[She came, she saw, she stole a bunch of stuff, she left. Makie isn't surprised by Lilly vanishing so quickly, and in some ways she thinks it's better-- these ships are too stark, too cooped up, for such a free-roaming child. She tells herself that. It's fine. It's fine.

It's not fine.

The broadcast is from Lilly's room, where Lilly's own things have gone-- leaving the leftover mess on the floor, bits of clothing, other stolen belongings. They're taken from across the Fleet, and Makie reaches down to tug a shirt free, folding it neatly. She'll organise this stuff. But she turned on the broadcast for a reason.]

If any of these items belong to you, please tell me. [Her voice sounds hollow to her own ears, and she pauses. Much quieter:] I'll arrange to get them back to you.

[She'll leave the feed on at least long enough for people to look over what's strewn around the floor. And then she'll stay in the room, sorting through the mess mechanically. It gives her something to do.

[She might have just thought Makie was cleaning up Lilly's mess if not for the tone. As it is Kitty moves through the ship to lean in the doorway.] She's gone?

[Makie keeps folding, a pile of neatly arranged clothing stacking on the bed next to her, head lowered to her work.]

Yes.

I'm sorry. [She's guessing it's not the nicest place to go back to considering her behavior.]

...Do you want some help with that?

[Well shit. The last time Misty and Lilly interacted, it involved a lot of shouting - mainly because Misty was scared of what Lilly might do with stolen potions. Now, hovering in the doorway and watching Makie clean up, she feels guilty.]

I'm sorry.

[Makie heard the shouting. Honestly, she thinks Misty was justified-- it's one of the things Lilly just has to live with if she's going to steal things from other people.]

It's all right. She's not going anywhere that's bad for her.

[She'll just miss her. :c My small feral child.]

[It's actually a beautiful place. Its only crime is that Makie isn't there. She'll get over it. She takes a breath, letting it out, and offers Kitty a wan smile. She's normally of the mind to do everything on her own. But.

Things change.] If you don't mind. She's... quite a messy child.

[She pulls out a shirt and folds it.] It probably made her feel safer to have the things around. [Most of it didn't look like items stolen for value.]

Ah!

[It's Miss Makie! Ochako's been meaning to follow up with her, actually. This seems like a bad time, but...]

That's a lot of stuff left behind... do you need any help organizing it...?

And she's insatiably curious. She filled my home with jars when I first met her. It didn't matter if they had anything in them, or were broken.

[Sam sees exactly what's gone on here —

And immediately, he considers the routine to making this easier.]

So... about those tea drinking meetings we were talking about...

[Maybe we should have one, huh?]

[Ah, Sam. The implied offer brings a smile to her face, brief though it may be. She keeps folding.]

I should finish here, and make sure everyone has their belongings returned.

...but once I'm done, I would like that.

But she's yours still.

Well, sure. Who doesn't like jars? [She looks over at Makie.] How are you doing? [First Ordis and Tenno, and then ~~Space Dad~~ their captain and now the kid? The Windrose is really taking the hits, but she knows Makie was the closest to the little girl.]

[The familiar voice gives Makie pause. She hadn't talked to the girl since Max's rescue, and she thinks she should have at least made sure she was okay.]

...hello again. I...

I wouldn't mind, actually. How have you been?

I've been okay. I meant to talk to you sooner, actually, I...

[Things have been kind of distracting. Anyway.]

What ship are you on? I'll come and help!

...yes. [She's upset. It's cruel for the Fleet to bring Lilly here and then take her away so soon. Makie's fingers curl around the cloth in her hands, shoulders sagging. In front of Misty, maybe it's okay to be honestly sad.]

She's mine. She gave me a reason to keep going. [She's found other reasons since then, by far, and knows that eventually, one day, she'll go back to Lilly and their beach-- but the overwhelming desolation that plagued her days before Lilly isn't so far gone.]

[He smiles sympathetically.]

It sucks, when people go...

I mean, she didn't like me. But.

[He chuckles, a soft sound.]

I'll see you. I'll have something good brewing.

[...she's not sure how to answer that. Rationally, logically, it's better for Lilly that she went home. It's not like Lilly will miss her with time working the strange way it does. Life goes on, they get their contentment.

But.]

I liked having her here. I'd only just grown used to the idea, and they sent her away again.

[That reminds her that Dean left, once again-- she hadn't even met him this time around. Sam knows this heartache well.]

We can drink to absent family.

...I'll message you when I'm done, Sam.

[Which can be taken as given. She'll meet him at the gardens in a few hours.]

I'm on the Windrose. [She smiles faintly. It's an attempt to be welcoming, though it doesn't quite meet her eyes.]

I'll look forward to seeing you, Ochako-chan.

Okay! I'll be right there.

[It's hard to gauge this sort of thing over the communicator, so she's hoping her presence won't be too invasive. They're not close or anything, but it's obvious that something's happened what with all of the piles of stuff.

At least she can try to cheer the woman up a bit. So she'll be venturing over in a little while, poking around in rooms until she comes upon the right one.]

Ah, Otono-Tachibana-san! I found you!

[.....holy crap that is a lot of stuff.]

[Without another word, Misty simply steps in and wraps her arms around Makie's waist. She feels a sort of protectiveness over Makie, which is ridiculous - Makie can more than defend herself.

Still though.]

They are... I think colossal assholes is the technical term.

[Makie has made a decent enough pile of folded clothes, though she hasn't touched the other knick knacks. Most of them are completely unfamiliar to her. She glances up at the arrival, and her smile is a little more genuine this time. She's had time to offload onto Misty. It helps.]

Hello. Welcome to Lilly's room. [And then with faint wryness, because that really is a mouthful.] It's all right to call me Makie.

[Makie isn't given to being emotional. Not with people she doesn't trust, anyway. She holds herself stiffly for only a moment before she loosens, head dropping down on to Misty's shoulder.

She doesn't cry, though the faint tremor in her frame shows how upset she is. The warmth is enough.]
