[She came, she saw, she stole a bunch of stuff, she left. Makie isn't surprised by Lilly vanishing so quickly, and in some ways she thinks it's better-- these ships are too stark, too cooped up, for such a free-roaming child. She tells herself that. It's fine. It's fine.

It's not fine.

The broadcast is from Lilly's room, where Lilly's own things have gone-- leaving the leftover mess on the floor, bits of clothing, other stolen belongings. They're taken from across the Fleet, and Makie reaches down to tug a shirt free, folding it neatly. She'll organise this stuff. But she turned on the broadcast for a reason.]

If any of these items belong to you, please tell me. [Her voice sounds hollow to her own ears, and she pauses. Much quieter:] I'll arrange to get them back to you.

[She'll leave the feed on at least long enough for people to look over what's strewn around the floor. And then she'll stay in the room, sorting through the mess mechanically. It gives her something to do.

[Is that important??]

[Not really. Just her own curiosity. Fifteen was coming of age in her time, so. She smiles.]

Is there something you wish to do in life with the application of that skill?

Uh-huh! I want to be a hero back home, and earn a living by rescuing people!

That's quite admirable. Nobody will be upset with you if you do?

[Edo era and its restrictions, man.]

Upset...? No, not really. Mom and dad weren't sure at first, but they just wanted to make sure it was something I really wanted.

[They live in very different times, basically.]

I'm glad. Traditions are... very different, in my time. You would be frowned on. It's nice to hear that things have changed to that degree.

[Of course, in a version of Japan wherein so many have quirks, that might also have something to do with it. But everything she's heard about the future is generally a lot more, uh. Lenient.]

Ah... yeah, I remember.

[It's not like she's unaware of her own history - nor is she unaware of how the world tends to work depending on how and when you're born. Her class is still mostly male, after all.]

Things have come a long way, but there's plenty more to do! That's why female heroes are important- I want to be a hero for the next generation, too.

I assume your desire to be a hero means that there are people with these Quirks that are less savory?

[That's a delicate way to put it.]

Yeah, there's always lots of villains around, looking to cause trouble. Especially this past year- they've been attacking our school, too. It's messed up.

[Attacking schools seems to be the done thing in both times, it seems.]

Do they want something in particular, or do they just seek to prove their strength?

There's lots of different reasons. Some just want to steal and get rich. Some want to hurt people, or cause chaos on the world... I don't know. There's good and bad people no matter where you go.

I see. So your school will train you to be able to defend against those sorts of people?

[She's trying to understand. It sounds almost like it's military.]

That's right. We're the next generation of pro heroes! At least, we're meant to be. If we graduate and everything.

Heroes. [She smiles. She likes the idea of this school tbh.] What's required to graduate?

Haha... we're still learning that, to be honest. A lot of it is learning how to control our powers and use it in combat, and how to handle different situations, like how to rescue people in danger from buildings, or fires, or floods... all kinds of stuff.

[It occurs to her this is kind of akin to taking a fledgling swordsman into the thick of battle re: Max and slavers. The idea is a little uncomfortable, but it seems no harm was done.]

I would think you're doing quite well on that front.

[At least she was mostly doing evacuations rather than duking it out on the front lines. She's honestly faced worse at school.]

That's nice of you to say... I know I have a lot more work to do, and tons to learn, but I'm gonna work hard until I get there.

Good. [World needs more kickass women tbh. She smiles faintly.]

Are you the only one from your home here?

Ah...

[She fidgets, suddenly uncomfortable.]

Yeah, I... haven't seen anyone I know. Nobody I talk to knows what UA is, either. The name of my school, I mean.

[That's a shame. Especially when she's part of such a group back home.]

I'm sorry. I know how difficult that can be.

Well... I won't say it's been easy, but... everyone's very nice here. I'm doing okay.

They are, aren't they? I suppose being trapped here under the same conditions is at least good for us developing a kinship with each other. But by and large, I've found the majority of people I've met to be far kinder than those at home.

Yeah. We have a really good fleet. I won't say the Atroma are doing anything right, but they sure know how to pick 'em!
