How strange. A sentient planet. Given how this new planet greeted us, I wonder if we're dealing with something similar?

Possibly. Either way we need to be careful, especially since I am not exactly magically inclined.

Neither am I. But I've dealt with magic before. Not quite like this, but hopefully we won't have any fireballs hurled at us.

[She glances at Riona's weapons.]

You don't happen to have any more swords in the armory do you? I don't trust that the phasers will work properly here.

I have an additional sword and a spare dagger, but that is all. Are you able to wield either?

[dancingmd]

The sword is not exactly like those I have wielded before but... better than no protection at all.

[bryces_pup]

No? What sort of sword have you wielded before, then?

[dancingmd]

A bat' leth. It's a two-handed sword, shaped a little like a crescent moon.

[bryces_pup]

Huh. [Now that sounds intriguing.] I think I'd like to see one sometime. But anyway, if you don't mind waiting, I can go get the other sword for you.

[dancingmd]

If I can get one made perhaps.

[She smiles.] And of course. Thank you.

[And she'll wait patiently for Riona to return.]

[Doot doot, flash forward to Riona returning with swords in hand.]

Here you are. [She hands one to Beverly.] I bought that on that station we were at, when I first arrived. [A mischievous smile tugs at her lips.] It's what I was saving up for, and why I got into so many of those spectator fights you scolded me for participating in.

[Beverly huffs as she takes the sword.]

Still doesn't mean I approve of it. I would have bought you one, you know.

But I didn't know you as well back then. Besides, it was something I felt like I earned. And it kept my hand to hand sharp. Something I might need to use here, Maker knows.

[She still doesn't like it but she can understand it at least, so she lets the matter drop. Not anything she can change about it anyway.]

If you're anything to go by, they must be terrifyingly tough. [She laughs.] But that'll have to wait. We have a forest to wade through first. Shall we?

[And off they go into the green wilderness that may or may not contain things that can eat them.

It's a bit nostalgic for Riona, traipsing through a forest like this. She climbs over roots and rocks with ease, well practiced at having to do such.]

Did you ever have much chance to go exploring like this, Beverly? On your starship?

Sometimes. Not as much as I used to - the CMO is rarely part of landing parties.

They don't bring a medic along? I'd think you'd be an essential part of a landing party.

[dancingmd]

I'm hardly the only doctor on board - I have several dozen staff members working under me. And it's just as important that at least one of the command staff stays on board, in case something happens on the ship while the landing parties are away.

Oh. Then your ship is much larger than I imagined. Most of the sailing vessels back home were lucky to have a healer on board.

The Enterprise is more like... A traveling village. We have over 1,000 people on board, living and working on the ship for months or years at a time.
