[While the Fleet was mostly in dry dock at the last port and the Three Twins was getting an overhaul at the expense of basically the entirety of Wolfe's coin (and that of who knows how many other people), Adalwolfe started getting back into studying, tinkering with things, and just generally tried to move on from the whole ordeal. Sort of. He still holds a heavy curiosity over the assistant fleet that helped to chase off the bandits and tried to send a message to that frequency discovered while tinkering with the wire tap device.

The very next day finds him as a human whirlwind in the library on the Iskaulit. He's not a stranger to the place of course, far from in fact since he's been trying to learn on and off the things he felt his magical education was lacking in while growing up, but today he is a veritable force of nature. Anyone who walks in can find him practically buried under stacks upon stacks of books on every subject. Mostly magical but many mundane, including a guide to SQL coding and a large yellow and black tome titled Feng Shui for Dummies. And is that...? No there couldn't be porn in Felix's library, right?

Adalwolfe himself is speeding through the books at a breakneck pace, eyes working like a typewriter as he stamps the words into his brain. Of course, his time with each book doesn't last very long before he reaches for the next one that's maybe tangentially related but certainly another thing he wants to learn. He'll get back to the previous book later. He's done this upwards of 40 times now and books are scattered to open sections on a dizzying myriad of topics. Every so often he stops long enough to type things into his communicator, the result of which can be found on the network several hours later...]

Hey fleet!

[Adalwolfe looks entirely too bouncy for his 35 someodd years of age and the way he talks is with a much more rushed pace than normal, as if he can't get all his thoughts out fast enough.]

I've been doing a lot of reading here in the library and I wrote this thing about magic that I'll upload for you here in a sec or right now might be better so you know what I'm talking about so here--

--because you know everyone who does magic here does different magic unless they're form the same world and so it's really interesting to share it all and find out how its related and how it can be classified together because what's considered magic in some places isn't magic in others like enchantment back home isn't magic because Dwarves can do it and everyone knows Dwarves can't do magic because they're resistant to it but enchantment is magic in other places and I don't know why but I still think it's very interesting.

[Oh, there's the end of the sentence. Take a breath.]

If anyone has anything they want to add I'll be glad to add it to the thing so that it has as much information as possible and maybe it can help us all learn from each other or find out how different things work for different worlds though I really don't think anyone should be doing a couple of these like necromancy or blood magic because those require dead bodies that'll stink up the fleet or just really dumb decisions like talking to demons - and I mean Thedas demons, not demons like some of you here because all the demons and spirits I've met here in the Fleet are totally fine and I don't think they want to take over anyone's bodies or anything like that so basically no blood magic or anything but if we practiced somewhere safe then elemental magic and making potions to help the fleet could be a lot easier with more than two of you doing it, right?

[Another breath.]

I also think there's something going on with those devices we found awhile ago because I messed with it again and then this morning I just couldn't stop reading and writing things down like about magic but about other things too like coding and sewing and dragons and did you know the library has a distinct lack of dragon books? Felix we need more books about dragons because dragons are awesome and I really think lacking them is depriving the whole fleet.

[At least he's aware there's something weird going on with him, even if he keeps getting distracted by his own brain.]

I'm fine everything's fine there's just a lot to do and catch up on since we spent the past while fixing things or well the engineers at the station spent time fixing things I mostly just took a bunch of jobs so I could pay for the fixing of things but now things are all fixed and I can actually try and catch up on this studying about things like did you know that a lot of different worlds have basically the same ideas and cultural references as many others but we just don't think to talk about it?

[Breathing. Yup. That's a thing.]

And also there's a lot of romance books in here that I missed out on before so I'm glad I looked because I finished that one that Vash gave me.

I have noticed, though... how many books have you read? Because it sounds like it's been a rather lot in a very short space of time. Perhaps you should rest for a while?

Yeah I feel like I have a lot of energy but not like Grey Warden energy something else so I think there might be something going on but really I'm just going to take advantage of it for now since I can't think of anything to do about it and the advantage is that I am getting a whole lot of reading done which is good since I have a lot of time to catch up for. Did you know my father was not the best teacher? I mean he tried definitely and Bethany and I did learn basically everything we did from him before we had to start figuring everything else out for ourselves but he wasn't very good at all this book stuff like how or why things work or classifications or anything like that even if he was quite good at actually casting spells creatively so I know I definitely got that from him but the rest of it wasn't even in his journal just spells he liked or thought were useful and a lot of doodles in the margins of dragons and dogs and there's this one of him zapping some guy in a robe who I bet was one of the Enchanters in the Gallows at the time when he went there so I think I get my art skills from him too and by that I mean poor drawing talent.

