Hello everyone. I know this is rather sudden, but this Saturday I've rented out a space in the Hotel to hold a Holiday Party for the Fleet. It seems that a lot of worlds have celebrations around this time of year, and I thought it would be nice for us all to get together and share them, and just be able to enjoy each other's company in a space that feels less like a sardine can. Even if you don't celebrate anything, please come and grace us with your company.

The party will start at 7, but by all means come as you can. There will be a buffet and a bar - please get yourself a hotel room and not use the shuttles to go home if you do drink, by the way.

So come out and enjoy yourselves. I hope to see you there.

Saturday - The Party
<sub>[ The party is held in a large and spacious club-like space, but it is well lit and there is a mix of small tables and an open area for dancing set up. Music drifts over some speakers, with a pre-selected list already programmed in, and not so loud that one couldn't talk to your neighbor, but loud enough to sway to the beat if you desired. The space is decorated in tones of white and gold, a touch of festivity without really nodding towards any one particular celebration.

A bar is staffed by two of the hotel bar tenders and alcohol is plentifully stocked along with non-alcoholic choices. The buffet ran along one wall, piled with meats, vegetables, fruits, and sweets - everything to suit anyone who might come.

[Good time? That one's actually a bit hard to answer. He'd like to try but this isn't the kind of atmosphere he'd ever been thrown into before. Maybe he should have joined some of the other apprentices, he's sure some of them snuck out from time to time.]

As for getting home - working on it is generous, maybe. There hasn't been much headway made, I'm afraid.

Kind of? [Heh] I think he mostly just tolerates my curiosity.

[That's not entirely true, probably, but the incredible curiosity that Khadgar has must get on nerves pretty easily.]

I actually- we didn't really drink where I grew up. Except wine. [Drunk apprentices wouldn't be good.]

That doesn't mean it's something worth giving up on.

Oh, no. I wouldn't have given up anyway. I'm, unfortunately my instructors might have said, very stubborn.

_{[ Kirk nodded and waved the bar tender over, leaning in to make his selection for his new companion. It took a moment, but the bar tender came back with the approximation of a Shirley Temple, complete with a cherry. Kirk slid it towards Khadgar with a smile. ]}

That should be to your tastes.

Stubborn's not a bad thing by any means. It's exactly what's needed in this situation. But it's also good to have a realistic grasp as well in that we know essentially nothing concrete.

[Okay. It looks interesting at least. Khadgar takes the cherry and pulls it off the stem before trying the drink, looking at least a little cautious.]

It's not bad. [A little weird but look at who's only ever had wine in his life.]

I'd rather be stubborn and hopeful though. Nothing can get done otherwise.

Heh, maybe you're more the creamy-sweet type rather than sugary. Try a white russian next.

I'll be happy to go over what information I have, but it'll have to wait for another night. Tonight, we're celebrating!

Well, whatever they have that gets close to it. It basically tastes like chocolate, but with a kick.

Yes, that's right. On Earth, this is the time that Christmas is traditionally celebrated, along with some other holidays like Hannukah. Not on the same days, but in the same general area. And of course anyone else in the Fleet who has holidays from their home worlds around now is welcome to share with us and celebrate that too.

You know, so long as any necessary sacrifices are done with the pre-cooked chicken.
