[ It's a good thing the network is already on when Solas is awake, mostly because the first thing he does is promptly fall out of the bed. There's a long moment of silence before there comes a long suffering sigh and a spot of movement, the blackness moving to reveal a voice, quiet and measured as he looks around. ]

... Ah.

[ He frowns, his eyes narrowing a little before he continues, as if he's taking in everything before he even considers making a movement. ]

Well, this is certainly different.

[ Until he's assigned, Solas can be found in the room he woke up in, loathe to go too far. He's very quiet and keeps to himself, especially if people mention anyone that might be from 'his world'; for the most part he seems particularly solitary. He does ask, once or twice, if anyone has any idea about painting, or something called the 'Fade', but generally he appears to be rather a loner.

At least it's obvious that, if spoken to, he will be particularly polite and generally quite cheerful, for the most part. ]

I've been here for a few months, so I can cover most of the basics.

Thank you. It seems as though many of my fellows are here, so I am not entirely at a loss. [ He is still smiling, though it's obvious that he's a little guarded and careful. ]

A few months with no chance of escape?

[From her reaction it's unclear if she notices at all that he's guarded, or if she simply doesn't mind.]

Yes, I'm sorry to say. Some people who arrived here used to possess powers that allow them to travel great distances at will, but those powers have been taken from them. And regarding the transport that we are allowed, any attempts to physically drive our ships away from the fleet results in us being drawn back against our will.

[ And his lips thin. ]

Complaining does us little good?

It goes without saying, that many people are searching for a way to return home. But for the time being, most are attempting to cooperate and forge a somewhat peaceful existence.

At least we have that. Peace is often hard to come by.

It's true. And as long as we don't let it turn to complacency, I think it's wonderful how well people have been able to get along. [well... with a few exceptions]

[ His smile softens a little. ]

It is wonderful. It makes the architecture a little more bearable, at least.

[haha, she laughs softly at that]

At least I can say that seems to be getting better. The ships were in... quite a sad state when we first arrived. As more people come aboard, we're given the chance to improve them, which helps day to day life.

I can only imagine.

[ But, that makes him think. ]

Are we allowed to decorate, do you know?

Mm hm. Well... I'd imagine that it would be polite to ask your crew mates first, but there are no restrictions against it.

What sort of decorations did you have in mind?

Murals. I painted them in my own world, in my room, and I found it rather calming.

[oh wow. She's never been an artsy person, but she can appreciate creativity when she sees it. So she's quite obviously impressed]

That sounds wonderful, I can't imagine that anyone on your ship would have a problem with that. [she hesitates before asking more-- she doesn't want to be too nosy]

What sort of subject matter do you paint?

I would like to hope so, when the time comes. It was never an issue in my rotunda.

[ But he had been a friend of the Inquisitor. Why say no? ]

The events of the life of Inquisitor Lavellan. His successes and his triumphs alike.

My... that's quite a lofty title. [and she's not quite sure what to make of it. She knows the word and the negative associations with it on Earth, but she would not want to presume in case this Inquisition was different]

Did you know this person well?

A lofty title for a man who is nothing of the sort.

[ Arhen was gentler, softer, and not at all high and mighty like some people thought he would be. He had never considered himself the godly chosen as so many had assumed. ]

He and I are very good friends, yes.

[aw... her smile looks a bit sad. ]

I'm sorry that you're separated from him and your work, for the time being.

I'm sure that my work will be waiting for me whenever I can return.

[ To think otherwise would be a failure. ]

I think so too. And if our hosts don't intend to return us to the moment from when we were taken... well, then I suppose it's something that we'll have to take into our own hands.

We can learn things here to use at home, don't you think? There are already so many people for me to meet and talk to. That, in itself, is a gift.

I think so too. The idea that there are worlds and cultures that I never could have imagined... It may be too idealistic to hope that we may all be able to continue communication after this is concluded, but I hope that will be the case.

You are far more open-minded than many people, I think. I'm glad to see wisdom like yours so blatant here.

Ah... thank you. [she's a bit embarrassed by the compliment, it makes it sounds quite a lot fancier than it seems to be from her perspective]

Then I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by this fleet as a whole. I've found many here to be thoughtful, and wonderful to talk to.
