Iskaulit mingle
Who: Anyone!
Broadcast: No
Action: Iskaulit
When: Feb. Drift Week (and beyond?)
[The fleet, more or less patched up after their battle, has once again left civilization behind for empty space. Maybe it's a good time to distract yourself and get away from the endless repairs and nothingness, though there might still be cleaning up that needs to be done here too.
Whether you're grabbing a broom or grabbing a drink, this is a fleetwide mingle for the Iskaulit.]

I get that a lot. You must be from a more future-y world, then. Is this space travel thing normal for you?
[The drinks are soon delivered and Anders doesn't waste any time taking a small sip from his.]

Well, I suppose. It's funny...[He pauses to try a sip himself, nodding in approval before he continues]...I was just thinking before you came up, that the other bar across the hall is a lot closer to what I'm used to. You know...lots of light and metal and music. I should probably feel much more at home there. But this place...well...rustic is a good word, I guess? You might be still be able to find dives like this back on Earth, but you'd probably have to really go looking. But this feels a lot more like home to me. Is that weird?
no subject
I guess a bit, I certainly wouldn't have guessed that. You could call it a personal quirk?
For me, this is more like what I'm used to, but I spend a lot of my time in the other bar and hardly ever come here. However, that has far less to do with the atmosphere and far more to do with the people in each respective location.

You could say that. The cook here isn't so bad, but one of the waiters...he's simply awful, I can't even describe it.
[If only because describing ten years of hatred that was slowly, slowly turning into something that might someday look like understanding was not something that could be described.]
Now, Malum might not have this cozy atmosphere, but management's alright, despite what he likes to think, the tarts are to die for and are made by a spirit and the bar's tended by a couple of very attractive individuals.
[One of them perhaps a bit more than the other in Anders' perfectly biased opinion.]
But I suppose that's the point, both places have pros and cons.

I might have to give the other place a look sometime, then.

[Even Anders the Workaholic found himself running out of work to do roughly a day or so after leaving whatever port they stop in. The drift week often resulted in a lot more relaxing and hanging out around Malum than usual.]

[He's not really gotten better at getting used to the uncertainty of it, he's just gotten better at not mentioning it]
How long have you been here?
no subject
[Turn 'train' into 'work' and Anders was in the same boat.
Kaiden's question earns a look of uncertainty.]
Well...less than a year, I'm certain of that, but I suppse that year must be coming up now. The months here are different than the months back home, I'm still getting used to that. At least six months, though.
What about you? I admit, I don't just start talking with strangers often, you could have been here for twice as long as me or just shown up yesterday and I wouldn't know the difference.
no subject
About three months...and I'm only just coming in for a drink. Crazy, right?
[Which is a very lame joke, and he shrugs his shoulders awkwardly]
I guess I've been a little focused on trying to find a way out.
no subject
[He took a sip from his drink and coked his head to the side in curiosity.]
You know, that's probably the most practical response to this whole thing I think I've heard. Most people have simply accepted they won't find a way out. It's admirable you're still trying.
no subject
Admirable? Maybe. I've been told I'm stubborn, so maybe that's closer to the truth. I don't know how hard I've tried, knowing there's someone out there with their trigger on an off-switch in my head.
