don't fear the reaper

[The First Battle]

[They come shooting out of the great dark. Guns blazing, no warning. The enemy ships are ragtag, mismatched, and cobbled together from spare parts. But that doesn’t make them weak. No-- years and years of scavenging have turned them into raiders, and they carry their scars with pride.

The battle is more aggressive than previous attacks against the Fleet. Nothing deters the raiders because they’re tough, and if they see a wounded ship floundering, they have no problems swooping in and boarding. Those crews will soon learn the meaning of teamwork if they want to bring the attackers down. They infiltrate the Iskaulit as well, just in case people try to hide there. At this point they are very, very used to tracking down women and children for their slave trade.

If asked why they’re doing this, the answer is simple.

Spare parts have to come from somewhere.

Don’t worry. Nothing on your ship, and no one, will go to waste.]

[A Few Hours Later]

[The raiders are too strong and the Fleet is failing. After what seems like an eternity of warfare, static comes in, broadcasted to the fleet at large. Something or someone is hailing them…

The signal is untraceable and the video is complete static, but they tell the Fleet they are here to help. Ships come swooping out of the black and they open fire on the raiders. They number a dozen, maybe more, and the ships look eerily similar to the ones currently used by the Fleet, if not a bit older and battle-hardened. Their shielding and weaponry is much, much better, however-- and most of them have custom paint or other touches on their hulls.

They’re not invincible, however. A few may end up between a rock and a hard place when the raiders surround them.

Some older residents may remember this particular group of ships. They’re obviously helping out now, but there’s nothing stopping Fleeters from firing on their would-be saviors save a complete lack of weaponry. You do have a Security officer on board, don’t you? They’ll defend themselves by seriously injuring your ship, but they won’t destroy it for some reason. Small mercies.

The raiders soon realize they’re outgunned and jump ship, taking their dead with them. The intercepting fleet pulls back, too, and both parties vanish back into the dark as silently and swiftly as they came. There’s a lot of cleanup to do whether your ship is disabled or you’re preparing to tow someone else.

Hopefully, the people who saved you don’t change their minds.]

[An honest to god space battle? Katie probably looks more thrilled than she has any right to be, but she does this responsibly(ish) for now. She sends a message off to the Vanquish to tell them she's already dead, please bury her in the fox park (which might translate to I'm on the Iskaulit and fine to anyone who's put up with her long enough) and then throws herself into the action.

She's making her way in a general sense for the Space Bar to see if Sam's about. And by general sense, she's going to cheerfully throw herself into any situation that she feels needs a woman with a lightsaber to jump in and help/defend herself from attack/help someone get to safety.]

(OOC: Warning for violence.)

[Space Battle]
[Kitty has been doing some light working out in the cargo bay when she feels the ship rock from from the first hit. She's in the pilot's seat not long after, checking sensors and responding to the attack. It takes a little longer to realize Wrath is on the Iskaulit, leaving her in charge for now.]

We're under attack. Get to your stations!

[She calls the crew together and starts giving orders for contacting other ships like the Tourist to coordinate their efforts and for evading and advancing in turn on the other fleet. Space battles are new, but she knows how to work as a team and how to lead her piece of a larger team. She trusts her crew. This isn't their thing, but she knows they can handle it.

Still, it's clear the other ships are more experienced and have them outnumbered. It also doesn't help that they don't have an engineer on board to keep everything running in top shape during the attack. She trained with Vision on the systems, but without the augment there's only so much she can do. Plus, there's the piloting and the captaining to think of. As much as she wants to help all the ships in the fleet it's taking a lot just to keep theirs together.]

[Boarding Party]
[Space battles may not be in her wheelhouse but hand-to-hand combat with soldiers and droids who have a despicable purpose? That's her whole life. The moment the first bodies are transported to the bridge she is up and running one through with her extendable claws as he finishes materializing. The droids are easy. The moment she phases through them their circuits are scrambled. If she left it at that they might be operational again within a few minutes so she'll disable them further if there's time. If you watch her fight you might see some of the more gruesome things her powers can do—like fusing two living bodies into one dead one with a powered shove. She hasn't killed in years and yet there's no hesitation as she fights for their ship. And as worried as she is about her crew and Winn and other friends and ships there is still a part of her that's really enjoying the flow she falls into during battle. She hates killing, but she missed fighting.

She also can't be everywhere at once or solid and phased at the same time, so she needs you to have her back while she has yours!]

