[docking at the hotel had been something of a godsend. Originally he was going to attempt to cook himself, but with all of the restaurants at the hotel available, he opted to choose one of them instead. Likely for the best, because he wasn't the greatest cook.

He'd done his research, however, and the dinner - while nothing overly fancy - still had some traditional Christmas and Hanukkah foods - or at least, as close as they could get to them, all things considered. He tried, okay.

But it was a holiday dinner for the four of them, and that was the most important part. It was a first for their family, after all]

[he shrugs a shoulder, smiling]

I wanted to do something nice, that's all.

[exothermia]

Thank you. For putting it together.

[beathach]

Ah - you're welcome. [he doesn't feel like he did much at all, but] Thank you for coming.

[exothermia]

[His lips quirk slightly.]

I wouldn't have missed it.

[beathach]

I know. Still.

[exothermia]

The end of the month has come up faster than I thought it would.

[beathach]

Yeah, it did. Faster than I'd like, but -

[he has reasons]

[exothermia]

[Erik raises his eyebrows slightly at the comment, before dismissing it. He takes up the serving utensils and moves some latkes onto his plate.]

Don't tell me you've been enjoying yourself too much to notice the days.

[beathach]

I wouldn't say - enjoying myself, but I've been . . . occupied.

[he picks up his wine to take a drink] I'll tell you about it later.

[he's oh so casual look it that]

[exothermia]

[Erik watches his face for an unnerving few seconds, before he hums thoughtfully and goes back to collecting food for his meal.

Hank's attempt at being coy is curious, if slightly clunky.]

[Erik please it isn't clunky it's only mildly suspicious.

He awkwardly clears his throat and reaches for some food to add to his plate] How'd things go with your hotel room?

[exothermia]

[Ah, that. He waves his fork in the air, dismissively.]

I convinced them that I really did want the perfume turned off, and they complied. That was a week or two ago. It's been much more tolerable since then.

[beathach]

That's good to hear. Though I'm a little surprised they agreed to do it - they seem strict about some things.

[exothermia]

I may have implied that I would take things into my own hands if they didn't assist me.

[beathach]

I'm not surprised in the least.

[exothermia]

[He folds his hands on the table, with a look of faint exasperation at the establishment.]

You would think a hotel would be more agreeable to the customer's wishes.

[beathach]

You would think that, but it isn't always the case.

[exothermia]

I can't say I've stayed in too many over the years.

[Some, yes, but he rarely did more than check in and lay low. He visited hotels only a couple of times for enjoyment... he glances briefly at Charles, knowing some of them had been here.]

Certainly not one with this much selection in everything.

[he doesn't miss the glance, but pretends he doesn't see it, picking up his wine to take a sip]

Neither have I. This seems more like a resort to me than a simple hotel.

[exothermia]

[Erik grimaces, pushing his food around on his plate.]

I'd say it's more like a contained city, only it's all hotel-oriented.

[beathach]

Mm, or that. I imagine everyone who works here, lives here as well.

[exothermia]

They must. There's nowhere else to go other than the planet.

[beathach]

That's true. Speaking of - have you been down there at all?

[exothermia]

The planet? No - I haven't really felt the need.

[He had gotten a description of the planet below from someone in a cafe, and while it could be a potential change of pace... it doesn't sound as though there's much there. If he were honest with himself, he feels more of a need to recuperate in more comfortable surroundings after his misadventures on the last world.]

That's fair. [it was more the weather that turned Hank off to visiting than any other reason, though lately . . . then again, he'd have to go down at least one day for research purposes] I figured if any of us have, it would have been you.
