interfaith dinner mingle!!

Who: Interfaith Center regulars & the not-so-regulars (party crashers are welcome too!!)
Broadcast: Nope
Action: Interfaith Center on the Iskaulit
When: Forward-dated to November 4th

[The Interfaith Center sounds far more bustling and busy than usual - and anyone peering inside would quickly figure out that a communal dinner is underway! Take off your shoes and walk in: the lounge has extra tablecloths on the floor as well as buffet tables with non-alcoholic beverages and all sorts of food, including Jordanian cuisine (or the outer space equivalent of Jordanian food).

The board games are out of their hiding nooks; the furniture's arranged for the maximum seating possible; and even the teddy bears donated by Kitty & Winn are out for cuddling, should anyone want them.

The kitchen's bustling with helpers - Stefan's running around at vamp-speed to make sure everything's a) done on time and b) cooked to perfection - but he sure wouldn't mind an extra hand. And if you're still not up for some food? Well, the prayer rooms are open as usual. There's always a quiet moment to be found, even if the laughter's louder and the scent of freshly-baked mansaf's wafting through the long corridors.

Anyone and everyone who's ever been inside the Interfaith Center has been invited (via text message - and Stefan even used the fancy emoji). If you're not particularly faithful or devout? Well, drop by anyways. There's more than enough food to spare.]

The goal appears to be capturing the king.

[He gives the tallest piece a little tap from behind the line of pawns.]

Every single piece can move differently, and many of them are limited by direction rather than a single space... it's pretty complicated, actually. See for yourself.

[He offers the page out to give him an idea of what the pieces all do.]
deviances: (what he was getting us into)

[personal profile] deviances 2016-11-10 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
Capture the king, huh...

[ He squints at the page, quickly reads through what to do before handing it back and looking down at the board again. There's a smile starting at the corner of his lips - yeah, it definitely looks complicated, but it could prove to be pretty fun with the right people, he thinks. ]

Okay, so... that thing says I can move this piece here. I think.

[ So he starts with a knight - forward and over, just in front of his line of pawns. Here goes nothing?? ]
nerdeology: by <user name=earthenring> (honestly it's amazing he's not huge)

[personal profile] nerdeology 2016-11-12 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think so, yes.

[Mikleo likewise considers a move, spending a quick moment to ensure that it's a legal move, then goes ahead with it and we will assume it's a normal logical chess move because wtf is this game insert vaguery here.]

Are you a friend of Stefan's, or a visitor of the center?
deviances: (just confess - you cut me off)

[personal profile] deviances 2016-11-14 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
[ yes vaguery is good, awesome o/ ]

Friend of Stefan's. We met through Allen a little while back, kinda been hangin' out since. What about you?
nerdeology: by <user name=earthenring> (it's all the rock climbing.)

[personal profile] nerdeology 2016-11-14 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Same as you, though also because I help out here on occasion.

[Mikleo gestures to a corner of the room, where a little shrine is tucked up against a wall.]

That one's mine, technically.
deviances: (under the gun)

[personal profile] deviances 2016-11-22 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ He looks to the shrine, curious - he's of course never seen anything quite like that, but it's got such a mish-mesh of things, he can't help but find it interesting. ]

Oh hey, cool! Yours? Like, the one you use? Or are you sayin' you're like some kinda demigod?

[ Totally a legit question - he knows a demigoddess! (and is eternally grateful she is NOT HERE.) ]
nerdeology: by <user name=earthenring> (lailah's pies are amazing tbh)

[personal profile] nerdeology 2016-11-24 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's... a bit complicated, I guess. I helped put it together, but I don't worship there. It's a seraphim shrine. I'm a seraph. It would be self-serving if I used it myself.

[So yeah, they're kind of like gods, and it's super embarrassing.]
deviances: (throw your pitch and show your number)

[personal profile] deviances 2016-11-24 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh - a seraph. So, like Lailah. Right?

[ And given everyone else he already knows because of a Particular Thing That Happened, by process of elimination... ]

Wait, lemme guess - you're Mikleo?
nerdeology: by <user name=earthenring> (it's harder to make it on the road)

[Mikleo pauses, suddenly cautious; he doubts anyone's been very public about what happened, but he doesn't know who was told, and his memory of who was around after he changed is spotty at best. He's not sure what sort of reputation this has given him.

It's not like he can lie about it, though, so he finally shrugs.]

Yeah.
deviances: (i think you need a shotgun blast)

[personal profile] deviances 2016-11-24 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
[ Given what happened, he can't blame Mikleo for being cautious. Eithan hasn't been public with the info, of course not, but it's not like he knows if anyone else was. Besides, all of that had been incredibly hard for Mikleo and Sorey...

But when the answer comes, Eithan just smiles a little, and nods, knowingly. ]

Heh. Nice to meet you in person, then. I'm Eithan. I, uh... I met Lailah the same time I met Stefan - through Allen, when we were all goin' to help Sorey.

[ That... ought to explain it, right? ]
nerdeology: (we'd found it in the ruins earlier)

[personal profile] nerdeology 2016-11-24 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Clear as glass. "Help Sorey" can only mean one thing, phrased that way.

Mikleo's gaze drops to the table, toying with one of the chess pieces before moving it forward half-heartedly.]

I don't remember you. If you were hurt and I need to make amends somehow, you'll have to remind me of what happened.

[He's still not great at this, and he's grown so weary of apologizing, but he can't make light of what happened, either. Eithan doesn't look angry, but you never know.]
deviances: (who do you think you're defeatin')

[personal profile] deviances 2016-11-24 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
No, hey. No amends necessary. I swear. I'm really glad he's okay. Hell, that both of you are okay. And that's what matters, yeah?

[ He doesn't try to get Mikleo to look at him, especially if he doesn't want to, for any reason. But he does keep smiling - slight, but friendly. Hopefully reassuring. Whatever it takes. ]

But if you really wanna know what happened? I blew some shit up and Sorey knocked my ass into the mud. But we're cool.

[ ... please excuse him always trying to joke at stupid times. ]
nerdeology: (...then i'd have to tell him a dog died.)

[personal profile] nerdeology 2016-11-26 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Well... it helps, kind of. A bit. Mikleo's not looking so much like he wants to melt into the floor, at least.]

I'm... glad of that, I think? It's good that you weren't seriously injured, in any case.

[Or if he was, that it's not showing now. Mikleo tries not to ask too many questions about that time.]
deviances: (under the gun)

[personal profile] deviances 2016-12-02 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Hey, even a little bit is fine! And besides, that's a fun reaction~ He grins a little bit more. ]

Yeah, nah. Lailah healed me right after. It's really all good.

[ He moves another piece - a little more confident this time! Clearly he's feeling a bit more comfortable about things. ]

Never seen healin' magic like hers before... it's definitely not that quick in my world. And Sorey's really powerful, too.
nerdeology: (so i have a bone to pick.)

[personal profile] nerdeology 2016-12-05 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
Sorey's power comes from the Shepherd's pact. It's why he's able to command the elements, until... until Lailah broke it.

[He's still sort of uneasy about that day- he'd been absent, and a dragon, so he only has a second-hand account of the whole experience. It's not something anyone enjoys discussing, anyway.]

If you ever have need of healing like that again, all of the seraphim know curative artes of some kind.