[Aftermath]
[The other fleets are gone. A checklist runs through her mind so fast it's overwhelming. They have to repair the ship, fortify their defenses and weapons in case they come back or they run into something else like that soon. She needs to make sure Winn is okay. She needs to check for injuries around her ship. They don't have a medic so she'll need to get Khadgar to teleport them to one or Kurt to treat minor wounds. They need to see if there are emergencies elsewhere she can still deal with like people trapped on a burning ship or something. There's just a lot and the adrenaline rush that got her through battle is making this part harder. She's not sitting until it's all done. She did manage to come out of it uninjured.]

[OTA HAVE FUN AND LOOK OUT FOR FLYING PANS]

[Jarvis is holding down the fort at the Iskaulit for a spell — when he takes note of some rather unsavory thrashing, crashing, and otherwise rowdy behavior down the hall. Peering out the door finds a very terrifying sight to be sure: people who are not drift fleet members, crashing through the Iskaulit and raiding the halls down the way for anything they can. Jarvis holds his breath and darts back into the bar, risking closing the door so that there is at least no sound as he pulls out his communications device.

These must be the cause of the explosive sounds earlier.

Miss Carter, there are men boarding the Iskaulit. Please take care that they do not board your ship! Warn your crew immediately.

The door thumps, and thumps, and Jarvis moves into the back room and swoops upon a pan. The three men who walk in are quite intimidating and block one of very few escapes; a royal pain, because he needs to get back to the Tourist and help the crew there as soon as possible...! He presses himself against the wall beside the doorway into the kitchen and waits.

And then slams a large pan into someone's face.

K.O.

His enjoyment is sullied by the fact that others have noted his presence and are swooping in. Angrily. Time to internally panic? Yes, quite.

"... Gentlemen, if you'll excuse me!"

He rushes to the back and starts the unholy ritual of flinging pans left and right against rushing attackers — get out of my kitchen, it says, only with a flair of anxiety. Thunk, thud, DING. He ends up getting grabbed by the collar and thrown rather unceremoniously out the door, against the bar table.

The comment about kidnapping certainly isn't good.

He kicks one man and finds himself kicked in return.

... That's going to bruise.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.]

[LOCKED TO PEGGY - !! ACTION FUNTIME GO.]

[Eventually (and perhaps after some defensive maneuvers with others unfortunate enough to be aboard the Iskaulit) he'll be skidding out into the hallway, only mildly battered all things considered, with men on his tail; four of them now, one of them with a large knot on his temple.

He whips around and puts his hands up, breathing heavily and hair askew.]

Surely we can work something out?

[The nose of a laser-powered gun is aimed at his head.

"Just realized, gentleman. You're not worth the hassle."]

[When the ships first attack, Tamamo's reaction is almost immediate- She throws her mirror through a wall (it phases through, luckily) and with a call of "Mantra: Aphotic Cave!", brings up a barrier around the ship.

... Which weakens the attacks, but doesn't stop them. The ship takes damage still, but not much, and on the other hand, it seems to be supercharging Caster herself.

Once the fire stops, though, her mirror reappears at her side, and she's going to be addressing anyone around.]

Well, then! Such insolence should be paid with proper punishment, don't you all agree? Hmph, it's almost irritating enough to bring out another tail.

[Once the boarding begins, though, she can also be found fighting off the attackers. Since she's under orders not to kill anyone, she's instead just beating the shit out of people with her mirror as a blunt weapon, and finishing them all off with a kick to the balls. Every single one of them. With a vengeance.]

[Dammit, he knew those blips were suspicious. It's the whole reason he stayed on the ship more often than not, just in case his suspicions were confirmed and something went wrong. The moment the alarms go off, he's glad he decided to stay, and feels a sense of dread because, well, he's only human, and this is another battle he has to keep his crew safe from.

The enemy ships don't look like the ones who attacked them, but Clay can only give that a sparing thought before he takes the pilot's controls, familiar as always, to start up evasive maneuvers. As he does that, he'll flip on the intercom to call out to his crew.]

Everyone, we're under attack! Get to your stations and help however you can now!

[After that, he'll primarily stay in the pilot's seat to out-maneuver enemy fire, though even he can't dodge everything.

When they're boarded, probably because they're one of the stronger ships and need to be taken out, he still stays there, though he'll move if he has to. Someone's got to make sure the ship stays in motion.]

