[Velvet had woken up in one strange tin can and had only just started to get her bearings when she was suddenly transported to another strange tin can. This isn't how she was expecting today to go.

She stumbles a little but manages to catch herself, oblivious to the fanfare that signals her arrival.]

Where--?

[She takes a moment to steady herself, shaking her head to clear it. She blinks, focusing on her surroundings, trying to make sense of things.]

...Is that pudding?

[Where does pudding fit into all this? And that's not even mentioning the confetti. Actually she hasn't even noticed that yet, or the fact that a lot of it has fluttered into her hair. She looks pretty festive for someone so cranky.]

[She almost tells him he probably should be, but thinks better of it. Trying to terrorize Zaveid's friend who is offering her information for free is maybe not the best plan. She sighs.]

You're some sort of exorcist right? [She's put that much together.] It's fine. I normally travel with one.

I see... [So Shepherds used to be called 'exorcists.' Allen was right, their jobs really are similar.] Well, you said you were meeting up with Zaveid, right? I'm sure there's plenty you two have to talk about.

Feel free to call me after you're done, and we can meet up to cover anything he might not have been able to answer. [Because Sorey has a very strong feeling that Zaveid won't be able to tell her anything about Eizen.]

Yeah. [Zaveid is mostly being overly friendly and kinda dumb, but that's fine.] I'll be in touch.

Alrighty. I'll keep an ear out.

[Some time passes. However much time is necessary for Zaveid to be dumb and her to actually figure out how to call people back on this communication thing.]

Hey. Sorey, right?

[Yeahhhh it takes some getting used to. Both the communicator and to Zaveid's dumbness.]

Yes? Did everything go okay?

[At least she has some experience with Zaveid's dumbness, though it's possible he's gotten worse in his old age.]

Sure. Zaveid couldn't shut up about you.

What, seriously? [Thaaaaat is so embarrassing.......Zaveid, geez...] He might've just been worried about us attacking each other and wanted to prevent that. I'm sure he'll come to me and talk you up as well.

So, did you want to meet?

[She raises an eyebrow at that (not that he can see it). If Zaveid is worried about her attacking someone he should probably be more direct about it. Also now she's really curious to meet Sorey.]

Yeah. Where's good for you?

The Iskaulit is nice and open, but seeing as you're new I don't mind coming to your ship if it's easier.

No, it's okay. Seems like I was given a pilot augment, I might as well try using one of those shuttle things, right?

They're pretty fun actually! Once you get used to docking, I mean. You'll probably have better luck with that than me, I always bump into something.

[.........okay] Um, anyway, I'll meet you outside the docking bay. See you there.

Yeah, okay. I'll be there shortly.

[It might take her a little longer than she expects because even though she has the information in her brain, applying it is a different story. It's not as smooth a ride as she'd like it to be but she gets there.]

[Sorey gets there long before Velvet does, because he makes a beeline and because he wants to check around for lots of people before she shows up (still unable to shake Maltran strolling up and with one fell swoop, destroying all his trust in her and instilling in a fear for Alisha's wellbeing) just in case. Zaveid's vouched for her of course, but.

Still.

And the second she enters his domain -or he enters hers, maybe, he's not sure- Sorey can feel it. Malevolence, seething, seeping, powerful and heady. It's not like Heldalf's domain, or even like that of a dragon but it's powerful and it makes him feel a little sick, sinking down into a crouch with his head hung as he swallows and breathes deep. He hasn't felt something quite like this since Greed, like the malevolence of a hundred souls all piled on top of each other, like the venomization crucibles back home. It's sickening.

Even when he hears her boots clicking down the hall, even when he can feel her as the source moving closer, Sorey doesn't quite get up. Maybe his reaction is a little more...visceral than usual. The last time he remembers being so close to so much malevolence, he was generating it himself.]

...H...hello, [he croaks, head still down, though he holds up a shaking hand in case she's the hand-shaking type.]

[This wasn't really what Velvet was expecting. First of all she was actually expecting him to be a little younger. But he looks about her age. His presence also feels familiar in a way that she wasn't entirely prepared for. But the most surprising thing is the fact that he looks like he's about to fall on his face.]

You're Sorey? [She frowns a little, placing a hand on her hip rather than accepting the hand he's offering.] You didn't have to come if you were sick, you know.

[Her tone is wry, and holds just a hint of scolding. She's never had anyone react to her quite like this, so it doesn't occur to her immediately she's the cause of his reaction.]

[Gonna just use that hand to push himself to his feet, leaning back against the wall.] Ah, no...I'm sorry, it just kind of came on suddenly. I'll be okay in a minute. [So she doesn't know how strong it is? Or maybe exorcists don't get affected like this by malevolence?] Did you want to talk somewhere more private, or is here okay?

No. Here's fine. I don't want you passing out on me.

[Again with the vaguely scolding tone. This is Zaveid's friend and vessel she doesn't really want him to push himself if he feels bad. And it's not like he can tell her anything if he's unconscious or something, right.]

[That's awfully considerate, so Sorey offers her a wary smile and evens out his breathing. He's already getting used to it; the pacts with Edna and Lailah are weak, but with Dezel, Zaveid and Mikleo here -and with Mikleo thrumming worriedly inside of him- he's feeling a little better.] Okay.

So, did you want to ask me anything in particular?

[Okay good. With that settled, she crosses her arms and leans against the nearest wall.]

What happens to Eizen?

[It feels very casual, both of them leaning against opposite walls and watching each other, like two friends meeting, completely at odds with what Sorey has to tell her. He doesn't know the whole story- heck, he doesn't even know a fraction of it, but the concern in her voice when she'd asked earlier had been genuine. That much is clear.]

...he turns into a dragon. I don't know when. [Edna almost never talks about Eizen except to deliver pointed barbs or harsh warnings, and Zaveid won't talk about his past unless it's been pried forcibly out of him. Between the two of them Sorey hardly knows anything about the seraph Eizen before he became...that.] Zaveid and I- we kill him. All of us lend our strength to the task. ...at least, I think so; it hasn't happened for me yet, but that's what Zaveid's told me.

[So, Eizen was right. She's not surprised. Not really. But it hurts to hear, somehow. She wanted him to be wrong, even if she hadn't really acknowledged it, even to herself. She sighs and looks away.]

He really is such an idiot.

[It's really said more to herself than Sorey, though she definitely says it loud enough for him to hear.]

[Gives her a few respectful moments of silence.] You mean, because he decided to live among humans? [Sorey gathered that much, at least. It wasn't hard to; many of the greater hellions they'd managed to purify were seraphim that didn't want to abandon humanity.]

[She snorts and glances at him again.]

Humans and, sometimes, daemons. He's stubborn and does what he wants.

[She's the same, though, so it's not really a criticism. They all made questionable choices didn't they, that's how they ended up traveling together.]

Mmm. I've traveled with his sister, and she's pretty stubborn herself. It might run in the family.

[But that's a little sad to think about.]

Are you and he pretty close friends?

We...have common goals and an understanding.

[Her crew is important to her, Eizen and his pirates included. Eizen trusts her and the rest of the party enough to tell them about his sister. But she's reluctant to use the word "friend", given what she is and how she is.]
