stefan's cheeks are a little flushed as he gestures towards the dagger.]

I've seen magic before, but I can't say I understand how enchantments work or what they're even meant to do.

[Loki might be preening, just a little. He does so like to be appreciated.]

I suppose you could.

An enchantment is ultimately a magical effect that will continue to function indefinitely, whether I am present or not, and linked permanently to a person, place, or thing. Generally with a... situational trigger of sorts on it. As an example... me making myself invisible is a bit of magic. But I could create an enchantment and place it on a rock that you could carry around with you, and then the rock would make you invisible every time you sang a specific poem to it.

It requires a great deal more power, because it must be able to endure.

[Ooh! Stefan nods, half-wondering if he should start taking notes. He knows he won't be examined on this, but his knowledge of magic is laughable (even more so, considering how magic literally runs through his veins).]

That makes sense, thank you. No wonder everyone's been so eager to come out here...

[He folds his arms, finally letting himself relax.]

The person owning the enchantment doesn't need magic either, right? Like with the rock you mentioned, it would still work even if I didn't have any magic of my own?

I know not how many are honing their craft here, but to any who can perceive such energies at all, I imagine the effect is... invigorating. [He's certainly found himself in high spirits because of it.]

Precisely. Part of the high energy requirement is providing a store of its own. Some enchantments must be renewed periodically for that reason. Others, if one is clever, can be engineered to self-renew.

You said it. Even I can feel it, and I'm pretty low on the magical totem pole.

[Wait. He's never officially told Loki the truth, has he? Too late to take it back now.]
