Not through any frame of reference we have, most likely. [He had given up trying to work out a logical basis for some things a while ago.]

I know that some have assumed that mutant abilities in my own world were a result of magic, but it isn't the case.
mucked: (☂ mermaids!)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-11-01 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course not. As otherworldly as it would seem, mutation is science. [ that much she can agree upon. ] Perhaps merely science some of us can't yet comprehend.

[ she is lumping herself within that 'us'. she doesn't possess so fragile an ego that she cannot admit to her ignorance. ]
exothermia: (We live in a beautiful world)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-03 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods, glad not to have to explain the point. While mutants have become common knowledge at home, there are still plenty here who look askance at him when he mentions them. Of course, many here would also have encountered the Fleet's mutants before. It simplifies matters.][It would explain much about En Sabah Nur's history, as well. Not a topic he wants to dwell on.] You're familiar, then?
mucked: (☂ we learn to drive)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-11-04 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I've met a few since arriving in the Fleet. Rogue -- and Mister Remy. [ she gauges his reaction, if she can. ] It seems there may be a bit of overlap in their worlds and my own -- sort of.
exothermia: (To run from)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-05 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
[He sighs a little at the mention of Rogue - their conversations had been tense, and now she was gone. His feelings were mixed about her, as it always had been around the mutants who knew him as a staunch opponent. Remy he had only spoken to the once, and it was much the same, though slightly less brittle.]

I'm from a different version of their world. They both knew another Erik, and my own time is at least a couple of decades before their own. [He shakes his head, still a bit bemused by it all despite it being familiar by now.] So I'm not that surprised to hear of someone else that might overlap with it all. It seems to be a common theme.
mucked: (☂ talk and talk and talk)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-11-05 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
-- Aha, you're also a fossil? [ her playful tone is gentle, if ever so slightly vexed. not with him, but with the grander picture of being so far behind so many. ] I count myself at least seventy decades behind most -- including those from my version of the world.
exothermia: (Big game today)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-06 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
[The comment does inspire a quirk of the lips, and he's not so resigned as to find no amusement in it.]

Everyone commented on the fact that my hair wasn't grey yet. [It's starting to turn, but he's certainly nowhere near silver-fox.] When I originally arrived I was from 1973. Now it's 1983, but it's still behind most others.

Seven decades sounds like it has me bested, though.
mucked: (☂ we saw you lying in the road)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-11-06 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ -- my, that's something of a leap. ten whole years. and yet, all the same, she can't help but feel a little more akin to his time than to the more modern years. she's read up on the differences between the decades. ]

When I originally arrived, I was from 1946. And now it's 1947. So seven decades may have you bested, but a leap of ten years? [ her eyebrows raise. they both win. ]
exothermia: (Yeah we do)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-07 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
[He merely shakes his head.] I don't recommend it, as an experience.

[The Forties he remembers, but he imagines from a very different perspective than Peggy.] You're right that there don't seem to be many from that time here. There was a girl on my ship for a short while who came from the middle of the war, but she's the only other one.

[ there is a distracting and dismaying comfort found in speaking with someone who can say the war and refer to precisely the same one that always looms in her memories. taken aback by that, she clears her throat and averts her eyes -- just for a moment. ]

What a miserable time to come from. [ peggy might have made her best career choices in the war, but she never lost sight of the horror of it all. ]
exothermia: (Places we've grown)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-09 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
[The glance away doesn't go unnoticed, but Erik won't comment on it. The war was much further in the past for him, decades ago now... and yet it was his shadow at all times, there whenever he looked behind himself.]

It is. But it ended. [That war did, at least, though he'd felt no relief in it at the time. The war continues though, as it always does. Wars between nations and species both. He shakes his head and changes the subject.]