Even if half of the stuff is going over her head (it's not that hard, considering she's short and also kind of dimwitted), there's a lot of words she recognizes. ]

For example, you don't have to be a spirit medium to speak with a spirit.

What is it with demons in the fleet? Maker's balls. But no, he should give her the same benefit of the doubt that he gave Crowley. Right. Besides, she's trying to correct what he's come up with here and while he's not actually against that as a rule, she's nit-picking in a place without nits.]

I know that but a spirit medium is better at it since that's their field of study and anyone who studies a thing is going to be better at that thing than people who don't spend all their time on that one thing.

What do you want to know about magic? I was a witch for Halloween once. [ It's such a childlike exclamation that there's no way she can be serious about it... except she is. Turned an entire torture palace into a place full of tricks and treats.

Either way, she sounds confident in her abilities. ] I don't really understand it, but that stupid cup gave me more than I ever needed to know. You're a sorcerer, but your definition of sorcerer is different than where I come from for example.

Uhh I don't think dressing up as a witch once means you're an expert on magic and what cup are you talking about? What's your definition of sorcerer? I'm curious about all the similarities and differences between different worlds like in some places only some people can be mages but in others anyone can be a mage with enough study which I think is pretty incredible and I have to wonder if that means there's no wars between magic users and non-magic users like there are on worlds where only some can do it also the Earth word for non-magic user is Muggle which I think is just silly and adorable and I might start using it.

[Part of the reason Adalwolfe is doing this alone is because Anders shooed him away, unable to handle his heightened energy levels. Only that enormous smile tells him that perhaps things have changed since this morning.]

You could come meet with me there's a lot of books on potions and things though I think this library lacks a guide on phallic tubers.

[Excuse him while he waggles his eyebrows suggestively.]

[He couldn't really explain it. Just a bit ago, he'd been so exasperated with Hawke, he'd tried to put the mage to sleep with some entropy magic, not that it had worked. But now he was just content with everything. No, more than that, he was down-right happy with just about everything going on right now. It was certainly a strange feeling, though hardly unpleasant.]

How unfortunate it, nothing is complete without phallic tubers.

Even if I'm talking so much? You did kick me out of your lab this morning you know because you said I was getting too much in the way and you couldn't think though I really don't see how my being in the way is any different than usual.

[Even so, he's actually making an effort to speak in smaller bursts so as not to annoy Anders. Adalwolfe was actually quite put out at being kicked out of Anders' sight that morning. He did run off all the way to the Iskaulit after all.]

But yes come and see me I miss you and maybe you can help me with this document I feel as if I'm probably missing things and you know a lot more about this sort of thing than I do though I have learned a lot with all these books.

What at half past eleven? It's really too late to still be sleeping you know if you sleep too late then it makes it harder to get up at all and then your whole day is gone being lazy in bed but I guess since the ship is all repaired now and you don't have a job really there isn't much reason not to laze around in bed now is there.

Yeah I put it on there actually under transmutation because that's for turning things into other things and that's exactly what your alchemy does and it entirely feels like it uses mana to make it work so I really do think your alchemy is magic even if they don't call it magic where you come from.

[Felix, of course, takes a little while to browse over what Adalwolfe has written with avid interest, and make a few notes, before he chimes in with a response. He is, yes, mildly concerned, but he won't waste the opportunity of discussion.]

Adalwolfe, I hardly know where to begin. I suppose to start, in defense of the Iskaulit's collection, my lack of dragon books, as you call it, is directly a result of people not supplying me with said volumes. So, in essence, you are depriving yourselves. [Don't blame him for his library. He only has so much money and people keep buying fiction]

Secondly, your notes here are a very good start...I have not heard of almost half of these...but it could certainly use some refining. In some places your terms are far too broad and in others too narrow. For example, hydromancy is absolutely a type of magic in my world but it doesn't involve conjuring water at all, merely working with and through the substance.

Well I'll just have to get books on dragons when I see them then not that I don't already but the collection is currently at zero since I haven't seen any besides the ones that got left behind in Kirkwall and as for my terms I'm only working with what I've got here but hydromancy as I understand it is any magic dealing with water so even if you're just moving it around or giving to magical properties its still hydromancy though enchanting water is enchantment so would it be hydromancy-enchantment or hydroenchantment or something else entirely? I don't know see I'm having trouble with things that could be more than one school of magic since some stuff can be one or the other or work both ways or something.

That is precisely the problem with terminology, because there is often divergences in similar words from world to world. Hydromancy is simply one example. Which, by the way, you have classified under conjuring so under your current example it certainly would involve having to summon or create the water necessary. Manipulation of existing substances would likely fall under a different category altogether.

And what precisely, is your fascination with dragons?
