first video.
Who: Leo Fitz
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: on the Bishop
When: Jan 6th ; post-shuffle
[ he hardly had a chance to really look around the marsiva before he was transported elsewhere. the time allowed him to get his bearings, but mostly it allowed him a chance to calm down a little after what he just experienced with the whole... well, hydra. he's by no means past the whole ordeal but he feels like he can breath now, at least.
he halfheartedly looks around the bishop, trying to get a feel for the layout though not really entering any of the rooms just yet. except for the kitchen. that's where he sits down and pulls out his communicator ]
My name's Fitz. Leo - Leopold - Fitz. Is this really some sort of reality show? In space? [ and if so, why did they chose him? especially without simmons. at least if she was here they could properly appreciate the fact that he is on a ship in space right now. instead he's worried about her. and the rest of the team, of course ]
Quick question. Another question. Does shield mean anything to you? Not a shield, but just... shield.
[ and he ends the feed there. coulson, may, ward, any one of them would be much better at asking without asking. but they're not here! well actually he's not sure yet if they are. that's what he's trying to find out. at the very least, maybe this will point him in the direction of someone he can trust ]

it doesn't really make sense though, because the woman who looks like this is from before his time. she's older now, much older. and yet- ]
...Agent Carter?
[ -he says it anyway. and feels utterly ridiculous for it ]
video »
which makes her realize (with a measure of alarm) that leo fitz might not be trustworthy. but her name is a matter of public record in the fleet, so: ] -- You've got me at a disadvantage, Mister Fitz. You seem to know me but I don't know you.
video »
Oh, right. I suppose you wouldn't. [ if he can't talk to peggy carter about shield, who can he talk to, right? ] Agent Fitz. I'm a scientist. [ he puts a little extra emphasis on 'shield', mostly for his own benefit. he is shield. not hydra ] I'm an engineer for SHIELD, specifically.
video »
You recognized me. [ it's not the first time this has happened, but the other instances had more to do with the avengers than with shield. ] I don't know whether to feel flattered or unnerved.
video »
Without you, there probably wouldn't even be a SHIELD. [ and without shield, who knows where a lot of them would even be. he certainly wouldn't have simmons or the rest of the team in his life. he would probably be home, feeling completely unfulfilled and like everything he knows and everything he can do is simply going to waste.
and, of course, the hydra threat would be unchecked. they would have a rather uncontested victory. instead, they have dedicated shield agents to push back against them ]
video »
[ she exhales. ] Yet.
video »
It will though. It will and it'll be something I think you'll be proud of.
[ he says it as though he, himself, isn't at least some proof that shield happens. apparently he's not the only one though ]
Hadn't heard about it before you turned up here? Are there other SHIELD agents here?
video »
but fitz's question raises one of its own. ]
Rather depends. Was Captain America considered an agent of SHIELD? [ she knows at one point natasha would have been, but it's not polite for one spy to start gossiping about another.
notably, however, she uses the past tense. ]
video »
does it? ]
Was? He still is considered a SHIELD agent. [ wait... ] Is Captain America here?
[ the words come out quickly, as though speaking any more slowly will change the answer. it's exciting to think that there's an avenger here, considering the closest he's come before is seeing the mess they leave behind.
does fitz have to lie to captain america about coulson being alive if it comes up? because the avengers still think he's dead, don't they? ]
Why 'was'? Why wouldn't he still be one?
video »
He's here. [ so to speak -- although she knows for a fact he's relinquished the title ever since the spat between him and tony. ] He's aboard the Starstruck. As am I.
[ -- as for the second question? ] I rather think his place within SHIELD is something you ought to discuss with him. Not me.
video »
fitz blinks at the video feed as though he never considered discussing anything with steve, himself, as a real possibility ] No, yeah. Of course.
[ he hesitates a moment ] Where I come from, you're old, um, older. You're not as young as you are here. So does that mean time doesn't factor into who's here?
video »
but she keeps her poise -- even after he discusses her age. it would have been a terrible (wonderful) shock indeed, only steve has at long last let that spoiler loose upon her imagination. peggy even knows the year of her death: in a sense, it makes her giddy. 95 years is an awful long time.
but instead she remains calm and explains: ] When I was taken, the year was 1947. SHIELD, as I've heard it described to me, doesn't exist. [ and then, like an afterthought, ] However, the SSR does.
video »
95 years is a long time. fitz doesn't even know yet that she lives that long. all he knows is that she's still alive. but to have lived through and seen and experienced what she did, 95 years is incredible. he couldn't imagine knowing, though. were he in her situation, he's not sure he'd be a strong enough person to find out exactly when he died ]
1947? I suppose that was before SHIELD, wasn't it? You know, the SSR still exists in some capacity. [ it's odd to phrase it like that. because for her, of course it still exists ] It became the research division for SHIELD, and one of the old facilities became Sci-Tech.
video »
calmly: ] Some time before SHIELD, I think. What I know about the years that follow is restricted to what others have told me. None, apart from one, has had more than a tangential relationship with the agency.
[ because she would argue even steve's involvement has been a tangent. a few years, at best. ]
