I haven't had much experience with spirits, but there are creatures on my world who speak more through emotion than words so I think I understand. Perhaps a spirit or even the planets themselves.

The planets themselves? You think they're sentient?

Considering I'm apparently on an interstellar, massively popular reality television show that no one has heard of? I don't think it's that far of a stretch to consider that the planets themselves could be sentient.

Yeah I don't know what I think about the tv thing. Not sure I believe that, but then where's the coin coming from?

[He shakes his head.]

Either way, I guess you're right. They could be sentient... That might explain the tree on the gift planet too. It didn't seem any more alive than a regular tree but--

[A thought strikes him.]

What if all planets are sentient and we just don't know how to talk to them?

[It's not necessarily a very smart thought, however.]

Or can even hear them! Think of all the things we could learn if we could talk to a whole planet!

[Did the brackets say something about smart?]
wolfehawke: (You're kidding)

[personal profile] wolfehawke 2016-12-06 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, well I didn't mean like...

Huh.

[It's certainly something to think about.]

Maybe next planet we come across we should see if we can reverse engineer a message like the one we got. Maybe a simple hello and broadcast it to the planet?

That would be amazing if we could figure out a way to do that! I mean, I'm not even sure where we'd start, but I think it's a great idea!
wolfehawke: (I see what you did there)

[personal profile] wolfehawke 2016-12-09 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Or we'll end up looking like idiots trying to talk to an inanimate rock in space, but I've never shied away from looking like an idiot before.

Yeah, but if we get a response we'd be geniuses. I think it's worth it. Besides, isn't that were most discoveries come from? People who others thought were crazy testing new ideas and making new discoveries?

I guess so.

[Geniuses is a bit much, but why not? It couldn't hurt.]

I'll start seeing if I can't piece something together, then.

And if I can help at all just let me know.
