I don't mean to chase you away now. I had assumed you would return to the ships eventually, that's all.

I mean, I will. I just like being on land at the moment. Away from the battles.

I usually come down to the cities and villages outside of the ships where I can. The ships are... not for me. Not for you either, it seems.

[ He doesn't know yet so he shrugs. ]

Maybe I just need some time.

Maybe. I don't really have much of one anymore.

[She gives a thoughtful hum at that.]

Before I was taken from Japan, I'd given up on having a home there. But I find I'm comfortable where I am, and I found a small beach I can call my own. I'll return there one day.

If you have little to go back to, perhaps the same will hold true for you.

My village is a nice place. It's full of kind people.

But it's not the same anymore.

[That cements for her the loss.]

...this, too, is familiar. It's jarring that this conversation highlights to Makie how she's changed. But she doesn't challenge it. Instead, she smiles.]

Sure. It doesn't change much in its melody though.
