[Another year for the Drift Fleet, another birthday for Beverly. She’s given up on trying to determine exactly how old she is - fifty seems a good enough compromise - but that does not mean she’s not going to celebrate. She’s had people she loves unexpectedly returned to her and that alone is worth celebrating.

So, after a bit of flying around the forested planet, she finds the perfect location for a little birthday brunch picnic, right on the edge of a grassy mesa, with one of the enormous fungus-trees providing some cool shade. A large blanket is set out with the finest smorgasbord the Blue Fish can offer: smoked t-rex meat, fresh fruit from the garden, pastries, and of course, syntheholic mimosas. People are of course free bring their own food as well. There are also a couple of decks of cards and poker chips, should anyone fancy a game. All in all, a it’s a very relaxed, casual atmosphere, simply a nice meal with close friends.]

[He's been quiet for the past few weeks, but luckily the Vision has awakened from his Atroma-induced unconsciousness in time to attend her party. He's brought her a potted plant (this one a particularly nice orchid-like flower from the hand-holding planet) as a gift, and he's dressed up nicely for the event.]

Vision!

[Her eyes light up when he arrives, relief rushing through her that he woke up safe and sound. Careful not to squish his gift, she ducks in to give him a quick kiss on the cheek in greeting.]

It's good to see you up! How are you feeling?

[As if he just had a slight cold - it's disturbing, really, how common these comas have become.]

[Honestly, it's had less effect on him than a common cold would. (He'd had one of those on Arslae, and he hadn't enjoyed it in the slightest.)]

I'm perfectly fine, as it happens; in some ways I'm even refreshed by it. I was glad not to have missed this, however; happy birthday.

[Ah yes, the cold that conveniently infected everyone who should not be able to get a cold, but seemingly no one else. She was also Not A Fan.]

Though on that note, as I have just awakened - was there a particular reason you decided to have this on the planet, or for variety's sake alone?

[She shrugs, then smiles.]

I just thought it would be nice for us all to have a little change of scenery.

It's certainly impressive.

[Coming from someone who likes gardening as much as he does, the massive forest makes a great backdrop regardless.]

We were drifting for rather a long time, weren't we? Some fresh air would seem to be most welcome.

Always take advantage of it while you can - one of the first things I learned in Starfleet.

And you never know if you will have the opportunity to visit such a place again.

Exactly - though in this case we have been to a world very like this one before, only it was less... benevolent.

Could you tell me more about what happened on that world?

[She nods.]

It affected crewmembers who were magical [Amazing, how easily she says that now] even more intensely than this one. They felt called to the planet and if they had another form - a dragon, for example - they would revert to that form. For the rest of us, the planet wasn't so friendly. If you were there after dark, the forest would begin to attack you.

[The magic he's familiar with is all various forms of energy manipulation; it doesn't bother him to hear it described that way. Especially for someone like Misty, who doesn't seem to understand what she does, so it may as well be magic.]

But there's been no overt danger from this one that you're aware of?

Not so far, no. But I haven't ventured anywhere after dark, nor have I attempted to harvest any plants yet, just in case.

Well, I certainly am interested in the plants. I'll be certain to do it carefully, if I should find some I want to raise on my ship.

[After dark is an entirely reasonable precaution, though.]

I've taken some notes and drawings on what I've found so far, if you're interested.

[He looks mock-offended.]

As though I would turn down knowledge. Really, Beverly.

[She laughs.] Wait right here then!

[She returns a minute late with her bag, takes out a simple sketchbook, and flips to where Daneel started his botanical drawings before handing it to Vision - though others sketches, including of Beverly will be mixed in.]

[He pages through it carefully and smiles to see some of the drawings. He'd ask if they were hers, but the sketches of her suggest otherwise. Ah--and he'd signed his name to one. The Vision nods.]

These are very good, reminiscent of the nineteenth-century Earth style of naturalists before reliable and portable cameras.

[He looks up.]

In fact, would you mind if I took a picture of some of these pages?

[She blushes slightly when he gets to one of the drawings of her, but she nods, presuming he means of the plants.]

No, of course not.

[Oh yes, he is most definitely referring to the sketches of plants. So he pulls out his camera (where was it hiding? We don't ask where superheroes keep things) and takes a few snapshots of the pages.

There is one sketch of Beverly looking particularly happy he comes across when flipping through the pages and he sets his camera down to tap it.]

Do you know, this would look very good in a frame.

[It is a rather flattering drawing, but truth be told, it's not her favorite. Her favorite, strangely enough, is from when she had a black eye - probably not something anyone else would pick.]

Maybe. I have a few he did of Jennifer and some other people in the fleet as well. Perhaps I could put them together.

[She nods at the sketchbook.]
