[ the feed opens with a profile view of a sleeping winn. on his face, you can see an elaborate sharpie painted mustache (courtesy of opal) and from the ceiling right above him hangs a plastic flamingo in a coat and plastic sunglasses (courtesy of cisco).

to anyone who's been by to see him lately, it's a very familiar scene. but seconds into it something that hasn't happened in about two weeks begins to take place - movement. with a soft groan, winn reaches a sluggish hand to his face, shielding his eyes from the light. the hand then seems to decide that scratching above his upper lip is better use of its time and skills. slowly, his eyes blink open, struggling to adjust, to focus.

and then they do. on that flamingo.

he yelps, jumping up in bed, tearing the flamingo off its strings and throws it across the room, where he proceeds to stare at an off frame army of (four) flamingos. rubbing at his temples he mutters just loudly enough to be captured on film ] So Cisco's still here...

[ that seems to remind him of something, and with a sharp move his still sleepy mind can't seem to properly cope with, grabs at the communicator and misses. next attempt brings it into his hand and you finally get a close up of that glorious mustache.

he frowns into the camera ]

Of course it's rolling... [ his voice is raw, lips chapped, and he clears his throat in an attempt to bring back his usual volume ] Hi - Fleeters - if we're still calling ourselves that - Winn Schott here, back to the world of the conscious - if you recognize me check in and tell me how long I've been out - Kitty - you better still be here. [ because unless you call him within the next 10 seconds he's calling you as soon as he cuts this feed and if you're not there he will freak. he rubs at his painted mustache again, not quite realizing what's bothering him, and with a small tired smile fumbles to shut the broadcast off. ]

[She just shakes her head and once she's dressed and her hair somewhat smoothed out she leans back in for one more kiss for the road and then she's gone.

It is a little over an hour later when he gets a call! She's still very much in a loving mood.]

Hey, you. I found us an air-locked hotel room! I can spin by and pick you up if you're ready.

Hey - I'm hanging out with Opal for a bit, I'll meet you back on the Tourist in about an hour?

[ he has to bring the shuttle back there, and his bag is in his room. he's more than a little shaken up by his run in with chekov so hanging out with his little sister and talking about other things...proved to be exactly what he needed. ]

[She might have play pouted, but she gets that other people missed him and she doesn't want to even jokingly make him feel bad about getting time with them especially since she already got one chunk and they're moving into another.] It's a plan. Love you.

[ he especially needs this time with opal because now that he lost both sascha and margaery, she and hermione are the only little siblings he has left. and out of the two, he definitely feels more protective of opal. not that he doesn't love hermione dearly! he absolutely does! but there's this feeling that she doesn't really need that kind of almost parental support from him whereas with opal while it's not as clear as it was with margaery...it's definitely there. ]

[ true to his word, he's back in his room an hour later, sitting on his bed wearing the cubs jersey he made himself as part one of her christmas gift and a tie (no, he doesn't care that they don't go together - it's two things he knows she loves seeing on him and that's all the fashion excuse needed!), his bag already hanging over his shoulder. he's so ready to get out of here which is a weird thing to feel. he loves the tourist, he wants to hang out with his friends more. but with chekov here, it's just too hard. ]

[She has no idea he has talked with Chekov and even though not much time really passed since she last saw him she was very eager to meet up again and the moment she sees what he's wearing she laughs and moves in to embrace and kiss him.] You are perfect. [She guessed tie, but this combo is everything.]

[ he manages to push chekov out of his mind for the moment to just bask in the happiness his silly little outfit managed to cause her. he kisses back. ]

I know.

Good. Ready for a few days of water puns and exhausting each other into naps?

That this is already sinking fast.

I sea what you were going for but that's not much of a problem in a world where underwater breathing's a thing. [ he kisses her cheek and gets up ]

[She laughs and shakes her head.] I'm in so much trouble. I don't seem to mind though.

[Skip forward?]

I won't let you drown.

[ he kisses her cheek and takes her hand, leading her back to the shuttle, and puns the whole way to their room. ]

I've created a sea monster. [But the next thing you know they are in their new room and Kitty goes to flop on the bed only to have it flop back at her.] Woah! Winn, I think the bed might be possessed. [It was startling enough that she phased herself through it on instinct.]

[ he laughs and pokes at the mattress. ]

...well, what else would they stuff it with but water. [ it makes sense now that he thinks about it. ] This is gonna be...interesting. [ he is not 18 omg he does not want a waterbed. ]

Wow. I have only ever heard about these. [Solid again, she pushes her hand down on it.] I wanted to sleep on one as a kid. This was not the wish I expected to have fulfilled.

I had a friend who had one in college. He got rid of it pretty fast.

[ poking some more to test it out. this is not going to be conducive to round three. ]

Did he have waterbed horror stories? [She carefully climbs on the bed experimentally. I mean...they have to at least try it, no?]

Tragically failed one night stand stories. Now that I think of it, it may not have been totally the bed's fault.

[ won't know until they try, maybe he was just bad at it! they're two geniuses.

he carefully climbs alongside her, feels like he loses his balance and tries to stable himself with one hand on the wall behind them and one on her. ]

[She laughs.] I actually think it would be easier inside a bouncy house. [But she looks amused and fond as she attempts to help him settle in.]

You might be right -

[ he finally settles in. sort of. maybe if he just never moved again - ]

Okay, this is where I live now, I don't think I can get up -

[She just laughs.]

We have to try it though, right? I mean, for science. [She holds his hands and gives it a squeeze.]

Can't let science down -

[ he leans in for a kiss. ]

[Giggling again, but she meets the kiss.]

[ if they could just make out always that would be good, it'll save him from all the hard talks he knows they still have to have. when she's kissing him, he feels so secure, so worthwhile. it's just...everything is better when kitty is kissing him, so he's in no hurry to pull back. ]

[She knows that there is more she needs to say and more she should probably hear. But he has a whole extra year in his brain and it doesn't all need to come out today. There are other years in there that she doesn't know everything about too. What she knows when he holds her and kisses her is that he loves her and prioritizes her. That means so much. She spent so much time in relationships where she didn't feel that way—trying to get back to better days that never came back around. With Winn it feels like it's always been good and always been getting better too. She strokes his face lovingly as she kisses him.]
