Who: Ochako & OTA
Broadcast: Yes!
Action: SS Starstruck
When: At the start of January
[For once, Ochako's not using voice or video, bursting with energy; instead it's a simple text entry, no fluff or even an emoticon.]
does anybody have something happy they're willing to share
like, something good that happened to them, or a nice story
it's the new year, right? i wanna start fresh with good things.
[Ochako's sort of taking over the Starstruck kitchen, and making a bit of a mess of it, though unintentionally- she's all out of sorts, things are floating when she doesn't want them to, and her attempts at making something as simple as cake batter are not going as planned. Crewmates might have noticed that she's been quieter than usual since after Christmas, and it's apparently hit a breaking point.]

Re: [ text ]
Not in the way you mean, no. We have aliens instead.
[ text ]
[Trippy. So very sci-fi!]
Re: [ text ]
Yeah, more or less. We don't have many, but my Earth is part of the Federation of Planets, so major cities tend to have a mix of humans and aliens.
[ text ]
we have some people with quirks that might look like aliens to someone from another earth, but they're not aliens at all! so i just got used to it
Re: [ text ]
Quirks?
[ text ]
Re: [ text ]
super powers, huh? Do you have one? A quirk that is?
[ text ]
my power is zero gravity, i can make things float when i touch them
Re: [ text ]
Really? That's pretty interesting. Do you know how it works?
[ text ]
not really?? i mean i just do it, ive done it since i was little
Re: [ text ]
So you don't know the cause of these Quirks? I assume they manifest differently between people?
[ Sorry Uraraka, he's now on a curious science roll. ]
[ text ]
we learned in school that it was a sudden evolution in humans. kids born without an extra joint in their pinky toe either have Quirks or are gonna develop one by the time they're 4
most people have different Quirks but they're kinda generation-to-generation, like i got my floaty Quirk from my parents
Re: [ text ]
[ That was interesting, even if it didn't provide a full picture. He knew at least six other mutants aboard the ship, and it had been explained to him as unique evolutionary jumps. This seemed like that, and yet not - more all encompassing rather than gradual, which didn't make much sense. But at least it did seem to follow the hereditary part of things, so somehow genetics was involved. ]
That's interesting. I wonder why it's the pink toe that gets genetically sacrificed, so to speak. Does anyone ever come out with hybrid powers, so to speak?

Re: [ text ]
[ That did nothing to alleviate the strangeness of this conversation, but damn if he didn't want to talk to this person. ]
That is a bit more literal than I was thinking. So what happens if someone doesn't have this mutation?
[ text ]
oh well...
it's pretty rare these days for kids my age to not have it. nothing really happens though, they just don't have a quirk, that's all.
life might be harder for them i guess?
Re: [ text ]
[ Which suggested that there was a separation of class in some way. But then, it would make sense. If everyone had a Quirk, wouldn't society start creating jobs around said Quirks, favoring those with traits that helped complete jobs faster, or got better results for whatever reason? Someone without one would, indeed, most likely have to work harder to keep up. ]
Sorry, I don't mean to keep pelting you with questions - it's all just very interesting to me. We don't have anything like that where I am from. I don't think we've even run into any aliens that can control ice or fire!

[She could stand to pay a bit more attention in school, there's no denying that.]
Re: [ text ]
[ Some people just didn't get into the science of it all like he could. And that was fine! He would just have to go about asking different questions and learning what he could based on Uraraka was interested in. ]
What do you do with your powers in your world? That is - what are they utilized for?

Re: [ text ]
So I guess that means there's a good amount of people that use their Quirks to do bad things?
[ Sad, but not unexpected either. ]

So long as there are heroes and people wanting to help, things will turn out all right.

it's better to be optimistic than spend all your time worrying about the future.
