(no subject)

Who: IT'S A GAME MINGLE GET IN THE VAN
Broadcast: If you want!
Action: All of it!
When: Second half of the month.

[hey everyone! how's it been going? how's medieval-fun-time-world treating you? anyone pillaged and burned anything yet? got kicked out of the castle? been planning expeditions? registered for jousting? busy angsting for the last two weeks on your ship?

this is a mingle for everybody, whether they're hiding in the volcano, out and about in the city, or up on one of those random random stations where you can get quirky souvenirs.]

[Dorian scoffs slightly, amused, and he shakes his head.]

I don't suppose you have any teddy bears? I would settle for one right about now.

[He sifts through a bin, no, no skulls. Dorian only wants a free-rqange ethically obtained skull, anyway.]

Ah, must I resort to murder to get my own materials here?

[That earns him and EXTREME SIDE EYE from the shopkeep. Dorian glances over to him.]

Oh no, not you, you're perfectly fine. Charming tea cozies, by the by.

[And then he turns back to Hawke.]

So...Hawke, I presume? We never had much chance to talk. Dorian, of House Pavus, recently of Minrathos and before that Quarinus, the Pariah of Tevinter, and Follower of the Mortalitasi.

[Okay maybe he added a few in there, but it wasn't untrue.]

Tragically, no. I seem to have left mine in the other bizarre and unsettling kidnapping of recent experience.

[ He's actually taking it pretty well, considering the alternative is what it is. Which is to say My, What a Terrible Coping mechanism! Dorian can probably relate. Meanwhile Hawke huffs a laugh mostly through his nose at this interaction with the merchant. ]

You can relax, I can tell from here your skull isn't the right shape.

[ Uh the sideeye is now so intense they should ...maybe go to another booth. Walk and talk? ]

Hawke it is. And may I say that list of titles is exactly why I've chopped my name down to the least possible syllable. Do you have to write them all when you sign things?

And the last five generations of your lineage. The forms were so arduous that it was precisely the reason that I left. A man can only write his great-great-great-great grandfather's name so many times.

[Complete bullshit, but that's Dorian, the king of bullshitters.

He gave him a wry smile as they walk.]

Fortunate for you, I'm fond of allowing attractive men to simply call me Dorian.

[ Pls, Hawke will take the odds of bullshitting kings between Dorian and Varric. It probably depends on how much alcohol is involved. ]

And we've only just met! Imagining what you might allow me to call you tomorrow makes me all tingly inside.

[ ...this will be a disaster. ]

Only inside? I must be losing my touch.

[It's like an arms race but with innuendo.

He leans on his staff, almost leering over at him.]

Had I known you'd be such charming company, I would have sought you out at Skyhold.

You weren't missing much.

[ Haw, haw, he doesn't mean that. ]

I'm much less fun when trying to combat ancient magisters and wardens gone awry. Lucky for you I don't see any of those around here!

[He chuckles softly.]

Thankfully for all of us. I do think we're rather enjoying our little vacation. Of course, the South is so rustic and charming I might even miss it a bit.

[It certainly beats being motion sick in a space ship. And they wondered why he stayed in port every time they came to one.]

How did you tolerate Kirkwall, by the way? I couldn't quite see the appeal. Could have been the merchants spitting every time they called me Vint, though, there is that.

Kirkwall wasn't so bad.

[ He's mildly dismissive, but the real, actual fondness for that uh, shithole, reverberates through his voice, giving him a wistful - and therefore highly unusual - air. There's absolutely no denying Kirkwall is what it is, but it was home, for a while, in a way he hasn't known since. ]

Think of living there as a perpetual one night stand. Sure, you might wake up naked, bruised and wet in a country you've never visited, but you'll be satisfied all the same.

[ He suspects Dorian might consider that a fair trade-off. ]

Have you been spying on my little jaunt through the Free Marches?

[Dorian peers over at him, managing to look halfway scandalized.

Easier to say that than to admit how hard the road South was, not only on his body but also his soul. Dorian slept where he could, traded that mementos he had of Tevinter in exchange for safety from the streets for a night. The road was winding, traveling with caravans where they would take him, as there was safety in numbers.

All the while, trying to survive, he was suddenly lacking the father his heart desperately clung to, having to learn who Dorian was and how to stand on his own two feet.]

Wish I could say yes, I suspect I'd have enjoyed the view. Unfortunately we've had this pesky little conflict going for the last three years. You might've heard of it, if you had time for idle gossip on that jaunt of yours.

[ It's the uh, Mage-Templar war. In case that needed clarification. ]

Honestly, a man hardly has time for his third nap of the morning anymore.