It's never pleasant to suddenly get a chunk of time back.
mucked: (☂ etherized upon a table)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-11-09 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
No -- it's not. [ terse, guarded agreement. not that her guard is personal, so to speak. ] With just a year it was like...like remembering someone else's memories, for just a split second. And then trying to intersperse them with those made here. Like stitch-work. Or basket-weaving.

exothermia: ('Cause all will be okay; you'll see)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-12 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
[It's an apt description, and one that fits his own experiences too well. He's a little gruff when he replies.] Nothing as neat as that, I find. [He's dropped plenty of stitches along the way.]

But it has to be made to work.
mucked: (☂i searched for form and land)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-11-13 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Then more like patchwork, perhaps. [ a bit of on-the-fly revision. it helps, really, to talk it through. ] A quilt made of memories made back home, and memories made here.
exothermia: (Yeah we do)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-15 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
That's as apt a description as any. [For something as formless as memory work.]

-- You have people here, don't you? From home?

[ she vaguely recalls a conversation with that professor chap -- and conversations around the heron's captain, too, that suggested erik and charles knew one another. ]

What do they think of your ten year leap?
exothermia: (Keep your distance)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-17 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
[He smiles slightly, humourless.]

They feel the same way about it. It happened to the four of us at the same time. [To say any more about how their relationships had fractured and been taped back together as a consequence of it would be to go too far.]
mucked: (☂ 'cause the hypnotist entranced him)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-11-17 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
All four of you? [ she doesn't veil her surprise. ] That sounds like quite the coincidence. So much so that I would hesitate to call it one.
exothermia: (Out of the light)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-19 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't. [He's certain of that.] It happened at the same time, to all of us, and we all woke at the same moment as well. Only those of us from our specific reality.

It was not pleasant.
mucked: ( easystreet ) (☂ won't have to drive too far)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-11-21 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
A few too many representatives from -- my reality, I suppose -- have been waking up and remembering more, as well. Though far less well-synced. [ a hem and a haw. she'll never really be within that group. she's too outdated; too old; to left behind. ]

Some of their memories have put them at odds with one another.
exothermia: (There's another junkie with a rat)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-22 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Erik's brow creases slightly at the last comment. It's not that he's heard of the conflict; more that however terrible the events his own friends had remembered, they had managed to make it out still united. If they had remembered just a bit less, that might not be the case... for Erik in particular. But things were all right with the mutants, for the most part. The biggest odds to deal with was the sudden shift in his relationship with Charles. For Erik, it feels like an insurmountable change to deal with, so much lost or changed with those revelations. He can't think on it without a mixture of loss and guilt.

It had been catastrophic for them in some ways. But they weren't at odds - he couldn't imagine having to wake up in a place like this and suddenly detest a friend.]

That's unfortunate. Especially in such closed quarters.

[ her nod is slow -- thoughtful. ]

Fair warning, but it all hinges upon your captain. [ ... ] Barnes. He's something of a sore point between some members of what will one day be the Avengers.
exothermia: (There will be rain)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-23 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
[--he snorts, unperturbed.]

That has nothing to do with me. Winter is the captain on our ship, and that's all that matters as far as I'm concerned. [Erik's of no mind to be drawn into sides in some argument he's not part of, but this will be his by default. Despite some rocky events, Winter has been decent to him, and Charles is close to the man.]
mucked: (☂ together we can get somewhere)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-11-23 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. I'd expect nothing less -- speaking as a Captain, myself. [ peggy might have her own tension with barnes, but it isn't because of what happens back in their home universe. that, she has nothing to do with. ]

And the Starstruck shall always have the Heron's back, so to speak. Old alliances run deep. [ and she misses jim something fierce. ]
exothermia: (Everywhere I go)

[personal profile] exothermia 2016-11-26 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
[The idea of old alliances makes him faintly uneasy; too reminiscent of the warring teams in the other places he's been. He knows logically that it won't come to that here. Nothing in the setup has lead to direct competition. Still...]

I know Wanda on your ship. I wasn't aware there were ties between us otherwise.
