And I'll have you know this is exceedingly comfortable for me. [Referring, of course, to his unique approach to using chairs.]

[ His brow crinkles. That's far too much information as far as Jean is concerned. ]

That's right, you've met Wagner by now. Has he started skittering across the ceiling yet?

Not yet. He's still warming up to the school.

[ Considering where Kurt used to be, it's a large bridge to cross but he'll manage because the X-Men will look out for him. ]

It took me a while as well. I wasn't used to being around so many people.

Mm. It usually takes most of them some time to settle. But he's an X-Men.

[ And that commitment means he'll be fine. ]

[Kurt smiles softly, oddly proud.]

Best decision he'll ever make.

I don't think he had a lot of options to choose from. But I'll take your word for it.

[ He wonders. Kurt is very different from this one, but some things don't change that much. ]

Of course.

[Kurt opens his mouth as though to say something, pauses, and instead chuckles hoarsely.]

It's funny. This might be the longest civil conversation we've ever had. [He's going to punctuate that by draining his glass.]

Does that bother you?

The reason bothers me. That it took this long bothers me.

[Kurt pauses, takes a slow breath.] I'm not.. used, to talking with people who didn't live in a world like mine. I'm too harsh.

[axiomed]

[ His expressions softens. ]

I'm not bothered by it. People not liking me or being comfortable with me . . . is normal. And sometimes, these things take time as they're meant to.

It shouldn't be normal. Call me a ridiculous fool, but I'd always hoped that in the world we tried to make, it wouldn't be so.

I don't see anything ridiculous about it. But the world starts with the person. Being treated that way isn't indicative of the world. Just the change that will happen in time.

[Kurt smiles faintly, takes a moment to refill his glass.]

I'd call you an optimist, but I've seen it myself. First woman I ever loved was raised in Apocalypse's camp. After she saw that the world we fought for was possible.. we couldn't have brought him down without her.

[ After all, Erik had broken free as well. If that's not hope, then what is? ]
