[The feed comes on to show Yuan in the library, with a scattering of handwritten notes in front of him. He addresses the camera in a calm, businesslike tone:]

So there's something I've been wondering about for a while now, since I started meeting people here, and now seems as good a time as any to start a conversation on the subject: there seem to be a fair number of different kinds of elves in the Fleet. Where I come from, elven blood is the only source of magical abilities, at least for mortals. [He holds up a hand, palm upward, and a crackling ball of lightning appears hovering over it in demonstration. Once he's sure his point has been made, he lets it wink out and continues.]

If anyone's willing, I'd like to hear about the elves of your worlds and their relationship to magic, if there is one. And if you have magic that doesn't derive from elven blood, I'd be curious to hear about how you came by it.

So what's with this elf and magic thing? 'Cause we don't have elves on my version of Earth, but we still got spirits.

Where I come from, only elves and their descendants can sense mana - magical energy - in order to manipulate it into spells. Even working with the Summon Spirits requires at least a trace of elven blood - you don't need to be able to cast spells yourself, the spirits will do that on their own, but you have to be able to form a connection with them.

Why is it just the elves though? Did they create the world like Maglor's people did or something?

[Because Maglor and Kai are his own real "elf" friends.]

...Hah. More or less, I suppose. The world was there when they arrived, but it wasn't 'alive' yet - just a dead rock in space. They shaped it to their needs and settled on it. I wasn't aware any of the other elves here had the same story.

Yeah, I haven't heard all of their story, but I guess it's similar. I think they created everything though?

[He's still trying to figure out all the differences between all the characters Maglor talks about.]

He's the storyteller though. You could probably ask him.
