At the risk for earning a reputation as a party planner, I have a thing for everyone to attend again. Don't worry, lots of other people are helping pull it together. It's going to be on New Year's Eve, but the real event is the countdown to Winn's birthday which is also on the first. It's going to be in a club we rented out for this in the red shift district. Starts around seven-ish. Ends when you pass out?

It's kind of a surprise maybe? At least the part where it's for his birthday. And if you don't know Winn but you still want to come that's fine too. You can trade a gift for Winn for a free drink at the bar. Otherwise, bring some money. Cake's on us though.

[Birthday/New Year's Party]
[The space is well decorated and so glittered you can probably tell Wrath was part of the team putting this together. Lots of Winn's friends came out to help whether it was getting decorations up, managing food, music, or chipping in to buy out the space and a drink for anyone bringing a gift. Not to mention drinks for the birthday boy all night.

There's a table for presents and another one with a spread of openly available food though the bar has appetizers you can buy too. There's a big cake at one end because of course there is and some punch that didn't start the night spiked at least. There's space for dancing and a karaoke machine set up on a small raised platform for those who want to try their hand at entertainment.

The night really kicks off when Winn walks in and instead of a balloon drop there's a fluffy blue stuffed bear drop. Feel free to take one of those home. There are a lot.

When midnight comes closer some people will file out to one of the observation areas to get a good view of the nebula for the big countdown. Bring your own person to kiss!

[ birthday boy was under the impression he was coming to a regular new year's party. he told kitty his birthday months and month ago, and with all the present gathering madness of the holidays he kinda hoped it would fall between the cracks - turning 30 isn't something he's particularly excited about when he's surrounded by teenagers and people in their early 20s. he snazzed up for the occasion, but to get more in the festive drunken mood of the party (and to honor his friend), he also has on the hat wrath got him for christmas.

but how can anyone not love a birthday party that starts with a (non-lethal) plush attack?

you can find winn mingling, laughing, eating, and drinking - so much drinking - he will drink with anyone who wants to toast with him! if you've met him at least once, chances are you're getting hugged (and if you haven't and you play your cards right (or wrong, depending on your pov) - you'll get hugged too), and whoever you are, you're getting thanked. ]

[Winn has a lot of people to meet and greet so she doesn't spend the whole night at his side. She does spend a lot of it on the dance floor so you might have to dance with her if you get too close. Them's the breaks!

She'll also be snacking the night away and doing the occasional co-hostess thing of making sure everything is running okay. She isn't drinking much, but if someone gets her a drink what is she supposed to do? Just not drink it? Winn is rubbing off in some bad ways too! You might even find her in the hall having a smoke break and she really hasn't done much of that lately. One for her missing Remy? Another of the X-Men gone except he was never actually an X-Man back home. Those thoughts don't last long though and it's back to the party where she spends some of her down time playing quick card games at the bar. Maybe another tribute to Remy.

You might even see her doing a duet with Winn at the karaoke. He's definitely the worst kind of influence.]

[Not long after the teddy bear attack, Wrath bounds up to give Winn a hug.] Happy birthday!

[He had so many hugs to give and greetings to react to that after she phased her way out of the blue bears of doom she stayed on the sidelines to watch him enjoy his birthday surprise. It isn't long before she's finding him again, slipping her arms around him and kissing his cheek.] Surprised?

[He hadn't been sure what the "holiday" party had entailed, but a birthday party where a gift was required felt a little more straight forward to him. He walks up to Winn with a gift still in hand and a smile, glad to see the familiar face.]

Is getting hit by small stuffed creatures a birthday tradition on earth?

[You can't miss a friend's birthday even if that friend doesn't remember ever being your friend, right? Besides, alcohol! Mon-El will be over here at the bar if you need him. Even without powers given to him by a yellow sun (sir not appearing in this system) he holds his liquor well.

