Didn't need to hunt me down. I don't...
[He pauses, unsure how to phrase it. Hard to put words together, sometimes.
Especially in a situation like this.]
Don't expect anything out of you.

[It wasn't entirely the voices making her feel that way. They had just given her a strong push than she was comfortable with. Normally she kept her grief over her family quietly contained and she was content with that. Glenn still lived. She still lived. They one another and perhaps Alexandria could help them build a home together out of all the bodies they'd left behind them.]
I at least wanted to thank you properly. Somehow sending a text or a transmission didn't sit right with me.
no subject
Don't do it again.
... People here, they'll care too much. Not good to worry 'em, or they'll babysit you.

[She smiles a bit, shoving her hands in her pockets while she speaks.]
I... can't really explain what made me go that far, other than wanting to stop the noise. I'm sorry that had to be how we ran into one another. No one needs to have someone else's shit thrown onto them like that.
no subject
But you don't have to explain. Not to me. I've tried to stop the noise before, too. [He shrugs. It's not new to him. He gets it, really, he does.] Home is... nothin' but shit. Nothin' but people going too far to live or throwing their lives away.
This ended fine, for me. And for you.

I'm still breathing so I guess that's something. Still hate putting you on the spot like that. I try to be more of the glass half-full type an' all that, but I guess that wasn't one of my better moments for it.
[A beat. She's not too keen on opening up herself to someone she barely knows but he saved her life, so he deserved that much.]
I kept hearing my sister. She passed away not too long ago so it's been a bit of a process moving past it. I guess I'm still not past it.
[She leans against the wall nearest her, looking down at her hands, twisting her wedding ring as she'd done so many times before.]
no subject
Mm. You never really get passed it.
[Maggie, you're talking to the king of never getting past things.
He knows he lost his mind because of it. Lost it more after the desert wastelands helped. Time and people have never been particularly good to him, some people pending. To be fair, though... after a while, he was not particularly good to most people right back. That's just how his world works, but. Y'know. Fuck 'em.]
Good to try, but you shouldn't... beat yourself up.
Y'might fall apart and stay that way, otherwise.

[She kind of gathers he's really bad at this whole 'comforting people' thing.]
I do have one question - where'd you learn your medical skills? I was pretty out of it but I still remembered the needle mark. You did a blood transfusion? How exactly are you not dead right now? Unless you just carry around packs of blood.
no subject
... Universal donor.
Picked up some things.
[If he's tried to save lives before, he's not about to tell her outright. But he did save Furiosa — knew it'd work out. And he knew just how much he could give, not just... because of Furiosa, but because of the War Boys. He'd been in that cage for... days? Weeks? It was hard to keep track of time.]
Know my limits.

[He might not understand why she's so concerned over him when he is practically a stranger to her, but it came naturally.]
I - uh - I'm lab support on my ship so I guess... I guess that's why I ask.
[And not purely because she feels indebted to him. Nope, not at all.]
I guess if you're on your feet it's not a big deal, but I figured it's only right to make sure.
no subject
He shakes his head.]
Not my first time doing it. Don't worry.
Just needed some rest. Time to, um, recuperate... Had it handled.
[... He wasn't checked out at all, of course.]
Um. You?
no subject
Well I'm glad you were there to think quick. Sorry you even had to.
[When will she stop saying sorry? Who knows. She's probably apologized about fifty times to various concerned parties like Carl and Takeshi and even Okita.]
Me? I'm good thanks to you, anyway. Needed rest too, like you.
[Which she didn't take for very long either. There was work that needed doing and she wanted to just keep her head on right without others worrying after her.]
no subject
[He taps his temple.]
Up here. Images, voices...
no subject
[She shakes her head a bit.]
All I got is guesswork.
no subject
[He nods, pretty sure of himself.
A thoughtful pause.]
You're from the same world as Carl. Apocalyptic?
no subject
Yeah. Met his family while they were drifting through, they found my daddy's farm and we gave them shelter until we had to move on with them. He's been family ever since.
[As she tells the story, her hands unconsciously come together so she can twist her wedding ring. She hadn't even thought of how Glenn would feel if something had happened to her. Now she felt completely ashamed.]
no subject
But he doesn't think long on it; he evades memories as best he can. Tries to drown out the voices.]
Smart. Good to find family wherever you can.
M'from a world where everything's gone. Lot of people go it on their own, and you regret not making something.
no subject
[And she's lost so much as it is. They all have, really.]
no subject
Still hoping to turn everything around? Make it something decent?
