[Someone got a set of books when he was dragged along, completely against his will, through a temple exploration adventure. And promptly started studying them the instant he got back to Twin Roses and free time. Which lead to a couple sleepless nights and now this.

Khadgar has three books spread evenly around him, a notebook under one of those, and one book in front of him. Or rather, it's under his face. His sleeping face. Learning new magic is fun!

I usually sleep enough! I just couldn't wait to study some of these. I'll probably try some in a couple days too.

I'm not going to blow anything up, if that's what you're worried about. [He's not (that much of) a reckless kid.]

I'm sure there's a wide variety of newly wielded magic destruction to unleash that's far more nuanced than just blowing things up.

Don't forget, I've been training as a mage since I was six, I know how to be careful while practicing.

I'm more worried about the augment taking it as an opportunity for hijinks. But...sure. [Don't blow up the ship or turn them all into newts.]

I'm not the mage I should be, could be, I can't just ignore an opportunity to learn more.

Concern for the ship and the others aside... I wouldn't actually want to ask you not to. Just be careful. [She doesn't want to be someone suspicious or controlling of powers. That was a problem back home. She just also used to train new mutants and she knows what can happen. And they weren't trusting their lives to a tin can in space then.]

Of course, I won't practice any of the more violent spells here. I'll probably try those on the next planet with a lot of wilderness.

What kind of violent spells are we talking about? [Curious more than concerned. That's appropriate, right?]

Summoning familiars, walls of lightning, arcane blasts. Nothing awful, [Unless you're on the receiving end.] but nothing I would want to do in a small, confined area.

Familiars? Do you mean like black cats?

[touchallthebooks]

No, more like... here, a water elemental is mostly harmless.

[Mostly. His eyes glow and he mutters a spell, the magic forming a creature with gold gauntlets and made of water.]

Our familiars are more like this.

Oh... [Surprised, but not really showing it. She's conditioned to be around people using powers all the time.] You just made someone. What... Who? [Unsure how to word this question. "What does it do sounds possibly rude.]

Not really a someone. It has no will of it's own. It will protect me, fight for me. And I can banish it as easily as I summoned it. I can make one from flame and arcane energy as well. [But flames would probably be unwise.]

Ah. It has water powers I'm guessing? Do you have to control all it's moves or does it just know to protect you?

That's right. I can command it but it knows what it can do, what it's supposed to do. So if you were to attack me, it would react. [With a wave of his hand though, he banishes it. And there's no sign it had been there, not even a few drops of water.]

[She'd thought about attacking just to see, and while she opted not to, it's better that the temptation is removed.] You have quite the bag of tricks.

I've been training most of my life, I hope I've got a good bag of tricks up my sleeve.

How old are you when you can first access magic?

I was... four, maybe five years old? I used it to steal cookies before supper for my siblings and I. I started actually training at six. So probably five, actually. I couldn't have hidden it that long.

Does everyone in your world use it?

[touchallthebooks]

No, just some of us are born with the ability to draw on mana inside ourselves. There's no telling who will have it though. I was the only mage in my family then.

Then? But now now?

No idea. I haven't seen then since I was six. So maybe.
