You are cordially invited to Cisco and Winn's Not-Too-Terrifying Halloween Costume Party!

[ on the night of the 28th, the lecture hall will open its gates though it'll look remarkably different. Winn and Cisco would have decorated the corridors leading to it with Jack-o'-lanterns made from the pumpkins gathered at the little patch on the planet. The hall itself will be similarly decorated, along with other traditional scary Halloween decorations made from paper and fabric ( don't ruin the little paper spiders, they took hours to make! ). There will be music from various times of Earth-1 and Earth-3, so don't be surprised to find Lady Gaga playing alongside the Spice Girls! Feel free to make requests or otherwise, just show your skills on the dance floor!

There will be a bar run by Nami offering free sodas, though you'll have to pay for your own alcohol ( remember, don't drink and fly! ). Alongside the bar, characters will find a few tables offering candy from Earth-1 won by Cisco at the game room with a little sign reading TAKE ONE, LEAVE SOME FOR OTHERS and quite a lot of space chips and protein dips as well as various candy from all over the different planets ( cleverly hoarded by Winn! ) and a large selection of pumpkin pies and pumpkin treats. Characters will also find a line leading to Cisco's trusty ice cream machine, though it'll only offer peanut butter flavored sorbet.

At the corner of the hall there will be a karaoke machine with a little sign-up sheet. Characters could sign up solo or in groups and list the song they'd like to sing. Keep in mind though, the entire hall will be able to hear your rendition of Sexy and I Know it!

Adventure-seeking characters will be able to follow signs reading HAUNTED HOUSE and reach a large hall that was turned into a maze by large cardboard blocks painted black or covered by dark fabrics. Making it out of the maze won't be too hard and the maze itself won't be too frightening but will be mildly startling. It'll include some nifty engineered animatronics of witches, scarecrows, scary clowns and skeletons as well as holograms of ghosts! The song featured in the invitation will also be heard here, on repeat. It's a good break from the dancing and for some private conversations and moments.

Remember, costume are mandatory! you don't want to be caught by tonight's pumpkin kings, do you? ]

[goodness! who is that top-hatted, suave and debonair man gliding through the lecture hall with his cape swooshing majestically behind him-- oh no wait, it's just Kaito, false alarm. even so, he wears the character just as much as he wears the costume: with practiced comfort and ease. if you happen to wander near him, you'll be greeted with a flashy grin and a cordial tip of his hat. and if you linger, you might be treated to a little extra entertainment to go with your Halloween fun]

Nice party, huh? But it wouldn't be Halloween without a few spooks, right? So I hope you don't mind if I ask. . . do you believe in ghosts?

[and with that question, he flicks his wrist, produces a deck of cards out of thin air, and begins shuffling same casually between his fingers. his eyes twinkle with mischief]

[if you don't catch him using the holiday to show off a few new magic tricks, then you might catch him by the food table, helping himself to candy-- some real candy, not that fake protein stuff, thank you very much.]

[and if you don't see him hoarding food, then maybe you'll find him eyeing the haunted house with obvious interest. or maybe you'll catch him trying to sneak plastic spiders into people's drinks as a little Halloween prank. HOW MATURE!!]

What do you mean, believe in them?

[are you gonna try to spook the girl who can bench press you, kaito.]

[actually the trick he has in mind isn't as much "scary" as it is "Halloween themed"]

[he arcs the cards in between his hands as he shufflfes]

Where I come from, some people believe ghosts and spirits are just creatures of myth and legend.

[She has to take a moment to think.]

I have never met one myself, to my knowledge, but I cannot say for certain one way or another.

[lets out a thoughtful hum and stacks the deck in one palm, before he bulls a dark handkerchief out of his pocket]

I can't say I believed in ghosts before tonight, honestly. I think my deck of cards is haunted, y'know?

[he drapes the handkerchief over the palmed deck with a flourish]

If you get me an empty glass, I'll show you.

[She walks over to the bar for a moment.

She comes back with an empty glass. And a knife.]

[. . . hold on for a second, here]

[points at the knife]

Pretty sure if my deck of cards is haunted, it's by a benevolent, fun loving spirit. Not a vengeful one.

[When Kaito approaches him with the question, he smiles a little with amusement as he watches]

Of course I do. Are those ghost cards?

[lets out a thoughtful hum as he arcs the cards between his hands]

Quite possibly. I've never owned a haunted deck of cards before, so this is new.

[and then, another smile]

If you can spare me an empty glass, I can show you what I mean.

[He seems amused, offering an empty glass]

Well alright. Show me what you got.

[Kaito accepts the glass with a flourish and a bow, the deck of cards now stacked in his other palm. he places the glass down on the nearest table and reaches into his pocket for a handkerchief]

For the most part, the cards act like normal cards should. But every so often. . .

[the handkerchief is unceremoniously dropped on top of the deck of cards. through the handkerchief (and making sure the piece of cloth stays wrapped around said card) Kaito scoops up the very first card on the top of the deck and holds it out for Allen to see]

They do somethin' a little weird. I picked up the first card of the deck, right? You can even feel it underneath the scarf to make sure it's still there.

[and should Allen take the invitation it does, indeed, feel like there's an ordinary card wrapped in that colorful cloth]

[Allen watches, taking up the invitation to make sure the ordinary card is wrapped in there]

Right, I can feel it.

Right? But when I do somethin' like this--

[he positions the card over the empty glass, and the handkerchief falls around the dinnerware, obscuring it completely. Allen will be able to hear a light thunk as the card falls into the glass, even though he can't see it thanks to the piece of cloth in the way]

[with a deep breath, Kaito yanks the handkerchief away to reveal-- an empty glass!1 but how is it empty when the card was very clearly dropped inside of it not ten seconds ago??]

Now what am I supposed to do with a card that keeps disappearing on me, huh?

[He laughs and claps a little]

Wow, that's very good! [The card shark is impressed!!]

Er, not about your cards though. You might want to buy a not haunted deck.

[she doesn't see any debonair men here, just a brat being a brat. She's in the witch costume he picked out for her, and she even went as far as putting on a little bit of make-up - if only because it'll cover up some of her bumps and bruises from her adventure on the waystation.

She reaches out to tug his hat down, because he might be a brat, but she's also a brat]

Ghosts exist, you know that.

[just wait until he hears about those waystation adventures, Clover. he squints at her as she tugs down her hat, but doesn't ask]

[she ignores the squinting, but maybe pulls the hat down just a little more. The shadow makes it easier to hide the black eye she has]

You asked I believe in ghosts, and I said they exist. Did I not answer?

[. . . there is something suspicious about her hat tugging]

People can refuse to believe in things that exist, is what I'm saying. What's up with your hat?

Yes, I know that. [she tilts her head at the question, but drops her hand and shrugs] It is not a hood, so it is harder to hide under.

[his expression turns suspicious as he immediately abandons the mildly Halloween-ish magic performance he had in mind]

Why are you trying to hide?

[usually she only tries to hide underneath her hood when she is feeling awkward or out of place or. . . is keeping secrets. . .]

[it's all three, if we're being honest. She makes a move to hide her hands in her cloak, but - no cloak. Her nose wrinkles]

Habit? I hate being exposed like this in front of so many people. ["exposed", at least for Tempest. After a moment she lifts up the hat so Kaito can see her black eye]

[. . . yep. it sure is. but he's hardly surprised, even though one eyebrow shoots up]

I certainly hope the other guy looks worse than you do. What trouble did you get into?
