Captain's Log 08 - A Tristise on Adventuring
Who: Jim Kirk & You
Broadcast: No
Action: In a water temple (any of them)
When: Now/Throughout the month
Since there seem to be a lot of us exploring these temples and every single one of them comes with at least some level of trap/puzzle, I thought it might be a good idea to share some of the ones I've come across. While no puzzle is exactly the same as any other puzzle in any temple I've come across, some of the basic ideas behind them are similar - which is half the battle with these things, it seems.
At any rate, I hope this proves helpful to everyone and will help keep everyone out of tight situations. If you have any questions contact me, and if you want to make additions from your own experiences and upload please do so.

[ The file itself is a rather detailed text log of every trap he can accurately remember coming across in the numerous temples he has been in. What, he's been busy, okay? It includes everything from the giant eel guarding a key he came across with Isabella, to sliding walls, sliding statues, puzzle pieces, making objects light up in certain orders. It's a hefty file, to be sure. Happy reading! ]
Action - Water Temple #394
[ Kirk has gone to explore another temple he's come across, and much to his chagrin the second puzzle has begun to stymie him. He floated in the center of the room, arms crossed as he glared at the door in front of him, which had several glowing shapes, of which only four of five were lit. He was missing something, some critical switch or piece and he just couldn't figure out where he was erring.
But he was making the critical mistake when it came to puzzles in a water temple. There was always something out to get out, in one way or another. In this case, it was a bit of the ceiling, coming loose after years of neglect. Accident, this time, rather malicious intent. But it's coming down anyways, and Kirk doesn't see it. ]
[ ooc: Feel free to rescue him, or to start in another chamber of the temple. The above was just an option for starting ]

[He's fine with Kirk going first, and when the man calls, he follows, bare feet bouncing off the wall and to the left. ]
...Well, that was easier than I thought it would be.

I don't think the currents will be to strong - just enough we can't swim back up without serious effort. The hard part is the fact this maze is more or less three-sixty, so now that we're in, we have to get out.
[ He blew out a breath, glancing around at their potential paths and tossed a rock, watching it go and then another. ]
Okay then - left or down?

[And here is Fenris, bringing the fun to the party, woop-woop. He shrugs, he has no damn idea. He's the best person to bring on quests, gosh, wow.]
...Left, I suppose.

Anyone ever told you that you are painfully charming?
[ He rolled his eyes at him, and decided on going left anyways. And that was how things went over the course of the next forty-five minutes. They ended up doubling back on themselves multiple times, but eventually they were gently pushed out the exit, Kirk shaking his head and floating for a minute as he enjoyed the sensation of not being pulled or pushed anywhere. ]
If there is another puzzle beyond there, I'm going to cry. You won't be able to tell. But I'll be crying.

[He follows behind, finally landing beside Kirk at the exit. He huffs in amusement. ]
I will be sure to make note of the tears and offer you some condolences.

What, no hugs?
[ Still, he twisted his position and swam towards the door, noting there were two panels on either side. A final little trick, but given that there were two of them, this was much simpler. He motioned for Fenris to go to one as he took the other. ]
Okay, we push at the same time. Ready? One, two, push!

[Fenris swims across, bracing his shoulder against it and pushing on the three. This part, he could do. ]

If I didn't know better, I would say you were starting to doubt me.
[ He huffed as they pushed in, the grind of stone being felt even through the water. Slowly, slowly the doors opened, finally settling with a boom that vibrated the water around them. Inside was the interior of the shrine, a coffer settled atop an altar. Kirk grinned, pushing in towards it and looking back to Fenris. ]
Wallah! Our prize.

[Fenris follows, still looking at it rather distrustfully. ]
Assuming it does not explode and kill us both, anyway.

Your pessimism is refreshing as always, Fenris.
[ He made his way to the treasure first, kneeling on the mount and grasping the edges. They were never locked, it seemed, but why would they need to be? The point was a reward, after all - or so he assumed given all the trouble to get in here. That, or the people who build these shrines never thought they'd anyone would get to them at all. ]
Remember your promise about the hug.
[ He pulled up, hear thrumming in anticipation. ]

We have to see what it is first. If it isn't worthwhile, the deal is off.

[ He says in that lilting way a teacher does to a group of students even when they don't believe a word of what they're saying - that sort of empty platitude that has long been crushed inside their own soul.
Slowly the chest creeped open, glowing softly and for a brief second blinding Kirk. He looked in and motioned Fenris forward to look inside for himself. ]

I am a mercenary. I need the actual physical prize.
[He moves a little closer, peering inside. His eyes widen a fraction, seeing inside a (thankfully watertight sealed) copy of Savage Starlight...no. Not just any. This was Ellie's. He can tell it by sight. He stills a moment, a small, sad smile crossing his lips and he reaches in to pick it up, almost reverently.
It's been so long. ]

[ Kirk looked over at what Fenris had - there was nothing there for himself, if there had ever been at all, and he didn't so much mind that. He was happy enough to have successfully conquered the shrine itself. He was fine with the abstract. ]
'Savage Starlight'? Is it an important novel to you?
no subject
It is called a comic book. I- Back in Exsilium, there was a girl named Ellie. She was from an awful world, where it was a struggle to survive every day, but she loved these. She helped me with my reading with them. When she vanished from the Initiative, as people always do in places like this, she left me her collection. I....have missed them.
...I have missed her.
