So, it's been a few days so I figured maybe all the communications officers from the ships- maybe we should get together and talk? We should definitely think of how to make this more efficient. Set some ground rules or something? Mostly just to lower the risk to us and them. I know a lot of you have been here much longer than I have so maybe some of you so obviously I don't have a lot of influence with any of you, so no one is forcing anyone.

I'll be in the library on the Iskaulit, probably for most of the day.

[Which is what Crowley will absolutely open on as he heads over to slouch in a chair. Was there a chair before? Did it just APPEAR? It's hard to tell, but he's absolutely slouched in one now. ]

I assume you're talking about our new quote-unquote 'friends'.

Khadgar just gapes for a moment and he definitely does wonder about the chair. He feels certain there hadn't been one there before.]

Ah- yes, that's exactly who I mean. And rules are important, especially in situations like this. For their safety as well as ours.

Our safety, yes. I'm still not completely convinced that they're on our side. I've played this game before, and people like that tend to be in it for themselves.

At this point, I think our safety is tied with theirs since we've been in contact with them. Directly or indirectly. And even if they are, they did save us when Atroma wasn't offering any type of assistance.

That's wonderfully trusting of you. What's to say they're not part of Atroma's grand plan anyway? I mean, it's easy to say you're fighting for someone else's side- that's why spies are a thing.

That argument could be made for trusting anyone here at all. Maybe you or someone else is a plant by Atroma. Nobody can know everything, we have to start by trusting someone and if we learn that trust is misplaced, we react accordingly.

...Good point. Still, I'm not all that excited to become pen palls with this lot just yet.

You don't have to be excited. Alliances aren't always born of desire but of necessity.

Ugh, suppose that's true. Still. Best be on our guard, all the same.

Might look into that hacking upgrade for the Goldstone.

I wouldn't suggest we not stay on our guard. Especially since I was told that same fleet once attacked us. Maybe it was a misunderstanding but maybe not.

I'll see about the same for Twin Roses. Providing the other communication officer and captain agrees.

Twice. They attacked us twice. So I'd go with a 'no' on the misunderstanding. Hard to mistakenly attack someone two times.

[He gives a nod. Crowley's not planning on asking anyone. ]

Then we'll have to be ready. All the more reason to have a plan in mind on when we use those device and why we use them.

[ Charles runs a hand over his bald head as he makes his way to the library. Being first mate on the Heron means responsibility and he's fine with that, but he would have also appreciated a few more details. ]

[More information, he's glad to give, but Khadgar is making a habit of being careful with how much he shares over the network, what could be overheard. He realizes the risk still exists but at least this way, it might be slightly diminished.]

My basic idea is to limit any communication to once a month, maybe a bulk message. And never from the same ship two months in a row.

That might be tricky, especially considering the amount of communications go out. And it's certainly not feasible during the times we're off planet.

I mean, any communications going to the Interceptor fleet, of course. I wouldn't dream of restricting other forms of communication. Purely to prevent Atroma from cracking their encryption.

We could use archaic codes. We used to have one on Earth called Morse code.

[Hang on- oh, his augment comes in handy for that!] We have nothing like that on Azeroth, there are ciphers but I'm not sure how well those would work and I was taught things like that. Yeah, that could work though.

It just seems like we should have plans and rules in place to make this work as efficiently as possible.

Instead of relying on one kind of code, it might be best to blend or use aspects of different codes to create a new one.

[ He frowns lightly to himself, because it's a task easier said than done. Charles has the basic abilities required for communications, but he doubts he can stretch those as far as the actual creation of a new coding language. ]

I don't think anyone on my ship is likely to try.

There's one other communications officer on the Twin Roses, I can see if he'll help. And I'm sure we can recruit a few other people if we ask around.

I'm sure we'll have no shortage of help, but compiling something that works and escapes the Atroma's notice would be tricky.

[ They could do it on the mental plane, but Charles is loathe to offer up that possibility. ]

Nothing worth doing is ever without risks. Maybe they'll notice but we have to try something.

[And Khadgar wouldn't be sure how to deal with that since it's not something one encounters on Azeroth really.]

I'm not saying to avoid risks. I'm saying we need to make the risk count by avoiding as many pitfalls as we can.
