[But no seriously, Kaneis has been a rather antisocial crewmate this month- possibly even more so than usual. Mor puts him in a bad mood, Cole puts him in a bad mood, Milla leaving puts him in a bad mood, he puts himself in a bad mood- all in all, he's just not in the mood to chit-chat with people]
[So what does he do? Take full advantage of having his own personal quarters and staying in them unless he has a direct reason to leave. He doesn't even come out for mealtime. Who the hell knows was the last time anyone's saw him leave.]
[Seriously, are you sure he didn't die in there...?]
no subject
seriously, fuck Mor.
even though he's left him alone for the most part, there's still that concern, which is why he volunteers to take today's dinner to Kaneis. once he reaches his hatch, he moves to balance the plate on one hand before knocking on the metal. ]
Hey, Kaneis-- I've got dinner.
no subject
[Nngh. After a pause of debate, he'll call out.]
It's not jello or proteins, is it?
no subject
Nah. It's some of the steak I got from Abeo. Veggies, too.
no subject
[Uuuuuuuuugh]
[After a bit of debate, there's finally a clicking sound that sounds like someone's unlocking the hatch]
Hatch's open.
[YOU WIN THIS ROUND IRVING. But at the bottom of the ladder, the seems to be...golden glowing feathers scattered on the ground? Huh.]
no subject
...ah. those sure are glowing gold feathers down there. the source of what they are doesn't click immediately, so Lloyd simply moves to try and climb down the ladder as good as he can while balancing a plate. ]
I never thought you were the messy type. What's with all the feathers?
no subject
I got attacked by a giant glowing yellow bird.
[Then there's the sound of wings ruffling as yes, Kaneis is sitting on his bed- with his wings folded behind his back]
Or maybe it's molting season.
no subject
[ yeah, give him a moment to double-take because those are wings that are coming out of Kaneis's back. wings that he's been yearning to see properly since he first saw Zelos use his mystic arte.
holy shit. holy shit. ]
...
no subject
...What?
[A beat; just feeling a LITTLE awkward here Lloyd at the staring]
Tell me you didn't forget that I'm an angel, because I know I told you that much.
no subject
'Course I didn't forget. It's just the first time I've really ever seen your wings.
[ you know, since they're usually surrounded by a shitton of mana. he steps forward, offering the plate of food to Kaneis with a smile. ]
They look really cool.
no subject
[He unfurls one of the wings so Lloyd can get a better view as he takes the plate. It's a bit odd, for someone who is usually so sure of himself in terms of appearance, his moments and gestures are...anything but that. If anything, it seems more like he's uncomfortable in his skin with these things out.]
[Just like he's...really not sure how to accept a compliment about them]
...Uh, thanks.
no subject
[ he doesn't move to leave, but Lloyd does climb up the ladder to close the hatch properly before settling on the last step of the ladder. if Kaneis didn't bring his wings out for this long, then maybe he didn't want the others to know about them.
who knows. all he knows is that he seems uncomfortable about something, so he changes the subject a little. ]
I didn't know the wings molted this much though? [ if Lloyd's wings are like twice the size of Kaneis's… just how much will his wings molt?! ]
no subject
[But the subject change at least, is a suitable distraction]
You..didn't? I thought you've had yours for awhile. [Surely he would've preened them at some point right.....]
no subject
[ which means his wings are probably a mess of loose feathers right now. ]
no subject
[Oh dear goddess]
Lloyd- you know you're supposed regularly preen them, right? To keep the feathers nice?
no subject
[ no he didn't. ]
no subject
Do you know how to preen?
no subject
[ that's another "no" ]
no subject
Oh, great.
no subject
[ he's never even SEEN her preen her wings, for crying out loud! ]
no subject
no subject
[ well, he got him there. ] I just thought all those feathers coming out were normal...
no subject
I mean they shed a lot, but- preening helps cut down on that.
no subject
But when he's not being a dutiful son, he's kind of wandering around the ship looking at all the difference. Those upgrades sure do look damn fancy and fine, and he's making note of which ones might be more useful and how to pitch them to his crew at the end of the month. ]
no subject
but first. ]
Hey, you looking for Cole? [ that's who he's looking for, right? ]
no subject
Uh, no, actually. I know exactly where he is. [ Magic sensing at its best. His parents were never more than a shimmer away. It is, however, a good segue to his actual worries. ] Has he talked to you lately?
no subject
[ has he and Cole spoken to each other lately? kind of, though not extensively. just some small 'how-are-yous' and the like as they were passing each other by. ]
Mmn... A little, I guess. Just some small stuff. [ then again, Lloyd's been quieter than normal lately. most conversations he had didn't really go past small talk. ] Why, what's up?
no subject
[ Chris doesn't see a reason to freak anyone else out until he knows the extent of how far everything's gone. As upset and angry as he is for Cole's thought process, it isn't his place to drag everything out. Still, Chris has to pause and take a deep breath. ]
I mean... If he does, just ignore it. Trust me.
no subject
[ not that he'd agree to it immediately-- only if he knew what it'd be for and ONLY if it wasn't for that vanquishing potion. it's not that he doesn't trust Cole, because he still does, but he's definitely a little more wary and a little more than pissed at him. ]
Not like I'd do it anyway. Kaneis told me what happened.
no subject
Right. Okay. That's good. I mean—not good. It's not good, none of this is good. [ He takes a breath. ] I just wanted to make sure nobody indulged him on this.
no subject
Nah, I get it. [ more than Chris probably knows right now. ] …You doing okay with all this?
no subject
Yeah, I'm fine. You know, with my dad suddenly deciding assisted suicide is the way to go for no particular reason and is now trying trick people into helping him.
no subject
Right now though, Cole's in the cargo bay practicing with both the sword he got on the planet and the parrying dagger he bought alongside it. He's used to daggers, but swords were always something the Source used and used to good effect, which he would know, having been on the receiving end and nearly dying because of it. Swords were useful, so he figured he could try it, but all he has are what he can remember from the Source, so his movements are awkward and he doesn't really seem comfortable with it or using both weapons together.]

So when she wasn't helping pick vegetables or rake brush or load wagons, she could be found in her room, getting to know the supplies- such as they were- in the medbay- or in the ship's kitchen experimenting with the protein cubes, trying to make them a bit more palatable.]
no subject
...Any luck making them better?
no subject
I was never much of a cook to begin with... I don't know why I thought I'd do better with protein cubes. Figured I'd still try, though- instead of ruining the fresh food I've picked up on this planet.
no subject
Heh, cooking's mostly trying again and again until you start liking what you eat, anyway.
Least that's how I learned. Still, not a bad idea to do tests on the cubes first.
no subject
[She prodded at the cube of gelatin she'd been eating.]
I never thought I'd end up in a place where food comes in cubes, though.
