[Erik rubs at his chin, observing the duck pool. He isn't certain what number of ducks he's aiming for. The prize board wasn't all that interesting, beyond a few suspicious looking items like "Photo" and "Lucky Dip".]

That's a lot of effort to invest in.

Mmm. Perhaps it's overkill.

I would say it definitely is.

[ Glancing at the pond, Charles adds. ] You're becoming an expert at this.

That's hardly a compliment. [An expert at hooking plastic ducks isn't something to aspire to.]

Nonsense. This is the level of mastery children can only dream of.

Five year olds, maybe.

[He slots the fishing rod back into the stand with the others, finally. The duck hunt is at an end.]

I was being generous. [As the one being insulted, that is. Erik steps closer and takes one of the ducks from Charles's lap.] You, however, were not.

[He starts depositing the ducks into the prize machine, watching the credit counter tick up.]

Any preferences? [Erik hadn't thought about the actual prize part of this whole thing.]

[ He shrugs. ]

You won the ducks fair and square. Choose whatever your heart desires.

My heart doesn't consider carnival prizes that much.

[After some consideration, he stabs at the button that says 'Lucky Dip'.]

[ Charles waves his hand flippantly. ]

[A brightly-wrapped package comes tumbling down the prize chute. Erik pulls it out, and starts undoing the paper.]

I'm sure someone could claim that playing is its own reward.

[axiomed]

It takes all types.

[exothermia]

[Once he's gotten the package open... Erik has to snort, at the assortment of goods in there. Without another word, he throws Charles a knitted headband, bright red, with a matching bow on the side.]

[ He squints at it before giving Erik a flat look. ]

Really. You shouldn't have.

[He draws out a pair of socks, which also have bows on the side.]
