EVENT LOG | There's always a bigger fish.

[The source of the toxins has been discovered to be coming from the Depths that were previously sealed off. The Dasioe, desperate for aid, has agreed to let the Fleet have access to search for the source and put a stop to it. So now it's up to you to prepare yourselves for the unknown, and brave these dark waters for the sake of this world.
But be careful: you aren't alone down there.
This is a catch all-mingle/event log for the Depths event and anything related to it. None of the creatures will be NPCed by mods, so feel free to control them as you'd like.

Team Heron
Not anymore.
The feathered monstrosity's opening burst of electromagnetic energy had thrilled up his spine, and he was just barely able to throw up a slight buffer of resistance. The shuttle was rendered mostly useless, only emergency lighting left on as the beast latched onto it.
Following that outrage, Erik had squirmed out from his seat and through the emergency exit, spear in hand. Now he's staring down at the creature and spares a moment on his communicator to ask Charles and Nancy:]
If you have any ideas, now's the time to share.
[He doesn't wait for a reply, yanking his old knife out of his belt and throwing it at the creature with as much speed as his magnetic power can muster.]

she feels her heart race - the thing isn't as horrible as the Monster and at least it can't get inside.
Still, they have to do something. It takes a moment for her to get a grip and she steels herself and tries to follow him. ]
We have to hit it hard enough so it'll let go.
[ she looks at the harpoon ]
It has to have a soft spot somewhere.
[ she narrows her eyes at the thing. ]
You think the lasers can go through water?
no subject
The centre, I would think.
[He glances back at Nancy, seeing her appear through the shuttle door.]
Only one way to find out.
no subject
[ she was going to ask something. highly likely, how on earth did he call the knife back. she seems to decide there are more pressing matters at hand. ]
Okay.
[ deep breaths, wheeler, you can do this. her hand doesn't shake as she steadies the gun, forces both her eyes to stay open rather than closing one.
she doesn't miss. she hits the thing but not in the belly. ]
--- Maybe if we crouch.

If it had an eye we could hit--
[Who knows if deep sea monster even need eyes? He can't see one. Erik raps on the shuttle hull, trying to get Charles's attention.]
Keep firing.

[ she takes a calming breath once she sees he isn't hurt - there seem to be feathers everywhere. ]
Right.
[ she crouches, a position she used to see in history books about the war; she doesn't execute it perfectly but it's good enough to hit the creature again, she tries every angle she can think of. ]

Nancy, Charles says another monster is incoming. We're going to try and set them on each other so we can escape.
no subject
[ she looks up, stops firing for a moment. ]
Another one? How are we going to do that?
no subject
I would hope the bigger target is a more appealing one.
no subject
[ she may have only met two monsters in her life but she feels comfortable to decide no monster can be defined as appealing. ]
What if it's a bigger one?? can he - just - I mean, does it work with monsters like it does with people?
[ she has to admit, it's kind of cool. ]
no subject
I don't know - I haven't seen him affect animals before. [He looks towards her, dim in the gloom of the sea. It's evident she knows something of Charles's mutation, at the very least.] He wouldn't suggest it if there wasn't a chance of success.
no subject
[ this is crazy but so was trapping a monster with a bear trap and a baseball bat. who knows, maybe it's crazy enough to work. ]
I guess I'll keep this one occupied.
[ as long as it tries to avoid her shots, its attention is caught. ]
