[Frankly, this last shuffle could go to Tartarus in a wicker basket and a card reading "Dear Tirek: Dig In." But if there's one thing that could bring some joy back to Pinkie after losing a friend, it was making others happy. Especially by throwing a birthday party she'd been planning for months, and doubly especially for the love of her life, and someone who lifted her up after the hard weekend. So early-ish in the morning, those who Pinkie knew to be Cheese's close friends would get a video message.]

Morning, everybody~! Pinkie Pie here, and I've got a super DUPER special birthday I need help celebrating today! My super duper co-party planner and even super-duper-er special somepony Cheesy turns another year older today, so come by the Iskaulit for lots of cake and punch and games! See you there~

[Indeed, Pinkie pulled out as many stops as she could for this one. There's a vast and varied snack bar (vegetarian of course) featuring fondue and chips and dip and pizzas, a literal rainbow of punchbowls, and as many non-dice party games as you can shake a tail at. And the centerpiece is a pretty dang big chocolate cake with a frosting in the image of Cheese's Party Howitzer, Boneless 2 riding on top like a proud general. (She wanted it to be colossal but flour's been at a premium and the last of it went into this beauty.) Come on in, guys, and give the Fleet's first party pony some love back.]

[Vash hides a chuckle behind his hand as Cheese starts bouncing on his hooves. It was so nice to see someone so excited and as it's Cheese's birthday he's happy to keep him talking on his apparent favorite subject.]

I'm sure she's glad you're here too. Someone from home to share stories and memories with. How did you two meet?

[He's sort of assuming with Pinkie most memories with her are good ones. How could a meeting go bad?]

[Cheese, as always, tends to...mask the truth. He doesn't completely lie, but some aspects of his life, as far as he's concerned, are his own. He doesn't like talking about it, so he avoids it. His life living rough and alone before running into her isn't a fun tale.]

I happened on one of her parties when I was a colt. We...didn't actually speak then, but she inspired me, and I realised being a party pony was my destiny, too.

It must have been a really good party for you to realise you destiny at it.

It was the most amazing party I'd ever seen. She just made everypony so...so happy. I knew that's what I needed to do, too.

[That's amazing. The message Vash has mostly been failing to spread for over a hundred years. He can't stop grinning like an idiot hearing how Pinkie has well and truly managed to get people inspired to spread happiness.] Oh yeah? Did you ever tell her that? I'm sure she would have felt very honored and proud.

I did. I told her later than I should have, but I did. I'm glad I did, too.

[He told her after he'd almost ruined it, ruined her. If he could have done it differently, he absolutely would have. But it's water under the bridge now. What's done is done. She forgave him and now...well, things are better than ever, now. ]

Hey! What matters is you told her! [He pats Cheese once on the back.] It's not easy telling someone that they helped you find your destiny after all. I bet she was pretty proud though when you told her, huh?

[He laughs softly. ]

Yeah, she was, actually. It- it meant as much to her as it does to me, it turns out.

I know I'd feel pretty great if someone told me I inspired them to make others happy. [Maybe he should try throwing parties when he goes back home. Maybe that's the secret he's been missing this whole time.]

I think that's what she felt, yeah.

[Cheese would absolutely recommend it. ]

SO! Back onto your party though. I admit, I didn't know you well enough to know what you might like for a gifts. Any suggestions?

Oh, that's okay. I don't need any gifts, just having somepony show up is enough for me.

I dunno, would you accept that answer if our roles where reversed and I was telling you I was just happy somepony showed up?

Wellll, if that would make you happy, yeah. Because you being happy is the most important part.

[Vash nods. Happily accepting that answer.] Very well then! If me just being here makes you happy then I'll be happy with that!

Tell you what though. If you're ever at the Space Bar sometimes and I'm working in the kitchen I'll gladly make you any meal you want there. On the house.

[Oh hey, free food! ]

Oh wow, okay! You got it, buddy. I won't turn that down.

Great! [Vash grins and gives Cheese a thumbs up before he stops to think that a hooved person may not understand the gesture.] Just ask for Vash, but I'll let the other chefs know I owe you one and it shouldn't be a problem even if I'm not there.

[At least Cheese has lived amongst humans enough to get it, even if he can't return the gesture. ]