( SPACE BATTLE )

[ When it begins, Hermione is in the lab - where else would she be, really? The suddenness of it shocks her, at least at first, but then years of practice hit her like a freight train; suddenly she's on red alert, pushing herself up and gathering her things, pushing them into her bag and starting to head out. Her first priority is her crew and that's what she focusses on, grabbing her device and sending a message before anything else happens. ]

Something's gone wrong. If anything happens let me know - I have enough potions to make sure we're all safe before we even think about helping anyone else.

[ She's already setting things up, making sure she has enough of everything and changing her clothes from her traditional space outfit to what she woke up in all those months before - something that covers her properly and has her ready, a little bit better than restricting jeans. ]

( BOARDING PARTY )

[ After a little while, Hermione feels a little... Sorry for the people trying to attack the fleet. Most of them appear to be regular people, or, rather, regular humans, and she doesn't get the impression many of them are used to magic or extreme talents like some of the people on the Fleet have. They're scarred and dangerous and they remind Hermione of some of the native folk in the Drabwurld, desperate and having nothing to turn to... Or choosing this path because it's something they enjoy.

Drabwurld training kicks in fast enough, however, despite how long it's been since she was there. She doesn't have her sword or her rapier but she has a wand and she has herself, as well of the memories of being taught how to punch properly by her friends. It's enough to keep her head up and she doesn't feel as though the ship is in too much danger of being completely overwhelmed. It doesn't mean she won't say no to a little help - or, if someone needs her, she'll abandon her post and head back without hesitation, especially if healing is involved.

Sometimes she's a lioness, sometimes she's herself; it depends how well she can fit within the walls of the ship and the attackers themselves.

Being good at fighting - not amazing, but enough to show her experience - doesn't stop her getting a few cuts and bruises herself, and she takes some time to pause and check herself over before she rushes back in, though maybe not as much care as she might give to someone else. ]

( BROADCAST / AFTERMATH )

[ Once her ship is mostly secure - seemingly with minimal damage, and she's glad for that - Hermione turns her attention to all her friends that are on other ships. She sends out a public broadcast, open to all the networks, not too concerned if the raiders can hear her. Let them; she's not exactly afraid. ]

If anyone needs extra help or any medical supplies please let me know. I can try and travel between the ships as best I can and bring potions and myself for help. I hope everyone is safe.

[ Hermione frowns, tugging at her and drawing her close, searching the other woman up and down. Breathing a huff, she shakes her head, focussing her attention on the other woman. ]

Don't kill them, alright? We can't - we're better than they are, raiders trying to kill and kidnap us. If we go around murdering people... [ She hesitates; it's hard to find the right words when it feels like hypocrisy. ] It's not right.

[ Hermione doesn't waste time trying to make her way to the pilot's seat - she has no idea what she's doing in that regard and she knows she'll be more useful outside actually doing something - but it doesn't stop her worrying. She turns her attention to her communication device, picking up Clay's alert not long after her own, breathing caught in her chest. ]

Let me know if anything happens, or if you need supplies. I'm going to do what I can to make sure they don't get too far into the ship.

[The other (trendier) bar has not escaped unscathed either. Raiders have descended upon it, tables and chairs have been broken and upended. The jukebox has been taken, leaving wires and an empty spot from where it was torn from the wall. The pole (that may or may not have been a stripper pole) near the dancefloor is also absent. There was still a few raiders causing trouble, trying to pull out booze or the various hispter-esque decorations about the place.

Should you arrive after Crowley does, things will be slightly different. The demon can be found strolling around the mess of his bar, making complicated gestures with his hands. As he does, broken fixtures mend themselves, broken bottle of booze reform, taking back their liquid as they do so. Any raiders are frozen in spot, as if the demon has added some very creepy mannequins to his establishment. Except the eyes move if you go near them and they look scared as hell. (Or maybe AT Hell). Regardless, the demon ignores them, continuing to move around the bar, mending what he can. Any raiders foolish enough to come to the bar find themselves frozen in spot just as soon as they cross the threshold. He's creating quite the garden.

Crowley, incidentally, can also be found in the library, giving ti the same treatment as his bar. Mending what he can, and keeping the remaining raiders frozen in place. He looks far less annoyed about the destruction of the library, but he still restores what he can with considerable care. He might not care for the place, but it means a lot to Felix. So he'll make some effort.
