Is that a good idea when we're in the air?

[ Still he carefully takes her hand. ]

[willynilly]

[She gives him a tug, trying to pull him along. She won't drag him or anything, but she's pretty firm about it.]

Don't worry! If we happen to fall, I can just make us float! It'll be totally safe, I promise!

[shamisens]

[ Oh, that's right. He instantly brightens. ]

Okay. I think I might have some money.

[willynilly]

If you don't have enough, I don't mind paying. I know you're new and all, and I have some saved up.

[She's still trying to be thrifty with buying only the essentials, but the occasional treat isn't going to break her bank. She's not used to having this much disposable cash.

Marching right up to the man in charge, fishing out her wallet.]

We'd like to rent a board, please!

[shamisens]

[ Wow. He's kind of impressed by her attitude as Kubo hangs back. When they hand the board to Ochako, he grins. ]

[willynilly]

[Ochako listens dutifully to the man's instructions, lifting the board curiously to see where all the controls are supposed to be, where to place her feet, all the important stuff. Once that's done, she gestures for Kubo to follow her with a grin, guiding them away from the rental place and into an open area for testing the boards out.]

Let's see... the best way to try something out is to just go for it, right? So we'll go! You just- put your feet like-

[She sets her feet where she was told, then points just behind her.]

If you stand there, we should balance out okay! Hold on tight to me and we'll be fine.

[shamisens]

[ Kubo dutifully follows Ochako's instructions before looking back at her. ]

Like that? Can we start?

[willynilly]

Yeah! Okay... here we go!

[She leans in, activating the board, and they hover off the ground for a moment before firing forward, probably a bit too fast. It's a lot harder when you don't know what you're doing.]

Gah!! S-slow, how do you slow...!?

[shamisens]

[ Kubo clings, panicked. ]

Is there a button?!

[willynilly]

Um- um--!!

[She hastily smacks her heel down a few times, trying to experiment without losing her balance. They wobble about in the air for a few harrying sections before it finally slows down to a reasonable pace.]

...Whew. That was, ah. Way faster than I expected...

[shamisens]

Are you sure we can't fall?

[ The skepticism isn't really directed at Ochako's ability but even Kubo is a little shaken. ]

[willynilly]

It's okay, really! We just... we need to practice more.

[She gives the board a lighter tap with her foot, steering it forward again, with a bit more ease.]

Ah... see! It's fine...

[shamisens]

[ Some of Kubo's apprehension melts away. ]

Can it go higher?

[willynilly]

I think so... let's try it!

[She gives the board another careful tilt, and it lurches upwards, too fast at first, but she leans back again to slow it down. Not going to make that mistake again.]

Hah, wow! Up we go! How high do you want?

[shamisens]

Maybe just above the trees?

[ After that last shake up, Kubo isn't trying his luck. ]

[willynilly]

You got it!

[She follows his lead, flying the board up over the treetops, arms out to help keep them balanced, and circles around them to take in the sights.]

Oh, wow... this was a good idea. It looks amazing from up here!

[shamisens]

[ The wind ruffles his hair and he can't help smiling. He's flown twice already but both times had been marred by the situations he found himself in.

Perhaps someday he'll try it again. Just for fun. Just like this. ]

[willynilly]

[Ochako flies them about freely for a while, pleased by their success and also by how much fun it is, until finally she flies them back close to the ground, hovering just above it, and glances back.]

Hey, you wanna try taking point? It's really cool!

[shamisens]

[ Kubo nods. ]

Sure.

[ He tries to sidle to the front, keeping one arm splayed out to manage his balance. ]

[willynilly]

[Ochako tries to help him keep his balance, setting her hands on his shoulders and leaning in, pointing forward.]

Okay, chaaaaarge!! You can do it!

[shamisens]

Yeah!

[ They're charging! Though Kubo doesn't know where, so he simply angles the board forward, and mayyybe takes it a little higher as well. ]

[willynilly]

[Ochako tries not to bounce eagerly in her spot, mindful of the tentative balance on the board, but it's hard when riding it freely is more exciting to her than steering it around. She surveys the area then points downwards, eyes wide.]

Ahh, look! That huge tree, with blossoms on it! Can we get closer?

[shamisens]

I think so.

[ Tilting the board slightly, Kubo edges closer to the cherry blossom tree. Petals float over them and Kubo's breath catches. ]

[willynilly]

[Ochako gasps quietly behind him as they fly through it, reaching one hand up to brush through the falling petals, keeping the other hand on his shoulder for balance.]

It's soooo beautiful! We should pick flowers, for the ships!

What would we do with them though?