Actually, he'll be dancing too, and maybe trying this karaoke. He doesn't know the songs, but he'll do his best. ♪ I believe in a thing called love! ♪]

[New Year's Eve or Winn's birthday, Natasha doesn't mind showing up for both. She doesn't know him well, but their meetings haven't gone poorly, and she likes Kitty well enough.

Plus, it's not like she has anything better to do.

She'll drop off a gift at the bar in exchange for a shockingly blue cocktail, but for the most part, she spends her time on the floor. Anyone who comes too close might find themselves pulled into a dance. Do you risk it?]

[ he hugs back warmly!! ]

Thank you! [ if he smiled any wider, his face would split in two. ] Did you have something to do with this? [ he knows better than to think kitty's behind the sparkle fest. his best guesses right now are kara, pinkie, and wrath. he's guessing it's a mixture of all three which is just amazing to him. ]

-- yeah. [ she gets a proper kiss, as he rubs her back. ] I can't believe you did this - [ he should, but coming face to face with a concentration of all his friends' love is just overwhelming in all the best ways. ]

No, that one's just for the seriously lucky.

[ he should care that he doesn't know where he stands with mon-el yet. he really should. he doesn't, he's too happy to give a shit about possible alien feuds. so mon-el is greeted with the same happy smile everyone seems to be getting tonight. ]

[ risk: taken!

winn's dancing his way through the floor with a drink someone bought him - he's not sure what exactly it is, but he's had a couple, his spirit's high, and really he's beyond caring, it tastes good, whatever it is - when he finds himself occupying the space next to natasha. she gets an excited wave and a ridiculously happy smile. ]

[ Softly, quietly, a song winds up, a strange sound, on a foreign instrument, at once melachonly and stridenly brave and optimistic. ]

I am still working on it. [ Maglor says shyly ] But I wanted to thank you, Winn.

[ it takes him a moment to notice, in the general rowdiness of the club, but once his mind focuses on the strange sound, it's impossible not to focus on. it's so beautiful -- it takes the meaning of maglor's words a moment to register, too. ]

That was...for me? [ no one's ever written him a song, and definitely nothing near this beautiful! he's already feeling pretty damn choked up about this whole party, a song all of his own almost pushes him to tears. it does, however, push him all the way to hugging the elf, so enjoy that! ]

Oh, no, I only did some of this. So did Kara, Kate, Wrath, Cisco, people I'm not thinking of right now. You've got a lot of friends. [It's so good to see him this happy.]

This is insane, it must've set all of you way back -

[ renting the space and the food and the drinks and those decorations - the bears!! getting so many couldn't have been cheap - there are so many little details and he doesn't know how to even begin taking it all in.

he never imagined getting a party like this.

all those people are getting properly thanked too, but for now she's in his arms and he's pretty sure she's one of if not the chief mind behind this. after all, she's one of 3 people he even told about this. ]

This is amazing, you're amazing. [ she gets another kiss. ] Thank you.

[ Maglor flinches - an instinctive twitch when touched, although he forces himself to relax so swiftly that Winn might almost think that he imagined it ]

It... is your Begetting... ah, that is, your Birthday, yes? And... you bought me this - it ... I have nothing to give you in return. So...

[ He smiles at him shly ] I am glad you like it.

Worth it. [She can't really deny that though. His girlfriend is super poor right now after all those holiday gifts and now this? If others hadn't chipped in a lot of this wouldn't be happening. Hopefully the audience enjoys the party. She still has her jobs on the planet and hotel too. But Winn will need to pay for the hotel rooms for awhile or they'll need to head back to the ships. Tonight's room is taken care of though!

She kisses back warmly.] Want to open one of your gifts?

I'll keep that in mind. Merry birthday! [He holds out the gift. It is wrapped, but it's pretty obvious it's a bottle of something—a bright orange alcohol he found in the hotel. Kind of sweet and spicy. He thought Winn might like it.]

