A good tongue lashin'? [He couldn't help it, Remy had to answer it even if Kirk was currently distracted.

Looking ahead at the dense foliage before them, he raised a brow in thought.]
Suppose too great a risk of settin' a forest fire if I try 'nd burn our way through, hein? Where's a machete or an archaeologist when ya need one?

[ You are horrible, Remy. Just. Horrible. But he kind of loves it because he's laughing aloud at that, breaking some of the tension, though more than enough is left as they walk. ]

I feel like that's another joke, but I'm not quite getting it.

A poor one, but oui, was an attempt at one. [Remy admits it, most of his jokes were bad ones.] Would be considered ancient by ya'll back home, but ever heard of the Indiana Jones movies? [And considering the actor, it also made it all the weirder to see Han Solo show up, both here and back in at Luceti. Must be quite a mind blowing experience to see yourself live another life all because of an actor playing multiple roles.] Some guy goin' to exotic places to find mysteries of the world, typically gettin' himself mixed up in all sorts of trouble.

I don't know about Indiana Jones, but that sounds like the premise of quite a few action-adventure movies I know.

[ He was half paying attention, pausing as he considered the signal and the surrounding area. After a moment, he headed off at a slight angle to the path they had been taking. ]

I think we're getting closer now. Or we were closer than we thought. I think the forest is messing with the telemetry.

Ya kiddin' me... well, I get it, old stuff for ya by ya time, but we be watchin' them if they ever show up in the media collection. [One could hope.

Realizing his jokes were only partly hitting home, Remy altered his own direction to match Kirk's, pushing back the smaller branches out of his way and ducking under the larger ones.]
Trees can do that?

[ He laughed and gave him a warm nod. ]

All right, it's a deal. But I require butter and salt on my popcorn, no exceptions.

[ But then his attention is diverted again, never one to leave a task for to long, even with conversation. ]

It's possible. If the trees themselves give off a kind of energy or other interference, they can. It's not one hundred percent certain, but it's possible. At any rate, we're close.

Only 'cause ya haven't tried m' spice 'nd sugar mix I got for popcorn. [It was said in a semi-distracted tone, as Remy turned his eyes out more to the forest around them than concentrating on their joking. Then again, joking came very natural to him, able to just open his mouth and let something come out without much effort.] Never would had considered trees to have an energy, let 'lone one to mess with equipment. Sounds a little too tree huggin'.

[Before becoming more focused, gaze turning to Kirk.] 'ny clue what to expect? Ya done this kinda thing lot more than I have.

Hmm, I say energy, but what it tends to mean is electrical interference. Eels on earth can put out electric currents, right? Well, we've discovered some trees that do the same, or trees that have metals and special ores or minerals that are part of their bark that can mess up readings too. It's just a matter of different biology.

[ He paused as he considered that question. ]

The locals don't seem to concerned with this signal, or with this forest. It makes me think there's not anything immediately dangerous up ahead, at least, and nothing that the locals would mind us investigating either since there were no warnings against going or traps to stop us along the way. We'll know more when we get there, but for now I expect something along the lines of a ship wreck or crash of some sort.

[Well, if you're going to be all logical and stuff about that... It, it really did make sense, even if it wasn't something really recognized from where, or when, Remy was from.] Ya fancy future man 'nd ya fancy science.

But this all be kinda weird. Seems curiosity be a common factor 'cross 'ntelligent species, surprised someone hasn't gone lookin' for it, even just for the hell of it. Or made up some sort of ghost story or the like 'bout what's out there. Humans be goin' places they shouldn't be for years now, or made up spooky stories 'bout stuff they don't understand. That 'lone makes this... [Suspicious.] Weird.
