Was your home so terrible then? That is a pity. But ah... it sounds as if you were not home, before. Renart? I believe I met a lovely fox by that name, yes.

My home was not a terrible place, no. I was stolen away from it before the Fleet and spent a year in a wasteland where everything was twisted with pestilence and cruelty. Even the plants could attack when they took a mind to it. Renart, Espio, and I were all there together along with more than a hundred other souls who arrived and faded from their very existence.

I'm not sure if you've seen it, but Renart does have a human form. [Just to make sure the man doesn't think he's in love with a literal four-legged fox.]

That is a sad tale to hear, and I am sorry you had to suffer so. A place like this must seem a paradise in comparison!

She does? I did not know. But she shared my plate and asked for a song, a few planetfalls past.

Quite. [That's all that really needs to be said about that. He does miss the people he knew in Between, though.

And his position.]

She does, indeed, and she's extraordinarily beautiful, as one might expect of a vixen. I don't suppose she offered you anything in return for your food and entertainment? She does have a bad habit of taking without offering something in return if people let he get away with it.

[ Maglor chuckles softly ]

I suppose I am not surprised, no. [ He agrees ] She offered me her company and her conversation, but thinking her a fox in truth I did not expect more, and in truth, as a bard, I value a good story as much as any payment!
poisoninmypocket: (neutral | earnest)

[personal profile] poisoninmypocket 2016-11-03 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's fair enough.]

Do be careful not to let her get away with too much, or you'll never be rid of her wiles. [Monty's expression and tone are fond.] She does enjoy playing a pest.

But tell me of your plans down here, sir! Are you off exploring for treasures? Simply enjoying the greenery or in search of new stories to sing?
bythewaves: (smile)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2016-11-04 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
I will bear that in mind, the next time our paths cross.

[ Maglor smiles ]

I? I am simply enjoying the trees. It is not often that I can meet a Wood that is so alive, and I find that after the long stretches amongst the stars, I miss the green.

[personal profile] poisoninmypocket 2016-11-06 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm... Have you been to any other planets like this in your time here? [Monty places a hand on one of the tree trunks.]

Even before the wastes, I lived in a city all my life. We had parks, but nothing like this.
bythewaves: (hm?)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2016-11-07 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Not quite like this. [ Maglor shakes his head ] But there was one where the sea sang clearly and the woods were green and great. I much preferred that one to some of the others that we have visited.

Were there no woods beyond your city walls?
poisoninmypocket: (curious | ponder)

[personal profile] poisoninmypocket 2016-11-12 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[There were woods, he just didn't travel.]

London's a very large city. I fear I was rather devoted to my work at home. I did once visit a resort in Chiselmere. There was a very nice forest surrounding a lake. I wasn't able to stay very long, though.

[Just long enough to murder two people...]

What are the other worlds you've visited like when they're not this? I know one man who said the world he visited was filled with poisons.
bythewaves: (alone)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2016-11-13 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
That is a pity! But work, I know, can take much time away. Too much, perhaps.

[ Maglor nods ] I remember the world of poison. That was my first. How ill used that world had been! But the people there... they were trying. To preserve what they could and to heal what might still be healed. I suspect a little too late, but better that they try, for one never knows. The one after that... ah, but I miss that one. There was a sea there, a great ocean that seemingly stretched forever, and great green woods. More friendly than this one. And the world after was also interesting - the folk there had split into three groups, all suspicious of each other, although they had more in common than they had different.
poisoninmypocket: (confused | hold on a moment)

[personal profile] poisoninmypocket 2016-11-16 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Far too much for some. [Mother had worked herself to death. That seems a bit heavy an issue to raise with a man he's only just met, though. Monty just smiles and shrugs his shoulders in 'well, what does one do?' way.]

I beg your pardon, though. There were people on that poisoned planet? However did they survive?!

[He'll get back to the more hospital places in a moment. That just seems... impossible.]

And what happened to their planet? Were they the ones who poisoned it?
bythewaves: (hm?)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2016-11-17 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
[ Maglor wonders who he knows who has been hurt, but does not press ]

Aye - they had specialised gear to filter out the poisons. And I do not understand the fine details, but I am given to understand they had... a machine? Which was meant to help make the place livable, but which was breaking down and poisoning the planet instead. You might ask around, there are those with far better knowledge than I who were trying to fix things.