[ of course he'll happily pay for the rooms, and he'll happily pick up more work, if they need it. he's definitely not letting kitty miss out on sleeping comfortably because of his birthday - even if they'll have to play more room roulette. ]

...there are gifts too? [ he honestly didn't even notice the table, you mean the party's not the gift? ]

[ he laughs ] -- thank you. [ taking the gift, he unwraps it happily. (he should probably have this tested, right, make sure this isn't too potent for his weakling human body). ]

We should crack this open together sometime. [ look drinking alone is sad, and most of his friends aren't big drinkers/are particular about their drinks/aren't affected by anything weaker than superbrew. but depowered, they should be able to enjoy this together, right? ]

[ kate busts into this party and the on-lookers gotta ask: does she ever run out of pretty purple party clothes? likely not. tonight, she opts for flow. wherever she found this number, she's clearly comfortable. comfortable, and eager to dance.

(1) -- regardless of the genre or the pace, she can be found on the dance floor for at least two thirds of the night. she's half-grace and half-exuberance, inevitably hitting a point in the evening where she kicks off her heeled shoes and dances in her bare feet. oh, sweet dance partner, you'd better not step on her toes.

(2) -- did someone say punch? because kate's likely to be at least one of the people who have spiked it tonight. with a wink and a pile of credits, she buys a pint of god-knows-what hard liquor from the bar and proceeds to top up the punch bowl. if she's caught, she'll claim innocence until she's blue in the face. unless, of course, you'd like to help her spike the next round?

(3) -- well past 'midnight', she's still here. kate has two of the stuffed bears from the initial plush-drop during winn's arrival, and she has them both tucked under her arms while stretched across two chairs pushed together like a makeshift bed. drunk as a skunk, and evidently feeling cuddly, she slips in and out of little cat naps and sleepily-sung verses of auld lang syne. she's probably partied out, but clearly doesn't want to rush back to the blameless. ]

[Wanda looks a bit of sorts at this party. She's not really taking the initiative on mingling with anyone, and instead she's mostly been wallflowering about either by the food and drinks or in some corner of the room. She's not really sure why she decided to come. Since she woke up in the fleet (from her perspective, it being for the first time) and being more or less promptly told she's had her memories toyed with, Wanda has largely kept to herself. She's spent most of her time in her room or with Pietro. They'd explored the ship -- well, more like Pietro gave her the tour, but she'd otherwise not ventured about the Starstruck too much. Thus, it may be surprising for some to see her here.]

[Wanda is almost just as surprised herself. Both that she'd felt a kind of odd compulsion to accept the invitation to attend, but also that she apparently had a rather suitable dress for just such an occasion. At any rate, here she was in a fittingly scarlet-red dress with her hair appropriately teased somewhat -- adding some light curls to the end of its length. It was New Year's Eve after all. She wasn't going to come in just her regular choice of attire.]

[Despite the slight social discomfort she's feeling, Wanda's having a hard time compelling herself to leave. Instead, it's like she feels she should be here for some reason. Still, it wasn't enough to get her out from the fringe of the room. If anyone would like to speak with her, they'll have to be the one approaching her.]

[ huh. of all the avengers in all the worlds, here's one she didn't necessarily anticipate showing up at this party. which, kate realizes, is as true to form for romanoff as anyone's ever gonna get.

she catches her between dances -- at the punch-bowl, possibly? doubtless, someone as observant as natasha has already figure out kate's been doing a bit of spiking. but at the moment, she's merely pouring herself a cup and enjoying the fruit of her labours. ]

-- So what was it? [ kate smiles and picks the conversation up in media res. ] Ballroom? Jazz? Ballet? ...Tap?

[ a tilt of her head. she doesn't know what style natasha's been trained in, but she knows a learned dancer when she sees one. something about the posture; the certainty; the interaction with the music. ]

[The birthday boy was always at risk of getting dragged out for a dance. Perils of being the guest of honor.

Natasha smiles across her shoulder at him, smiling before she slides right into dancing beside him.]

How's the birthday boy's evening going?

[Hopefully neither of them will have to increase how much they work to make ends meet. No more ship upgrades for awhile though!] Winn, it's your birthday! Of course there are gifts. It's like you don't know how birthdays work. [She kisses him again.]
