(It is uncommon for Maedhros to be surrounded by...anyone, truly. He has an air about him that affords him space without him saying a word. Perhaps his scars are off-putting or his height or perhaps word has spread that he - along with certain members of his family - are skilled, cold killers when threatened.

Regardless, the tall Elf is finding himself in an uncomfortable situation. Many of those vying for his attention are Co’kal and he is wary of offending them even in his confusion.)

Forgive me, but I cannot - (There is excitement that follows his gentle rejection and he tenses, barely avoiding a hand touching his hair.) I do not like to be touched.

(Which isn't entirely true. His family can touch him freely and he feels no anxiety. However strangers are a different story.

A smaller, somewhat daintier Co'kal makes a sound of sympathy and he smiles nervously.)

I am honored to be given your affections. (Maedhros meets the gazes of all around him, paling when he feels tensions heightening.) But I am not worthy of them. I must tell you now that we would not be compatible as mates.

You could have asked her and I can imagine what she would say. (His eyes glow happily in the firelight.) I would have asked her for you.

Kano... (He reaches out to touch Maglor's cheek.) You cannot know that for certain.

(But he knows that they shouldn't test it.)

Brief stays would not hurt them.

[ Maglor leans briefly into the hand ]

It was not the curse that overwhelmed me, but...myself. I can only blame myself. (He gives Maglor a steady gaze.) I believe the same holds true for our brothers. We chose violent paths and succumbed to our choices.

[ Maglor looks back, eyes empty and lost (but never, never, does he loose the rhythm of their work) ]

I should have seen. I failed you, Nelyo.

(The metal can wait. He walks to Maglor and slips his arms around him.)

You never failed me once.

[ Maglor leans against him, hands falling still ]

I failed you three times, and the last time lost me you.

I do not blame you for any of my choices. (Maedhros rests their cheeks together.) I forgot to speak; to seek warmth. You suffered for that more than I will ever understand.

I know. But I do - and you should. I was the one always by your side - I should have known better!

Based on what? Our dismal existence? Nothing changed for us for years. How were you to expect that I had reached the end of my tether?

But I should have known! [ Maglor's voice rises in a keening wail ] You are my brother!

(Maedhros does his best to tuck Maglor into his arms, his heart breaking - further - to hear the raw grief in his brother's voice.)

And you are mine. I say you never failed me. I failed myself and you. It matters naught if I ever forgive myself for the first, but the latter is unforgivable.

[ Maglor clings, all the raw edges he normally keeps so carefully in their place jangling ]

If I had not, I might have saved you

(His eyes well with tears and he gives his head a rough shake, though his hands are gentle as he strokes over Maglor's bound hair.)

I did not wish to be saved then.

[ Maglor sobs, clinging to Maedhros as if his life depends on it ]

Why did you leave me behind? Why did you forbid me to follow? What did I do wrong?

(He kisses those tears on Maglor's cheeks, breathing shakily.)

Nothing. I could not... I could not! ...imagine you dead.

[ Maglor shakes his head, sobbing still ]

Without you, what point did I have in living?

(He rocks them, closing his eyes tightly.)

There is always a point to living, Kano. I prayed, desperately, that you would find it.

[ Maglor clings and but refuses to be comforted so easily ]

There was nothing left for me.

That isn't so. Elrond lived and he had a family, did he not? (Not that Maglor could have stayed with them, but he could have watched over them nonetheless.)
