When: After the shuffle
[She came, she saw, she stole a bunch of stuff, she left. Makie isn't surprised by Lilly vanishing so quickly, and in some ways she thinks it's better-- these ships are too stark, too cooped up, for such a free-roaming child. She tells herself that. It's fine. It's fine.
It's not fine.
The broadcast is from Lilly's room, where Lilly's own things have gone-- leaving the leftover mess on the floor, bits of clothing, other stolen belongings. They're taken from across the Fleet, and Makie reaches down to tug a shirt free, folding it neatly. She'll organise this stuff. But she turned on the broadcast for a reason.]
If any of these items belong to you, please tell me. [Her voice sounds hollow to her own ears, and she pauses. Much quieter:] I'll arrange to get them back to you.
[She'll leave the feed on at least long enough for people to look over what's strewn around the floor. And then she'll stay in the room, sorting through the mess mechanically. It gives her something to do.

And immediately, he considers the routine to making this easier.]
So... about those tea drinking meetings we were talking about...

It sucks, when people go...
I mean, she didn't like me. But.
[He chuckles, a soft sound.]
I'll see you. I'll have something good brewing.

We can drink to absent family.

[Which can be taken as given. She'll meet him at the gardens in a few hours.]

[His chest aches something fierce, and he wants to curl up into himself and never leave his room. So he elects to drag himself to Makie and the garden, because if he doesn't, he's not sure if he'll actually get up.
He'll be there, already working at the garden at hand.]
[action.]
Much of the leftover junk wasn't claimed in the end, which leads her to believe Lilly had just collected literal junk. But she took the pieces that could be identified back to their owners and comes to find Sam, hands tucked into haori over her kimono today. It's like she's hiding behind layers.
She doesn't announce her presence, but instead watches Sam's efforts a little. (Watches Sam, besides. How's your health?) She's not hiding, so... there'll be just be some feet that catch his eye while he's trawling through the dirt.]

But it's not like Sam knows that. Dean's had a habit of dying often anyway, same as him. His brother exploding into bits to save the sun isn't something he questions even minutely, because Dean makes it a fucking habit.
His health is alright, on inspection. He's still a skinny-waisted fellow, all long limbs and upper muscle, and it's clear he's putting his all into focusing on anything but the crap brewing in his head. His brow is scrunched in deep focus as he pulls some annoying space-weed of sorts —
Oh.
Owlishly, he peers up at her.]
Oh, um — hey.
[His cheeks darken faintly. Had he been working long enough for her to sneak up on him like this? Wow.]

You looked busy. I didn't want to disturb you.
[action.]
Oh, no, I'm always busy if you look at it that way.
I have a hard time just relaxing.
[He smiles though.]
Speaking of relaxing — Relaxing?
[action.]
You have a hard time of it, yet you want to try anyway? [There's some soft amusement there. But. She lifts a thermos. Handy invention.]
I brought tea.
[action.]
Hey, you shouldn't give up on something just because you're bad at it, or you'll never get better. [He gives a little smile.] I have some cups around. They're nothing fancy for tea, though, sorry.
[action.]
[Some people thrive on stress. But assuming Sam actually wants to relax... well, tea is a good start.]
I never have need for fancy. It can be nice for the ceremony of it, but we're just two friends drinking tea.
[She finds a harmless patch of grass to sink down on to, placing the thermos on the ground in front of her. Friend still feels like such an odd thing to claim, but it's getting easier.]
[action.]
He sits down as well, formal but also covered in garden dirt, so.]
Must've been a hard day; m'sorry about that. Everything straightened out aboard the ship, at least? Do you need a hand with anything later?
[He saw that nightmare room.]
[action.]
...soon it will be like she was never here at all.
[action.]
But his expression falls slightly at the mention of the last bit. Because that's true - soon it'll be like Dean had never been here, either. People can remember, but those people don't last forever here either, and he'll just... vanish into the faceless crowd of people, too. And Sam hates that thought, especially for the Dean he had seen here. People need to remember him. He's going home to die; they need to remember.
He clears his throat, trying to make sense of senseless things.]
No. Makie... as long as you remember her, she'll have been here. You're proof that she was.
[action.]
You're right. And I suppose if I'm no longer here, it's because I've returned to our little beach, anyway.
[action.]
Just like... I'll remember Dean was here. As long as someone keeps going, we'll have the memories. The truth.
[He smiles, soft and sad, honest.]
Doesn't make it feel any less lonely, but... She'd want you to not be.
[action.]
...do you remember we had a tree, in Adstringendum. For memories.
[action.]
[Adstringendum is such a strange creature for him... Without it, he's not sure where he'd be... It was both a lot of pain and some of the most valuable moments of his life.]

...perhaps I'll look at growing a tree in my part of the garden.
