The implant taught me a little about human medicine, but... I don't have a lot of things that flesh races do. [ ... So he probably shouldn't be practicing what he learned. ]

But I can grow plants quickly! So... uh.. All...en? Allen! Thinks maybe I could grow medical plants. And I like growing things.

Are you at risk without these grow lights when we're off in space?

I won't.. wilt-wilt, turn brown or anything. But it makes me feel bad - and it's harder to put out clothes. We don't actually photosynthesis, but we feel better for having sunlight.

[ He pauses. ]

And it's less confusing, physically. I usually glow at night, so having a sunlight rather than just ship lights might make it behave.

Well, then I guess you'll be happy to know there are four glow lights in this box, one of which has a magnet on the back. So, y'know, you can put it on the ceiling over your bunk, or on the bottom of the bunk above yours if your beds are laid out that way.

[ ... He's been sleeping on the planet, but maybe he'll start sleeping on the ship. Probably in the med-bay, he doesn't know where the angry man sleeps- ]

How do I make them work? [ Teach him, little human! ]

[He goes into the box and takes out the lights, looking for a plug to put them into. The first one he finds, he uses. Then he sets the lamp down, and presses the button on the bottom. The row of bulbs light up, and he spreads his arms wide in presentation. Look at that!]

Asteffiel brightens and claps a little. Yaaay lights! And much better lights than the med-bays lights, he likes these already. ]

Just a button off and on? While plugged in? [ so that's what the things in the walls were for- ]

What do I do if I have them plugged in and the button doesn't do anything? Or if not all the lights come on?

That shouldn't happen, but if it does, call me. My name is Hiro, and I'm the Engineer on the Bishop. I shouldn't be too hard to find.

[He's simplifying the way he's saying things a little; Asteffiel seems to have some language disparities.]

But fortunately today is good enough that he remembers it. Sure does pull out a broadleaf of some sort from inside his random peasant clothing and starts fishing for the charcoal he put somewhere before remembering something even better.

[It doesn't have a stand like the rest of them. He just kind of goes over and puts it on the wall. The button is in a little different place, too.]

It sticks to metal, like the ship is made out of. It plugs in like the other ones...

[Which he demonstrates, and then turns on. But then he reaches up and unplugs the wire from the light itself.]

But it also can come unplugged. If it goes out while it's unplugged, plug it back in for a while.

So its sticky but not sticky to everything. [ totally going to press his face against the wall and see that its just.. stuck there! ]

And it... collects the power from the ship? And plugging it in refills it! Like getting luminescence from the fireflies for town lamps! They go out, you have to get more fireflies. [ ... sorta, right? ]

Yeah, pretty much!

Buttons turn them off and on, the sticking one can turn on without being plugged in. If anything happens to them, call... Hiro, on... the bishop!

[ It's the same conversation, Asteffiel shouldn't be so pleased he remembered the names properly. ]

Yeah, you got it! Can you think of anything else you need?

Fertilizer. I don't want to have to try to get new dirt on new planets [ That could provide a whole lot of other problems, like wrong kind of soil and bugs that the plants don't know how to deal with. ] but... using my old clothes would get a little smelly. And a smelly medical room isn't a good idea. ... but other fertilizers would be smellier right from the start. And I don't think I could just keep a lot of dirt on the ship?

[ ... Maybe he could. Hmmmmn. ]

... Is there a way to make a not-so-smelly lid? Or box?

A compost bin?

[He rubs his chin a little, thinking on it.]

That might take a little bit, I'm missing some of the stuff I need... But I can do it.

If you are missing something plant-like, I can probably grow it for you. [ Don't think too hard on what kind of grow he means. ]

... Maybe not wood though. But I know how to use an axe to get wood!

Nah, it's not that. Composting usually takes months or even a couple of years... But I think, if we wait until we get off this planet, I might be able to find something to speed that process up. It'll be useful for you and Hange both, since she needs fertilizers for the crops she's growing.

I know chopping up leaves and keeping them damp helps. For faster leaf-compost. I haven't been doing either because... Rotting leaf smell. But they're mostly big leaves, so they keep themselves heavy...

[ ... He's debating asking about this Hange lady because plants. ]

I could make a compost bin spliced with a humidifier... Pressurize it...

[He's kind of muttering this shit, but it's important. You've got the gears turning.]

[ .... He's not able to follow that, really. Humidifier? What? Pressurize makes a little sense, has something to do with squishing? ]

If its dark, I could put it in range of one of the sun lamps and it will heat up for better composting that way? I think that's part of why you turn the compost, so the dark is on top and it heats it better?

Yeah, it is.
