[Someone got a set of books when he was dragged along, completely against his will, through a temple exploration adventure. And promptly started studying them the instant he got back to Twin Roses and free time. Which lead to a couple sleepless nights and now this.

Khadgar has three books spread evenly around him, a notebook under one of those, and one book in front of him. Or rather, it's under his face. His sleeping face. Learning new magic is fun!

[He just stares for a moment longer before pinching at his eyes and bridge of his nose.]

Yeah, I guess I was. I've slept in worse places though.

Yeah? [It's the type of 'yeah' that says Vash is happy to hear if he wants to continue, but he won't push past what has already been given.

He leans over closer to look at the books. Partly because if he honestly keeps looking at Khadgar's face he might start laughing.] What are you reading anyway?

Anywhere I could sleep really. I didn't stop into towns very often. [He avoided them, he means.]

Magic. These are some of the books I never got to read when I was in Dalaran so when I found them [shrug] I couldn't really wait to read them.

[goldenglasses]

You found them? Like from a sponsor or the temple? Or did you find them for sale on a planet?

[Because that third option would open to some interesting questions.]

One of the water temples, I got dragged along to explore one. [He hated it at the time, not so much now.] They were sealed up tight in plastic, not even a little water damage.

[goldenglasses]

That's good. I'm no expert when it comes to oceans and water, but I do know it doesn't mix well with paper.

[Hopefully he doesn't find over the shoulder reading as super rude as Vash scans a couple pages.] Oh! Can you use magic as well? [Getting to know his new crew and abilities probably isn't a bad idea.]

[He doesn't mind at all, he even shifts a little so Vash can get a better view.]

I can. I've been training with the Kirin Tor, a sect of mages devoted to studying magic and magical artifacts, since I was six.

[goldenglasses]

Really? So on your world can anyone learn magic? It's interesting how many worlds have magic yet some people can learn and others can't.

Not anyone, just people who are born with the ability to draw on mana we basically store inside of ourselves. Paladins can use some magic as well but I've never seen it in action.

[goldenglasses]

So are you one of those people who can draw on mana? Or do you just study the principles of magic?

[touchallthebooks]

No, I'm a mage. Probably one of the most powerful apprentices the Kirin Tor trained in years.

[It's not an ego thing, honest.]

[goldenglasses]

Really? That's amazing! I can see why if you study this hard back home too. Unless you know a magic spell where the words seep into your brain while you're asleep.

I did study often while on Azeroth but I've also been training since I was six. I had a lot of time to perfect my skills. And there's no magic like that so it was all done normally.

[goldenglasses]

Six is a pretty young age to start training. Unless it's something you really love and are passionate about. [Or forced to, but Vash doesn't get that feel from the conversation.

Then his eyes trail back to the drawing on Khadgar's face and he has to bite his tongue to keep from laughing. Yet he can't keep the giant grin off his face.]

That's the age I was given to them to train. It brought my family honor, and offered me more time to study and access to books I never would have gotten my hands on outside of Dalaran.

[He squints a little at the grin, suspicious.] What..?

[goldenglasses]

Still sounds like passion to me. I know when I was six I just wanted to play games, not read books. [Okay. So maybe it was more find some way to stay alive while wandering lost on an inhospitable planet, but he didn't get to a lot of reading done then either. Not to mention he really would have rather be playing games!]

Oh? Nothing. Just thought of a funny joke is all! [Joke, prank? Same thing.]

[Still suspicious.]

I loved learning, I always did. And I had a skill no one else could help me perfect, something amazing. You can' learn something like this-

[He raises a hand, summoning a ball of arcane energy.] on your own. Maybe something like it, but never as powerful.

[goldenglasses]

[Vash's barely controlled giggles fade away as he looks impressed instead.] That's amazing. What can you do with it? Is it just to light the way in the dark? Or is it healing? Or, something else?

[Please say healing, please say healing, please not something else.] Or at least most magic I've seen on the fleet is for something more than just looking pretty.

It's mostly offensive magic, I've never learned how to heal. It's outside my capabilities, really. I can make healing potions though. Those aren't hard.

[He'll have to hope for a shaman or something.]

So it's selective what magic you can learn? You can't just learn all of it even if you can use magic?

[There are so many different variations between worlds. It's amazing really.]

Certain people can only learn certain skills. And healing was never something anyone really thought I would need, and I never showed an aptitude for it

Well, I suppose I can understand that. After all, can't be an expert in everything so might as well be an expert in what you're good at it.

[touchallthebooks]

Exactly. And I've put a lot of effort into being good at what I know.

[goldenglasses]

Well, good luck with the rest of the reading, but ah-- you may want to check yourself in the mirror. I think you got a bit of ink on your cheek. [And he will just run off once Khadgar does look.

Not that he won't be super easy to find close by laughing to himself if revenge or shouting is needed.]

The mirror? [He does go to look and there's a yell of 'hey!' a couple moments later and the mage runs out of the room after him. And not really sure of what he'll do if he catches him.]
