[It's starts with a young woman rolling off the bed, short hair messy and a starfleet uniform, if you'll recognize the style uniform she wears, a bit wrinkled. And, if anyone has met one, her Trill spots are very noticeable right now. She's fairly groggy yet as she wakes up and pulls herself to her feet.]

Hello? [Where... is she?] Julian? Ben? ... Kira? [Anyone?

Give her a few moments, she eventually realizes she's broadcasting.]

Hello, I'm Curz- Emon- uh... [Ughh, she rubs at her eyes and ruffles at her hair, trying to fully wake herself up.] I'm Dax. Ezri Dax, Lieutenant Junior Grade, I'm the counselor on Deep Space Nine in orbit of Bajor.

Kind of an emergency thing?

Yeah. I was the only Trill available on the Destiny and Dax was dying. too much trauma from its last host. The captain gave me the choice though, I could save Dax or stay myself.

[She bites her bottom lip briefly and then shakes her head.] Eight lives. Dax seemed to important, I had to save it.

So is a Trill a person from a place called Trill or something like that? Or is it someone with a unique ability to maintain multiple lives of memories? [Because it's not all tracking together, but she figures it will fit in a minute once she gets a handle on what kind of world she's from.]

Both really. I'm a humanoid Trill and our home planet is Trill. I'm from Sappora VII though, most people call it New Sydney. The other lives come from my symbiont, that's Dax. Physically, we're just the only race out there who can form a successful symbiotic relationship, long-term.

Hmm. So, did we just have a normal conversation for you, or a really intimate one? I need to know if I should buy you coffee later or something. [Teasing, but she does wonder if it was invasive. Kind of on the "what are you?" level, but she has a better grasp of where she's coming from now.]

Really, it kind of depends on who you ask. A few years ago, it might have been considered very intimate. No one knew about our symbionts. Now though, it's become public knowledge so it's fairly normal. [And now she can discuss her past lives without being concerned about Dax ever being expelled from society.] I won't say no to a coffee though.

It'll have to wait until they shuffle you, but we can arrange that.

Do you think it's good or bad that it's public now?

I've got three hundred years of experience, I think I can handle waiting until I get 'shuffled' for some coffee company. [She can revisit memories, get her identity problem a little more under control.]

Actually, I do. Until it was discovered, we avoided transporters, had to avoid seeing any non-Trill doctors for surgery. A lot of symbionts were are constant risk because of it. Now that it's public knowledge, we don't have to be so careful.

Yeah, that doesn't sound fun. My kind were a secret for a long time, but not during most of my life. I've never liked pretending to be something else.

[Or try to. She knows mok'bara but she's much smaller than her predecessors.]

No, not fun at all. It's actually cause some problems for us in the past, diplomatically.

Well, it's hard to stand up for yourself when you can't even represent yourself accurately.

Exactly, actually. It makes diplomacy difficult, and travel. Nothing makes things harder than avoiding transporter sensors seeing two different lifeforms and brainwaves.

Also makes your family look at you very strangely for a but afterward.

Your family? They wouldn't know?

They know about joining, they knew I never wanted it. Nobody can help looking at you differently when your joined though, you can... ignore the memories and personalities of the previous hosts, some of it sticks to you and changes you. And name mix ups happen, clearly. I called myself 'Curzon' to my mother.

I guess that really underlines the identity crisis of it all. [Not even registering your own name sometimes.]

It reminds me of someone I knew back home who could absorb personalities. It was not always easy for her.

I can't imagine that's easy at all. She definitely has my sympathies.

So what is a Deep Space Nine?

It's a space station in orbit of the planet Bajor. It was originally built by Cardassians but the Federation runs it now.

Wait, Federation? As in the Enterprise?

Yeah! The Enterprise is Starfleet's flagship. And one of many by that name.

Do you know Data or Pavel? That would be, uh, Picard or Kirk's versions.

I know of them! Data is from my time but my previous host never got to meet him. And with the war, I doubt I'll have a chance for awhile once I get back. Pavel was around Torias and Audrid's time but they didn't get to meet him either. Audrid did meet Christopher Pike though!

Haven't heard of him. Met a few others through my various abductions though. [She was closest to Data and Pavel.] Deanna Troi, Beverly Crusher, and Dr. McCoy not to be confused with Hank too. [She'd vaguely known of Q and Geordi too, but the names don't come to mind.]

He was captain of the Enterprise before Kirk was. He just disappeared a few years after he and Audrid met though. [All names she knows though!] Except for Leonard, they're all from my time!

Some of them are here, but they're probably contacting you soon if they haven't already. [She figures they'll have more connection to the words she used.] How well do you remember all these other people you were? Like it was just yesterday or more like it was a vivid dream?
