[ The broadcast opens up with a loud, echoed thump, followed by video at a strange angle. The camera faces the bottom of a bunk in the Hospitality Deck. A pair of legs swings over the side, feet touching the ground. After a moment, the communicator is picked up with another few seconds of noise and a young face comes into view. After a moment, the feed cuts of.

It comes back a few moments later from one of the other cameras aboard the ship. Carl is walking cautiously down the hall, his back to the wall and a broken piece of something in his hands. (Sorry, Marsiva.) It’s clear he’s expecting an attack from somewhere. Rounding the corner, he drops the broken piece of ship and the video picks up another person- a woman. ]

Maggie? [ Aw, hey, it looks like they know each other! The fans are going to like that, right? ]

The Red Fish;; Post-Shuffle
[ What up, Red Fish? You just acquired someone with a maintenance augment! Hey, that supply closet wasn’t there before, was it? How about those nifty little space roombas? Nice. Carl is still trying to adjust to this crazy new place after being in the walker-fied shitfest that has been his life has been the past two years. It’s weird being around unfamiliar people in an unfamiliar place- space aside. How is everyone okay with being kidnapped, going about normal business?

He just doesn’t get it.

Come meet the strange kid in the sheriff hat that’s stuck with you. Carl can be found in various spots on the Red Fish: the bunks, as empty as they are, it’s odd having his own room, but the bed is comfy enough, and the blankets are clean. The kitchen, investigating that weird protein and drink machine or chowing down on that weird congratulatory ‘pudding’. Shut up, it’s not...terrible. He can probably even be found roaming the halls, trying to get used to the ship. It’s not really working too well. Being cooped up like this is definitely new, and he misses fresh air already. ]

I wasn't sure if you'd looked outside yet, but yeah, it gets worse. On the plus side, no zombies. [Sorry, man. She calls 'em like she sees 'em and when you describe people coming back from the dead to eat others even if you call them walkers or the dead it sounds like zombies to her.]

There's a plus side to being kidnapped? Sounds pretty fake.

They must be hurting for people, then. [ Why the hell would people be interested in watching a kid? ] Are there many others?

Seems like they could probably have anyone in the multiverse they want. [Should she be casually dropping "multiverse?"] I guess that means we should feel proud that they chose us. Or maybe worried for their taste.

Multiverse? Wait-- I've read about something kinda like that in a book once. So.. that's a real thing? I always thought it was make-believe.

You were probably reading science fiction? Well, it was the science part. But less proven and more theory in some worlds. [She waves a hand.] Meet proof.

So there are different versions of people walking around right now? What other kinds of stuff happens around here?

Umm...there have been. I'm not sure there are right now. But I've met another me, so I promise it's a thing. You know, as much as promises from strangers you've met over a communicator mean to you. [She gets that he is probably taking all of this with a huge grain of salt as he should be.]

You sure you want to hear all of it at once? I mean some of it's on the rare side anyway. Mostly, we have a fleet of ships, you'll get assigned to one soon and you can transfer from there if you don't like it. You'll have a position on the ship. And then we fly along until we find a planet or moon or system to stop at for about a month and then we move on again.

So we're not just in space all the time.

[ There is so much salt he is taking this all with. He is a salt mine. If what she says is true, though, they can at least get out of the ships.. Doesn't make the situation better, but small mercies. ]

That's right. They just don't let you stay behind on any of the planets or moons.

How much time do they give us on the places we stop?

[ They're prisoners, it's odd that they're being given the opportunity. Hey, he won't knock it. He'd much rather be outside than stuck on these ships. The thought still doesn't sit right with Carl. Nor is it gonna. ]

Varies. It's always been at least a month since I've been here, but it's gone up to about two months. Some of the places are more worth visiting than others. [She hasn't been a fan of all of them, but anything beats being cooped up on the ships always.]

What kinds of places have been recent?

[ Up to two months in one place? Wonder what that's all about. Not that he's unfamiliar with moving around. ]

Mmm...the planet we're at now has lots of scrap planes on it. There's space stations too, but they're a little rough. [They barely qualify as that by her definition, but definitely worth mentioning to a kid.]

Before that it was a system with planets and moons. There was a spa thing. I don't know. Just places. [She hasn't really liked any of them other than the hand holding planet.]

Anything good at the stations? [ Not that he'll even make his way over there, but it's some food for thought. ]

A spa planet? That sounds pretty weird.

Depends on your definition of good. No freedom. Occasionally better food. [Though not as good as the game room has had during this stop.]

It was more than that, but it doesn't really matter now. There's only so much you can learn about a culture and economy before you're whisked away again.

Anything's got to be better than that stuff in the kitchen. [ He pulls a face. ] Is the food on the other ships like that, too?

[ Protein weirdness that tastes kind of like it should. If someone described what chicken tastes like to someone who has never eaten, seen, or heard of a chicken before. ]

Yeeep. That's why I stock up whenever I can. But again, current stop isn't safe. Something about human trafficking.

Nobody's tried to stop it? [ Not that they'll be around to reinforce it, apparently. ]

Don't know. Haven't spent much time there myself.

Guess it wouldn't matter once we left anyway, right?

Probably not. [Unless you kill them and there isn't a huge network or others waiting in the wings to take over once they're out.]
