I'm glad she passed her teaching on to you. It's a legacy of sorts, isn't it?

You're correct, though. In taking what made her happy and continuing to bring it to the world.

I would enjoy playing together with you, Kubo. If you've a mind to do so.

[ He nods. ]
I don't mind.

I will not be returning to the ships for a few days. But my friend Misty is on the Windrose. I'm sure she'd love to meet you in the meantime.

[ His good mood slips away a little. He's sure that there are nice people on the Fleet but he isn't that keen on seeking them out just yet. ]
no subject
I don't mean to chase you away now. I had assumed you would return to the ships eventually, that's all.

[For different reasons this time, but.]
I usually come down to the cities and villages outside of the ships where I can. The ships are... not for me. Not for you either, it seems.

Maybe I just need some time.

...do you wish to return home? [Some don't. For good reason.]

Before I was taken from Japan, I'd given up on having a home there. But I find I'm comfortable where I am, and I found a small beach I can call my own. I'll return there one day.
If you have little to go back to, perhaps the same will hold true for you.

But it's not the same anymore.

I'm sorry.
It's hard when things... change. [Carefully neutral. He hasn't told her outright.] And this place, too, must be overwhelming in such quick succession.

[ His hope and belief has yet to be extinguished. ]

I'm glad to hear it.
You were here for the fighting, weren't you? [If it's been a few weeks.] We're usually more peaceful than that, so I would hope you have more time to find your feet.
[At the very least, she hopes the attack was an anomaly.]

[ Not from the way everyone reacted. It was still jarring though. Kubo would have liked some warning. ]
But I'll get by.

...this, too, is familiar. It's jarring that this conversation highlights to Makie how she's changed. But she doesn't challenge it. Instead, she smiles.]
We all do.
That last piece of music you played-- would you teach it to me?
