Then I'm glad you've found each other. [she looks down at Whitefluff, and lowers her voice as if she's sharing a secret with her]

Take good care of him, alright Captain? He's a nice man.

Hey, now. Don't you two start conspiring together, the rest of us don't stand a chance.

[Too adorable. He's only mock-offended; his tone is warm despite it.]

So long as she keeps taking care of any spiders that come our way, I think I'll be just fine.

Ah, can cats really chase of spiders? [she mindlessly pets Whitefluff as she looks up at Anders, curious]

I've only heard of cats chasing away mice?

She can chase anything she likes. And does, most of the time, she's tiny but quick.

The spiders we've seen so far have been small, at least. She'll grow into a proper mouser with practice. [He leans forward, utterly unashamed about the way his voice starts to lilt.] Won't you? Yes you will.

I see, so it's like practice. [laksdhg ANDERS YOU ARE TOO CUTE, STOP IT. Tries to stifle it but there's a slight giggle at his cutsey wootsty voice]

I'm sorry to be so selfish and hog all this time with her. Would you like to hold her again?

No, no. Don't mind me. [He holds his hands up, now very aware that he's trying to steal back quality time with his own cat.] She'll have plenty of time to deal with me later. I offered, you hold her as long as you like.

You might regret that offer. [she jokes slightly, but smiles fondly at the kitten]

I've never had any pets, but I've always through they were very cute. [she looks back at Anders] Have you had other cats before?

Yes, actually, before they brought me here. Rude not to let him come along, I thought, but rules are rules, I suppose.

Ser Pounce-a-lot is a bit bigger than this one. Every bit as feisty, though, I'll bet she could take him if she tried.

You have quite a gift with names. [she's only half joking, the names are quite adorable]

And that is very rude. I wonder if there is a way that we can file a formal complaint...? [she looks up, thinking diligently. She is a coms officer after all, it strikes her she might be able to do... something like that?] I'll look into it.

[He laughs, like she's made a joke. A short pause, and then:]

Wait, really? Is that something you could actually do?

[He loves this new kitten, but he misses his cat something fierce.]

I don't know for sure. [hm, she paues. maybe she should have tried this in private first before saying it out loud]

But I'd like to try. I'm tired of-- [she pauses] Or, I suppose I should say, I'd like to see if we can have more agency here. And I'll never know unless I try with everything I have.

[I'm tired of is a perspective that he's very, very familiar with. He's hardly surprised that she seems to be the bright-eyed, you-can-do-it-if-you-try type.]

Well. If it does end up working, then Ser Pounce-a-lot will be plenty in your debt. You could have all the visits you like.

[He doesn't think the chances are very good. In his experience, negotiation carries no weight whatsoever when one party is dictating the life and livelihood of the other. But there's no real point in arguing it, so he doesn't.]
