So, when I have missing crew, that just means... what? Their ratings were terrible so they got dropped? It can't be that easy, or people would sabotage their own ratings to get sent home.

So how many people are we down to here, now? ...and is there anything stop Cass from just moving into one of the spare bunks if they won't officially transfer her?
action
Welcome aboard.
[he turns away from the screen to give her a warm grin. She's not alone in that relief... ]

And in that case, I'm kidnapping her as soon as I can get her on a shuttle. I'll feel a lot better when all three of us are in the same place...

Even if they did get sent home, I doubt sabotage would work. They might find other ways to make you entertaining.
[But he considers...]
The first time people left, they tried to tell us that there weren't any people at all, and just figments of our imagination...so that's worrying enough.

The more I learn about this show we're on, the less sense it makes to me.
Video
It is pretty nonsensical. I mean, we can't be that interesting to watch.

People are sent away just as they're brought here, perhaps? Or, well, there's always the more common case of kidnapping or terrible occurrences wherein they cannot make contact.

SOMETIME LATER | text
If you want better ratings, buy the souvenirs. Make the sponsors happy.
This is a tourist trap. Even the sunny sky is meant to make us think of home. They want us to feel nostalgic and buy their stuff.
And I don't think the missing passengers go home. It is more likely that they are destroyed, or stored until they can be popular again.

Destroyed seems unlikely, especially if they can bring people back from the dead. Resurrection is a ratings boost they wouldn't just throw away before the Easter special.
