[Upon waking, Billy immediately reached for the bedside table as a matter of habit. There he encountered his glasses, his wrist communicator, and an unfamiliar computer-like device. Once the glasses were in place, it became apparent that his surroundings were unfamiliar. Worse, the most important of his personal effects, the silver buckle that granted him protection, was conspicuously absent. And wort of all, his personal communicator found no signal. His captors weren't precisely imitating Lord Zedd's style (he'd expect more fog and evil laughter, and possibly bruises), but the need for caution was abundantly clear.

Once he'd thoroughly rumpled the bedside area in a panic, calmed himself with a breathing exercise, and mostly brought himself up to speed on the strange computer sitting beside him, he activated it, putting considerable effort into sounding less frightened than he was.]

If I've been given this device, I have to assume there are many more...esteemed guests of our hosts. How are you enjoying your stay?

A student of what?

[ The circumstances are yet to be fully determined, but unfortunate does seem like a fair assessment. ]

It seems like that much isn't in our control, since we don't currently have access to any shuttles or docking ports.

But we probably haven't been brought here just to be trapped to such a limited area.

I'm still in high school, so...general education, but I'm planning to specialize in engineering when I graduate.

I still wonder at their motives.

Not torture, at least not readily apparent...so it's not as bad as it could be for now. Education or amusement, maybe?

[ The threat, as far as Signy is concerned, is being away from her ship, not from what they might do to her. ]

I would have preferred they observe us in our native environs.

I wonder how excessive the surveillance is. I'm assuming omnipresent.

But that would be a little less disorienting.

If they can take us, I presume they can observe us where we're from.

I have things to do back on Norway.

I'm sure many of us do. I'll work at resolving this too---I can't imagine the chaos in the places we were taken from.

For now, though, I think the focus is on making what we can of here. Impassioned arguments for return are unlikely to work.

Not until we know more about our captors' reasoning, goals, and needs, at least.

We can try again if we become better informed, but either way, it's all on research.

I'd rather find out what they care about and threaten that.
